Top 5 reclining seat choices for your Renault Clio Mk1 RT, including our fitting guide

The RT badge puts the Clio Mk1 at the top of the original trim ladder. It also puts it on a different floor plan from the rest of the range. The mounting points are in a different location underneath, which is why the RT takes its own dedicated subframe rather than sharing the standard Mk1 frame. It is the sort of detail that trips people up: two cars that look identical from the outside, different enough underneath to need separate brackets.

Cameron’s conversation with a Clio Mk1 RT owner usually starts with where the car gets used. Some are daily drivers that see a track day twice a year. Some are weekend cars that go to the odd sprint or autocross. A few are standard-shaped road cars that the owner has quietly sorted. The seat conversation is the same across all of them: proper side support without giving up the backrest adjustment that keeps the car usable every day.

  • One frame route in stock for the Mk1 RT: Cobra direct-fit subframe (14473), runner included, £255.00 inc VAT per seat position
  • The RT takes a dedicated frame; the standard Clio Mk1 subframe does not fit the RT floor
  • Cobra recliners use the 291mm x 330mm pattern; Corbeau recliners are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, so they fit either
  • Every seat in this guide is listed 4 point harness compatible
  • Priced per seat position; driver and passenger are two frames in the basket

The frame route into a Clio Mk1 RT

The Cobra direct-fit subframe is the only bracket we stock for the Clio Mk1 RT, and it covers the RT only. It bolts to the RT’s floor mounting points without drilling. Runner is included in the price, which is how Cobra list their frames; most competitor brackets exclude the runner from the headline price, so compare the complete cost rather than just the bracket price before switching brands.

Tell Cobra which seat is going onto the frame when you order. The frame is priced per seat position, so driver and passenger are two frames in the basket. If you have the standard Clio Mk1 rather than the RT, the frame is different: the standard Mk1 reclining guide covers both the Cobra and Sparco routes for that car.

Cobra direct-fit subframe

Product 14473. £255.00 inc VAT per seat position, runner included. RT-specific. Takes Cobra recliners at the 291mm x 330mm pattern, and Corbeau recliners drilled for both 291mm and 345mm. Every seat in this guide fits this frame.

RT

RT floor only

This frame is specific to the Mk1 RT trim level. The standard Clio Mk1 frame is a different product. If you are not certain which variant you have, send us your registration number and we will confirm before you order.

The number that decides it

Every seat below mounts through a base-mount bolt pattern. Cobra recliners use 291mm x 330mm. Corbeau recliners are drilled for both 291mm and 345mm, which is why they fit the Cobra subframe without adaption. There is one frame route for the Clio Mk1 RT, and every seat in this guide is confirmed compatible with it. The choice between them comes down to support level, headroom clearance and budget rather than which frame to run.

Pick the seat firstThe frame route is the same whichever of the five you choose. The decision comes down to support level, headroom clearance and budget. If you are comparing two and cannot decide, that is Cameron's job: contact us and we will work out which one suits the way your RT is used.

Cobra Daytona: the support pick

The Daytona is the seat Cameron puts most Clio Mk1 RT owners into when they want proper lateral support and the car sees regular track use. The shoulder and hip bolsters hold your position through a fast corner without needing to brace against the door. It is also the entry point to Cobra’s Signature custom order range: any trim combination from plain black cloth through to two-tone leather, with optional heating and lumbar for a car that covers winter miles.

At 865mm including the integrated headrest, it sits in the middle of the height range for this guide. The standard Clio Mk1 roof clearance handles this without trouble on most cars. If you have fitted a cage or modified the headlining in any way, take the clearance measurement and contact us before ordering.

