Mount the exact model, not the material name
A trim option normally keeps the shell, but verify the listing.
Check base or side mounting, shell dimensions and the current drawing. If the car is tight, compare the outside envelope rather than assuming the vinyl and cloth listings are identical.

Is vinyl waterproof?▾
Vinyl does not absorb water like cloth, but the complete seat is not necessarily waterproof. Water can enter through seams, harness openings, fixings and damaged areas. Dry the seat and the car after exposure.
Is vinyl hotter than cloth?▾
Usually. It breathes less and can feel warmer or stickier during a long session. Ventilation, seat shape, clothing and cabin temperature all affect the result.
Can I use household cleaner on a vinyl seat?▾
Use the care instructions for the exact seat. Start with a soft damp cloth. Avoid solvents, abrasive pads and unapproved dressings, which can mark the finish or make the bolsters slippery.
Does vinyl change the seat mountings?▾
Not when it is only a trim option on the same seat model. A similarly named vinyl seat can still be a different product or revision, so check its current drawing and mounting description.
Can a vinyl seat be FIA homologated?▾
Yes. The exact model must carry the FIA label required by the event. Trim material by itself neither grants nor removes competition approval.
Is vinyl best for an open-top car?▾
It is easier to wipe after rain, but the seat should still be covered and dried. Sun, standing water and repeated wet storage shorten trim life.
Can damaged vinyl be repaired?▾
Small trim damage may be repairable by a specialist. Stop using the seat if damage exposes or affects the shell, frame, belt openings or mountings, and ask the manufacturer or supplier to inspect it.
