Every Corbeau Tartan Classic Seat, With The Dimensions And Which Car Each One Suits

Corbeau Tartan Edition, the classic shells

Four shells, the cheapest way into the blue tartan, and the ones most likely to end up in something with chrome bumpers. They are also the range where the numbers matter most, because a period cabin has a low door line and nothing to hide a tall seat behind.

Cameron sells more of these than the rest of the Tartan range put together. Garreth reads the height column first every time, because three of the four finish below your shoulders and the fourth does not.

  • Four shells, from £588.00 to £690.00 inc VAT each
  • Three are low backed at 64cm and 70cm. The GT8 is 93cm and a different thing entirely
  • Only the GT4 Retro has no head pad. The Classic and the Alpine carry one on a post
  • The Classic and the Alpine come in a Standard and a Wide. The other two do not
  • All base mount, all fixed back, all road and track
  • The GT4 Retro is the lowest seat we sell in this range at 64cm
  • Sold singly, unlike the reclining Tartan range where everything is a pair
  • Eight tartans to choose from, not one. The blue in the photographs is Weir Ancient

The low backed shells in the car they were drawn for. A short backrest and a small head pad on a post, which is what keeps a period cabin looking like a period cabin.

Start with the height, because three of four are low

In a seventies cabin the seat is the tallest thing in the car and there is nothing to disguise it. Get it wrong and the car looks like it is wearing somebody else’s furniture, quite apart from what it does to your rear vision.

The GT4 Retro is 64cm with nothing above the backrest at all. The Classic and the Alpine are 70cm, and that figure includes the small head pad each of them carries on a post. The GT8 is 93cm with a proper head restraint built into the back, which is nearly thirty centimetres more seat, and in the right car that is exactly what you want and in the wrong one it is a wall behind your head.

Overall height, Corbeau C

The GT8 is the outlier and the reason this page leads on height. Three low backed shells and one high backed one, in a range where they sit next to each other in the listing and look like variations on a theme.

Reading a Corbeau dimension drawing

Corbeau letter every dimension drawing A to G and never print a key. Same letters as the motorsport guide and the recliners.

What Corbeau mean by A to G

From the front

CDFGE

From the side

CAB

The seven letters

  • A Overall depth, front to back
  • B Base length on the floor
  • C Overall height
  • D Head aperture, between the wings
  • E Cushion width
  • F Shoulder width at the widest point
  • G Hip width

Corbeau letter their dimension drawings A to G and never print a key, so this is ours, drawn on a real elevation of a competition shell and not on a sketch. The seat is a generic bucket used to show what the letters mean, not any one model. The two that grow on an XL are E and G, the cushion and the hips, which is why the size choice is a waist measurement and not a height one.

Standard shells. Prices are per seat and include VAT, correct on 22 September 2026. The Corbeau drawing for the Classic carries an eighth measurement, H, which the other three do not have, so it is left off this table and covered below.

Standard or Wide, and who gets the choice

This range does not use XL. The Classic and the Alpine come in a Standard and a Wide, and the GT4 Retro and the GT8 come one way only.

On the Alpine the Wide adds three centimetres to the overall depth and changes nothing else at all, which is worth knowing before you pay for it. On the Classic it does more: three centimetres of depth, three on the cushion, three across the shoulders and three on the eighth measurement Corbeau call H. So a Wide Classic is genuinely a bigger seat and a Wide Alpine mostly is not.

F shoulder40cm40cm43cm46cm
H, the Classic onlynot on the drawingnot on the drawing32cm35cm

Height, base and hips are identical across both sizes on both seats, which is why this is a width decision and never a height one.

Which one goes in what

For a small period saloon where you want the cabin to look untouched, the GT4 Retro. It is the lowest at 64cm, the cheapest at £588.00, and it has the most open shoulders of the four at 40cm, so it is easy to get in and out of.

For a sports car where you want to be held a bit more, the Alpine or the Classic. Both 70cm, both far more wrapped at 24cm and 25cm across the shoulders, and both available in a Wide if you need it.

For anything that does real distance, or where you simply want a head restraint, the GT8. Just measure your door line first, because 93cm is a competition seat height in a classic seat shape.

They are made to order in the tartan. Ring Garreth, Cameron and the team on 0115 9893488 with the car and your height, or look through the whole Tartan Edition range and the rest of the Corbeau seats.

The ones we get asked

No. The classic shells are sold singly, so a pair means two in the basket. It is the reclining Tartan range where Corbeau only offer pairs.

Three of the four do, in two different ways. The GT8 has one built into its 93cm back. The Classic and the Alpine each carry a small separate head pad on a post above a short backrest, which is the period way of doing it. The GT4 Retro has nothing at all, which is part of why it is the lowest of the four.

It is an eighth dimension Corbeau put on the Classic drawing and on none of the others. It is 32cm on the Standard and 35cm on the Wide, and it moves with the seat when you go up a size.

They are listed as four point compatible. They are not FIA shells, so for anything scrutineered look at the competition range instead.

They are base mount, so they bolt down through the bottom onto a subframe made for your car. Tell us the car and we will tell you which frame.

No, and this is the bit the photography hides. Every seat here is offered in EIGHT tartans: Blair Ancient, Boyd Modern, Earl Of St Andrews, MacFarlane Clan Ancient, MacKenzie Dress Modern, MacMillan Old Modern, Stewart Dress Modern and Weir Ancient. You pick the design when you order. The blue one in all the pictures is Weir Ancient, which is the one we shoot because it photographs best, and the cloth is on the centre panels of the backrest and the cushion with the rest left plain black.
