Cobra Monaco 40th Edition Bucket Seats With Yellow Stitching
Customer order, October 2025
We have just had a pair of Cobra Monaco 40th Edition bucket seats through the showroom on their way to a customer. They are black vinyl with yellow stitching, and they made an impression on everyone who saw them. The yellow runs along the bolsters, down the base and around the back, and the embroidered Cobra logo at the top of the backrest is yellow to match.
The vinyl and the eyelets running down the centre panels give the seats a proper retro motorsport look, which suits classic and period builds. They were only with us for a short time: after a quality check they went out to the customer.
- A pair of Monaco 40th Edition seats in black vinyl with yellow stitching
- Yellow embroidered Cobra logo on each backrest

The pair that passed through
Special order seats do not usually stay long, but this pair was worth stopping to look at. The yellow stitching gives a sharp contrast against the black vinyl, and because it runs through the bolsters, the base and the back, the whole seat looks finished from every angle.
The detail extends beyond the stitching. The eyelet perforations in the centre panels are a nod to classic motorsport interiors, which is why the 40th Edition works so well in retro cars. For a restoration, a period build, or simply an interior with more personality, it is those small touches that make the difference.
Seeing them in person showed how different the 40th Edition looks next to a standard Monaco. We checked them over and sent them out to the customer.
About the Cobra Monaco 40th Edition
Cobra built the 40th Edition to mark forty years, and what it changes is the trim, not the engineering. The shell, the steel construction and the FIA approval are the Monaco you would get anyway, homologated to FIA 8855-1999.
The shell is fully steel plated with a solid back and base, and has an integral head pad and shoulder support. There are slots for a 4 or 6 point harness. The seat can be base mounted or side mounted, so you are not tied to either when you order.
What you choose is the finish: vinyl with a choice of stitching colours, so the seat can be matched to the car. Yellow is one of them, alongside black, white, red, blue and green on our listing.

Key features:
- The Monaco shell with 40th Edition styling
- Steel plated construction with a solid back and base
- Homologated to FIA 8855-1999
- Vinyl trim with a choice of stitching colours
- Eyelet details in the centre panels
- Base or side mounting
- Slots for 4 or 6 point harnesses
What makes the 40th Edition special
The Monaco range has long been a strong, sensible choice. The 40th Edition keeps all of that and adds the styling: stitching through the bolsters, base and headrest, and a matching embroidered logo. That is what sets it apart from the standard Monaco.
It captures the look of a retro motorsport interior while staying a modern, practical seat. That makes it a good choice for retro builds, restorations, or anyone who wants an interior with character. On a build where the interior is being done properly, a seat matched to the car is worth having.
Seat dimensions
The Monaco 40th Edition is a slim seat, which lets it fit a wide range of cars. It is sized for drivers under 6ft with a 32 to 36 inch waist, and narrower and wider versions of the same shell exist if you are outside that.
| Cobra Monaco 40th Edition | Measurement |
|---|---|
| Shoulder width | 550mm |
| External base width | 510mm |
| Internal base width | 360mm |
| Backrest height | 870mm |
| Base length | 660mm |
| Weight | 11.4kg |
Those proportions work in cars with tighter cabins while still leaving enough room for most drivers. The weight is the honest cost of the steel plating. If you are not sure of your fit, Garreth’s advice is to send us your height and waist measurements, or come and sit in a Monaco in the showroom.
Installation
Every Monaco can be base mounted or side mounted, which gives you flexibility when you plan the fitting. The seat is supplied on its own, so frames and mounts are chosen to suit the car.
For base mounting, the Monaco uses a 291mm bolt pattern. It fits directly to frames and sliding runners made for that pattern. Many vehicle specific frames are drilled for the wider 345mm pattern instead, and those will not line up with the Monaco’s base directly. In that case there are two routes:
- Side mount the seat, using side mounts that bolt onto the frame
- Use adaptor plates when base mounting, to bridge the Monaco’s narrower pattern and the wider frame
Tell us the car and we will match the frame and mounts to the seat. Our guide to seat bolt patterns explained covers how the common patterns and frames pair up.

The Cobra Monaco range
The Monaco is a wide range, with options for daily drivers and motorsport builds. There are different trim materials, including 3D spacer fabric, velour and vinyl, depending on whether you want grip, breathability or a particular look.
There are FIA approved Monaco seats for competition and non FIA versions for track days and road use, and the shell comes in standard and narrow widths. Alongside the 40th Edition there are other special editions, such as Tartan and Houndstooth, each adding its own style to the Monaco shell. Our look at Cobra special editions and the cars they suit goes through more of them.
