Corbeau RRS Low Base Seats Fitted Into Our Customer's Land Rover Defender
Customer cars, October 2025
One of our customers has just given their Land Rover Defender a new interior with a pair of Corbeau RRS reclining sports seats, and the result looks great. It shows how well a good sports seat can suit a Defender without taking away any of its tough character. The RRS sits naturally in the upright driving position and square cab, and adds a more modern, supportive feel.
This setup uses the low base version of the RRS, which sits you lower than the standard base. In a Defender, with its high floor and limited headroom for a tall driver, that extra room over your head makes a real difference.
- A pair of Corbeau RRS low base seats in black, fitted to a Land Rover Defender
- The low base sits you lower than the standard base, for more headroom
- Reclining, steel framed, with an integrated headrest
- Listed as 4 point harness compatible and Road and Track approved
- Base mount, 291mm x 330mm or 345mm x 271mm pattern
- Corbeau make direct fit Defender frames

The Defender and its new seats
Our customer went for a pair of black Corbeau RRS seats on the low base, one for the driver and one for the passenger. Between them sits the Defender’s cubby box, and there is room either side of each seat, so nothing rubs against the doors or the console.
For anyone who uses a Defender on the road and off it, this kind of setup suits both. The seats are comfortable for a long run on the motorway, and they hold you in place when the ground gets uneven. It is a good example of how the RRS can bring a Defender’s interior up to date while keeping its go anywhere feel.
Why the Corbeau RRS suits a Defender
The RRS is one of Corbeau's most popular reclining seats, and it suits vehicles like the Defender well. Its shaped shoulders, side bolsters and harness slots give a secure driving position, which helps when you are cornering on the road or crossing rough ground, and it stays comfortable for long spells behind the wheel.
The reclining backrest lets you fine tune the angle, upright for off-road sections or a little further back for a long motorway run. Inside is a steel frame, and the seat is listed as 4 point harness compatible and Road and Track approved.

The RRS comes in cloth, leather or vinyl, each with its own strengths. Vinyl is the sensible choice for a Defender that gets wet and muddy, because it wipes clean. Cloth breathes and is the most comfortable over a long drive, and leather suits an interior being done properly.
There are options too: black or white stitching, and a fitted seat heater with lumbar support, or heating and an inflatable lumbar separately. Heating needs its own loom and a switch, so plan that into the fitting.
Seat dimensions
The RRS has an open, roomy shape that suits a wide range of drivers, and it is sized for a 32 to 36 or 36 to 38 inch waist. The external measurements are the ones that decide whether it fits the car.
| Corbeau RRS | Measurement |
|---|---|
| Base width | 490mm |
| Inner base width | 370mm |
| Shoulder width | 550mm |
| Seat height | 930mm |
| Seat depth | 590mm |
| Harness hole height | 260mm |
| Bolster height | 280mm |
In this Defender there is clearance between the seats and the doors, and between the seats and the cubby box, so they sit cleanly without rubbing, even when reclined. If you are not sure about your own fit, Garreth’s advice is to send us your height and waist, and we will talk you through which RRS suits you.
Why choose the low base
The low base version of the RRS sits you lower than the standard base. It is aimed at tall drivers, helmet wearers and vehicles with a low roof, and a Defender, with its high floor and upright cab, is one of the places it makes the most sense. Sitting lower gives more headroom, which a tall driver notices straight away.
If you are not tall and do not need the extra headroom, the standard base is the easier seat to get in and out of, so it is worth thinking about how you use the car before you choose. Either way, sitting in both is the quickest way to decide.

Installation and frames
The RRS is base mounted, bolting to a vehicle frame through sliding runners. Corbeau list it with two bolt patterns, 291mm x 330mm and 345mm x 271mm, so it can suit frames drilled for either.
For the Defender, Corbeau make direct fit frames that pick up the factory mounting points, so the installation needs no modification. The mounting stack depends on the seat pattern, so tell us the seat and the Defender, including the model and year, and we will confirm the complete kit. There is also an RRS low base Defender seat supplied with sliders, which arrives as a seat that bolts up.
For a different vehicle, look for a direct fit frame, or a fabricated one, drilled for one of the RRS’s two patterns, and use Corbeau runners with Corbeau seats. Our guide to seat bolt patterns explained covers how the patterns match up. If you are unsure, send us your vehicle details and we will work out the right setup.
