Mazda MX-5 Mk3 NC Fitted With Mirco GT 3D Bucket Seats
Customer car, June 2024
A customer has sent us photos of their Mazda MX-5 Mk3, the NC, and the interior has had the full treatment. A pair of Mirco GT 3D bucket seats, TRS Magnum 4 point harnesses in red, and a PCI Racing fitting kit to put the seats into the car.
It looks great with the roof down, and it is a combination that works well in the NC. Here is what went in, and how it goes together.
- A customer's Mazda MX-5 Mk3 NC with two Mirco GT 3D bucket seats
- The Mirco GT is fibreglass, side mount and FIA 8855-1999
- TRS Magnum 4 point harnesses in red, FIA 8854-1998, 3 inch webbing
- Seats fitted on a PCI Racing MX-5 Mk3 kit using the factory mounting points
- A harness bar or rear cage is the right way to mount the shoulder straps

What is on this page
The customer's NC
The car is a grey MX-5 NC with a tan interior. The factory seats have gone and a pair of black Mirco GT 3D buckets with red stitching have taken their place, with the red harnesses picking up the stitching. Behind the seats, the shoulder straps go back to a bar across the car, and the lap belts are anchored low beside the seats.
In a small car like the MX-5, the fitting kit matters as much as the seat. The NC’s cabin is snug and the roof is close, so a low mount is what makes a bucket seat work, especially with a helmet on.
The Mirco GT 3D seats
The GT is Mirco’s entry level FIA bucket: a fibreglass fixed back shell, approved to FIA 8855-1999, open at the shoulders, which makes it easy to get in and out of. The 3D version is trimmed in Mirco’s 3D SpaceTech mesh, the coolest running of their trims, which suits a car used on the road in summer.
It takes a 4 or 6 point harness and it is HANS friendly. Our listing gives it for a 32 to 36 inch waist and drivers under 6ft, so Garreth’s advice for anyone close to that height is to sit in one first. Mirco offer the shell and stitching in a range of colours; this customer went for red stitching to go with the harnesses.

The TRS Magnum 4 point harnesses
The TRS Magnum 4 point is approved to FIA 8854-1998, with 3 inch (75 mm) webbing on the shoulder and lap straps and an aircraft style rotary buckle that releases with a quarter turn. It is HANS friendly, and the shoulder straps can clip in or wrap around a bar. TRS make them in a range of colours, and red is the one most people ask for.
If your championship asks for FIA 8853-2016, the 6 point Magnum is the harness to look at.
How it all fits
The PCI Racing kit is our first choice for the NC. It bolts to the factory seat mounting points, so nothing is drilled and the original seats can go back in. PCI make two versions for the Mk3: a sliding sub frame, and an adjustable mount that sits lower but has no slider. Both are complete kits for a side mount bucket.
The job itself is straightforward. Unbolt and remove the factory seats, fit the PCI kit to the original mounting points, then bolt the seats to the kit with the hardware supplied.

The harness is the part to think about first. The shoulder straps need a mounting point behind and slightly below your shoulders, and in a convertible that means a harness bar or a rear roll cage. Without one, the car will need modifying to mount the harness properly, so plan it in from the start.
Which seats are in this MX-5 NC?
A pair of Mirco GT 3D bucket seats, fibreglass and FIA 8855-1999 approved.
What harness does the customer's car use?
TRS Magnum 4 point harnesses in red, approved to FIA 8854-1998.
What fitting kit suits bucket seats in an MX-5 NC?
We recommend the PCI Racing MX-5 Mk3 kit, which bolts to the factory seat mounting points.
Do I need a harness bar in an MX-5 NC?
Yes, or a rear roll cage. Without one, the car needs modifying to mount a harness properly.
