Ford Anglia Restoration With Corbeau Classic Seats

Customer cars, February 2025

One of our customers is in the middle of a full restoration of a Ford Anglia, and has sent us photographs of the progress. For the seats they chose a pair of Corbeau Classic retro bucket seats, to suit the car's period look while giving more support than the original seats.

Here is a look at the project so far, why the Corbeau Classic suits a car like this, and the options the seat comes with.

  • Customer project: a full restoration of a Ford Anglia
  • Seats: a pair of Corbeau Classic retro bucket seats, fitted with headrests
  • The Classic is a steel frame seat in vinyl or leather, not FIA approved
  • Black, red or white piping, with or without a headrest, in standard or wider Excel width
  • Base mounted, and slotted for a four point harness

The Anglia project

This is a proper ground-up job. The customer’s photographs show the Anglia shell back from paint in dark grey, with the engine bay empty and an orange roll cage already in the cabin. The seats went in as the interior started to come back together.

The Anglia is a car people have strong feelings about, and restorations tend to split between keeping everything original and building something a little sportier while keeping the look. This one is heading the second way, and the seats are a big part of that.

With the shell painted and the cage in, the car was ready for its interior.

Choosing seats at this stage makes sense, because it is the easiest time to plan the mounting, the seat height and how the seats sit alongside the cage.

Why the Corbeau Classic

The Classic is the simplest fixed back seat in Corbeau’s retro range, built on a steel frame and trimmed in vinyl or leather. It was designed for the classic and kit car market, and it has a shape that looks at home in a car from the 1960s or 1970s.

What it adds is support. Many original seats from that era are flat, and a bucket seat holds you in place through bends in a way they never did. The customer wanted that improvement for longer drives without losing the period feel of the cabin.

It is a road seat, not FIA approved, so it is not the seat for competition that asks for an approved seat. For a road going classic, show car or the odd track day, it is a popular choice.

In the car, the black seats with their headrests sit neatly inside the orange cage, and they look right in an Anglia.

The headrest is one of the options on the Classic, and on a car with a cage, it is worth thinking about how it lines up with the bars behind it.

The options on the Corbeau Classic

  • Trim: vinyl or leather.
  • Piping: black, red or white around the edge, to match an existing interior.
  • Headrest: with or without.
  • Width: standard, or the wider Excel width for bigger drivers.

The Classic is base mounted and slotted for a four point harness. It is sold as the seat only, so you also need brackets or a frame for your car. Corbeau seats use their own mounting patterns and do not mix with Recaro parts, so tell us the car and we will check what you need.

If you want a little more detail, the Corbeau GT4 Retro and the Alpine are in the same family, and Corbeau also make the Classic in tartan trims.

Seating a classic

Garreth’s advice for any classic is to measure before you buy. Older cars can be tight between the tunnel and the sill, and the seat height matters for headroom and for seeing over the dash. Send us the car, your height and waist and a couple of measurements, and we will help you pick the right seat and width.

We are looking forward to seeing the finished Anglia.

No. It is a road seat, suited to road going classics, show cars and the odd track day.

Vinyl or leather, with black, red or white piping, and in tartan trims too.

The headrest is an option. You can order the seat with or without one.

It is a base mount seat, sold without brackets, so you need brackets or a frame for your car.
