Corbeau direct-fit sub-frames for the BMW E46 3-Series. Part code BMWE46.

The E46 ran from 1998 to 2006 across saloon, coupe, touring and convertible body styles. It is one of the most common cars on UK track days, partly because values make it accessible and partly because the chassis rewards driver input rather than correcting it electronically. Fitting a bucket seat is one of the first changes a track day E46 owner makes: the standard seat holds the driver adequately on the road but offers very little lateral support under cornering load. The E46 M3 in particular attracted serious owners from early on, and the seat is often the first upgrade after tyres.

These sub-frames bolt to the original E46 floor mounting points without cutting or drilling. The frame is built around Corbeau’s own bolt pattern, so it fits Corbeau seats directly and does not work with other brands. Standard seat runners come out, the sub-frame goes in their place, and the Corbeau seat drops onto the frame. Both driver and passenger positions are covered. The car can be returned to standard using the original floor fixings.

What will be in the box? There are several types of seat frames which may be supplied depending on the vehicle and application. You may receive 1 of the following 4 types. If you are using them with a certain seat, please contact us in advance for professional advice.

#1. A full replacement frame with a sliding runner and resisitor kit
#2. A full replacement frame with a sliding runner
#3. A full replacement frame only
#4. An adaption bracket kit

Additional seat belt brackets: Each seat frame can be used for a variety of applications including road car reclining seats throuh to Motorsport FIA seats. Seat belt brackets are not required in a range of application so manufacturers generally do not supply them with their frame kits. If you require seat belt brackets please contact us in advance

Bolt point tolerances:

Please note that OMP, Sparco and various other brands have a +/- 10mm tolerance on the bolt point locations on each of their sub-frames. This means that when installing the equipment into your vehicle, you may find that one or more of the bolt points may need extending for a perfect fit.

This is normal and, when installed by a skilled professional, it may only add five minutes to the total installation time. A prime example is the OMP Renault Clio MK3 frames and the BMW E46 frames as two bolt points need extending by 5mm in 75% of installations.

Drilling of frames and equipment may be required to complete your installation.

Matching seats and frames:

There are over half a dozen different bolt patterns in the industry for base mounted seats. There are over 30 different bolt patterns for side mounted seats. Aftermarket frames from different brands will have different bolt location points. 

Seats and frames are not a direct fit between brands. Seat frames are also not suitabled for OEM seats (Fitted into a vehicle from the factory) Please ensure to contact us for professional advice before purchasing your seat frames. We will be able to provide you a recommendation as to which seat frame is right for which seat.

Do I keep fore-and-aft adjustment?
Only with a sliding runner between the frame and the seat, which is a separate part on Corbeau frames. If more than one person drives the car, budget for the runner. Our guide to sliding runners explains the options and widths.

Corbeau seats are handcrafted here in the UK

FIA bucket seats are built to order, typically 3 to 7 days from the day you order. Kevlar and carbon shells take longer, so ask us if you are working to a date.

Reclining sport seats are also made to order in your chosen trim, and run to a similar timescale.
