What Is The Best Setup To Fit A Sparco Evo L Into A Mitsubishi Evo X?

Customer question, Sparco Evo L in a Mitsubishi Evo X

A customer emailed us this week asking what the best setup is to fit a Sparco Evo L into his Mitsubishi Evo 10. It is one of the easiest questions we get, because the parts were made for each other. The seat is the Sparco Evo L QRT and the frame is the M2 Motorsport direct fit frame for the Evo X.

Here is the whole setup, with the prices.

  • The seat is the Sparco Evo L QRT, £612.00 inc VAT, a fibreglass shell approved to FIA 8855-1999
  • The frame is the M2 Motorsport direct fit frame for the Evo X, £166.20 inc VAT per side
  • The M2 frame comes with its own side mounts, so the Evo L bolts straight to it
  • It bolts to the factory floor mounting points, with no drilling on a standard floor
  • One seat is £778.20 inc VAT and a pair of seats is £1,490.40 inc VAT
  • The frame is right hand drive, so pick driver side or passenger side

The setup, from the floor up

It is a simple stack. The M2 frame replaces the factory seat runners and bolts to the original floor mounting points. The Evo L then bolts onto the side mounts that come on the frame.

The Evo X is the CZ4A chassis, built from 2007 to 2016, which is a different platform to the Evo 7, 8 and 9 with its own M2 part number, and the listing is a right hand drive part for the Evo X only.

That is why it is an all-in-one solution. Every bucket seat needs side mounts, and the M2 frame comes with the side mounts it needs, so the Evo L bolts straight on. The frame has 290mm side mount holes, and Sparco is one of the brands the listing says fit directly.

Why the Evo L

The Evo L is the wide shell version of the Sparco Evo. It is a fibreglass shell with velour trim, approved to FIA 8855-1999, HANS friendly, and compatible with 4 and 6 point harnesses. The extra width across the shoulders and hips gives broader drivers the room the standard Evo does not, and it weighs 7.8kg.

Garreth: I would pick the Evo L even if the standard Evo fits you, because a shell that holds you tightly can get in the way when you are feeding small steering inputs through your shoulders.

Cameron: I would still try both shells first if you are slimmer. The standard Evo holds you a little tighter. Twenty minutes in the showroom is time well spent.

Garreth: That works for me, as long as anybody carrying weight in the shoulders goes for the L.

Cameron: Agreed. Sparco list the Evo L for up to a 36 inch waist, so measure yours before you order.

Garreth: And bring your harness plans with you, because the seat height decides where the straps run.

Cameron: Tell us the car and your build, and we will say which shell to try first.

What it costs

This is the setup we quoted, with every price including VAT.

Part, all inc VATFor one seatFor a pair of seats
Sparco Evo L QRT FIA bucket seat£612.00£1,158.00 (the 2 seats listing)
M2 Motorsport Evo X direct fit frame, side mount version, side mounts included. Choose driver or passenger side.£166.20£332.40 (the 2 frames listing)
Seat and frame together£778.20£1,490.40

If you want to slide the seat back and forth, PCI make a sliding sub frame for the Evo 10 at £330.00 and we will confirm it with the Evo L before you order, although for most people the M2 frame is the simple answer.

How the fitting goes

The M2 frame bolts to the factory seat mounting points. You do not need to drill a standard floor. Start every bolt by hand, sit in the car, then torque it all down.

Check your seat belt buckle before you drive, because a bucket seat often puts the buckle somewhere new, and recheck the bolts after your first run.

Our bucket seat mounting guide explains base mount against side mount, and our guide to M2 Motorsport frames shows how the frames go together.

One seat or a pair

If both seats are going in, buy the pair listing. It is £1,158.00 against £1,224.00 for two single seats, so it saves £66.00. The two frames cost the same either way.

The frames are handed, so you can fit one seat now and add the second later. Drop us an email or click to open a chat if you want it checked against your car.

Questions about an Evo L in an Evo X
