The Honda S2000 moved to the AP2 specification in 2003 with a 2.2-litre F22C replacing the 2.0-litre F20C of the AP1. Power stayed at 242bhp but the power band broadened, the rev limit dropped from 9000rpm to 8200rpm, and Honda adjusted the suspension and steering. The AP2 ran until 2009. Many drivers prefer the AP2’s more linear power delivery; others prefer the AP1’s sharpness. Either way, the floor mounting point layout is very close between the two generations.

The S2000’s narrow cockpit means that seat choice matters more than on many cars. Going wider than about 38cm external shell width starts to interfere with the door cards and the side sill on the AP2. A fixed-back bucket in the 34 to 36-inch waist range is the typical choice for track use.
