Customer Question: What Are the Top 3 Reclining Sport Seats for My Citroen Saxo?
Customer question, Citroen Saxo
A new set of seats is one of the most noticeable changes you can make to a Citroen Saxo. The car is light and quick to respond, and a supportive recliner makes it feel more connected without spoiling it as an everyday car. The question we get is which recliners actually suit it.
The Saxo's cabin is tight. The standard seat sits high, the centre console is close to the seat base, and there is not much room between the door card and the inner trim. Our three suggestions are the Sparco R500, the Sparco R100 and the Corbeau SVR, all of which go onto the Sparco Saxo sub-frame. This guide explains why, and what else you need.
- Our three: Sparco R500, Sparco R100 and Corbeau SVR
- All three base mount on the 345mm by 271mm pattern
- Sparco make a direct fit Saxo sub-frame that bolts to the factory floor points
- Frames are sold singly and are handed, driver and passenger
- Add Sparco sliding runners if you want fore and aft adjustment
- Bulkier recliners such as the Sparco R333 are not a good match for the Saxo

What is on this page
The space you have in a Saxo
The Saxo has limited shoulder room and not much clearance around the centre tunnel. Larger, heavily bolstered recliners, such as the Sparco R333 or the Auto Style Type RS6-II, suit cars with wider cabins, but in a Saxo they tend to press on the door card or crowd the centre console, which gets in the way of the recline and the slide and makes the driving position awkward.
So the seats we suggest are the slimmer ones. Each of the three below has a narrower profile that lets it slide and recline without touching the trim, and none needs any interior panel altered.
Sparco R500
The R500 sits between motorsport looks and everyday comfort. It is built on a steel frame, has no head support wings, which helps in a car with a low roofline, and gives proper side support through corners. It works with the standard seat belt, and it has slots for a 4 point harness if that is part of the plan.
- Steel frame, base mount on 345mm by 271mm
- Reclining backrest
- Works with the standard belt or a 4 point harness
- Cloth, or the vinyl R500 Sky
- Listed for a 32 to 38 inch waist, all heights
The wider waist range is the R500’s strength. If you are between 36 and 38 inches and have found other Sparco recliners listed only to 36, it is the one to try first.
Sparco R100
The R100 is one of the most widely fitted recliners there is, and it suits a Saxo because it is deliberately narrower and lower bolstered than many alternatives, so it clears the sill and centre console where taller bolsters would not. It has a tubular steel frame, a single lever recline and enough support to hold you without making it hard to get in and out.
- Tubular steel frame, around 13kg, base mount on 345mm by 271mm
- Harness slots for a 4 point belt, and it works with the standard seat belt
- Cloth in several colourways, vinyl, Martini Racing and diamond stitched editions
- Listed as suitable for all waist sizes and heights
Corbeau SVR
The SVR is the most sculpted of Corbeau's Sportline recliners through the sides. It reclines, tilts for rear access, and holds you better than a factory seat without the commitment of a fixed bucket.
It is trimmed in hard wearing black vinyl, with heated and tartan versions available. It has 4 point harness compatibility, and it is listed for a 32 to 38 inch waist and all heights. It base mounts, with both the 345mm by 271mm and 291mm by 330mm patterns listed, so it sits on the same Sparco Saxo frame as the other two.

Fitting them to a Saxo
Sparco make a direct fit sub-frame for the Saxo. It bolts to the car’s original floor points with no drilling or fabrication, and presents the 345mm by 271mm base mount pattern on top, which is what all three seats use. The frames are sold singly and the driver and passenger sides are different shapes, so choose the side and order two for a pair.
Bolted straight to the frame the seat is fixed. If you want to slide it, fit Sparco’s sliding runner kit between the frame and the seat. It is steel, on the same 345mm by 271mm pattern, sold singly or as a pair, and it is for road use and track days.
- Remove the original seat and keep the bolts. Lift the carpet and check the floor around the mounting points.
- Bolt the Sparco frame to the factory mounting points.
- Fit the runner to the frame if you are using one, then the seat.
- Refit the seat belt buckle and check it with someone in the seat.
- Set the position, then tighten everything to the correct torque.
Other seats on the same frame
Because the Sparco frame uses the common 345mm by 271mm pattern, it also takes other base mount seats from Sparco, OMP and Corbeau, including some fixed back buckets. Recaro seats are the exception: they use a different 405mm spacing, so they are not a match for this frame. A Recaro goes straight on a Planted Technology bracket, and an OMP base frame can take one with a little modification and drilling.
Side mount competition buckets need side mounts or adaption bars and a different set up entirely. If you are thinking of going that way, tell us the seat and we will work out the parts. For a different look, one of our customers fitted Auto Style Type Retro recliners to a Saxo.
Choosing between the three
If you want the widest waist range and a sportier shape, the R500. If you want the slimmest, most straightforward seat and the most trim choices, the R100. If you want vinyl, a more sculpted side and the option of heating or tartan, the SVR.
Garreth’s advice is to send us your height and waist and how you use the car. We will tell you which of the three suits you, and put the seats, Saxo frames and runners together as one order.
What reclining seats fit a Citroen Saxo?
We suggest slim recliners: the Sparco R500, Sparco R100 and Corbeau SVR, fitted on the Sparco Saxo sub-frame.
Do I need to drill the Saxo floor?
No. The Sparco Saxo sub-frame bolts to the car’s original floor mounting points.
Will a Sparco R333 fit a Saxo?
We do not suggest it. Larger recliners like the R333 tend to press on the door card or crowd the centre console in a Saxo.
Can I fit Recaro seats on the Sparco Saxo frame?
No. Recaro seats use a 405mm spacing; they go straight on a Planted Technology bracket, and an OMP base frame can take one with a little modification and drilling.
Do I need runners?
Only if you want to slide the seat. Without runners the seat is fixed on the frame.