  • £599 inc VAT, built to order in your trim choice
  • 32 to 38 inch waist; all heights suitable
  • 865mm tall, 580mm wide; 13.5kg
  • Cobra Signature trim options; optional heating and lumbar
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern; fits the Cobra subframe

Cobra Le Mans: the daily driver pick

The Le Mans is the seat Cobra has sold into daily-driven cars for a long time. It is slightly less committed on the bolstering than the Daytona, which some drivers prefer for a car that covers regular motorway miles alongside the occasional track day. The support is real and noticeably better than the standard Mk1 RT seat, without quite the same deep lateral hold of the Daytona.

At £619 inc VAT it is a small step up from the Daytona, available in the same Cobra Signature trim range. The choice between the two comes down mostly to how aggressively bolstered the driver wants the seat: if the Daytona feels too committed for everyday use, the Le Mans is the answer.

  • £619 inc VAT; Cobra Signature trim range
  • 32 to 38 inch waist; all heights suitable
  • Less aggressive bolstering than the Daytona, suited to daily use
  • Harness slots; 4 point harness compatible
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern; fits the Cobra subframe

Corbeau PSR: the pair play

The PSR makes the clearest case for replacing both seats at the same time. The pair comes in at £558 inc VAT. A single Cobra Daytona is £599. When both sides of the car need doing and the budget is the deciding factor, that comparison does most of the talking.

It fits the Cobra subframe because Corbeau drill the PSR for both the 291mm and 345mm patterns. The cloth trim sits well in a Clio interior. If you only need one side, ring us and we can arrange a single.

  • £558 inc VAT for both seats in one order
  • 32 to 38 inch waist; all heights suitable
  • Drilled for 291mm and 345mm patterns; fits the Cobra subframe
  • Harness slots; 4 point harness compatible
  • Less than one Daytona for both sides of the car

Corbeau Sportline RRS Low Base: the low-seat option

The RRS Low Base has a reduced base height compared to the standard RRS, which means the seat sits closer to the floor. For a Clio Mk1 that has had a cage fitted, or where the standard headroom is on the tighter side, the Low Base is usually the starting point. The integrated headrest is part of the seat profile rather than a separate post, so there is no extra height to account for above what you see listed.

Listed as a single seat. If both sides need doing, order two. It fits the Cobra subframe because Corbeau drill this seat for both 291mm and 345mm patterns.

  • £498 inc VAT each
  • 32 to 38 inch waist; all heights suitable
  • Lower base height than the standard RRS
  • Integrated headrest; 4 point harness compatible
  • 291mm or 345mm pattern; fits the Cobra subframe

Cobra Misano Anniversary: for a car that has been properly sorted

The Misano Anniversary is Cobra’s top recliner. What separates it from the seats below it shows over distance rather than in a showroom: the adjustable lumbar holds your position through a full session, and at 11.5kg it is the lightest seat in this guide. Made to order in any one or two colour leather combination with diamond-quilted centre panels. For a Clio Mk1 RT that has had real money spent on it, the Misano is the seat that belongs with the rest of the build.

At 885mm it is the tallest seat in this guide. If headroom is already borderline from a cage or a roll bar, take the clearance measurement before committing. Once it fits, it stays.

  • £1,649 inc VAT each, built individually to order
  • All waist sizes; all heights suitable
  • 885mm tall, 590mm wide; 11.5kg
  • Adjustable lumbar; optional heating; four to six weeks from order
  • 291mm x 330mm pattern; fits the Cobra subframe

Getting it bolted down

The Cobra subframe bolts to the Clio Mk1 RT’s original floor mounting points without drilling. Runner is included in the frame price, so there is one purchase for the bracket and the sliding adjustment: nothing else is needed between the floor and the seat for any of the five seats in this guide. Torque the floor bolts properly once fitted, and confirm the seat belt buckle clears the new seat base before the first drive.

Tell Cobra which seat is going onto the frame when you order. If you are fitting a harness alongside the seat, contact us first and we will confirm the combination and mounting route for your specific car before anything is dispatched.

Common questions

Will the standard Clio Mk1 subframe fit the RT?

No. The Mk1 RT has a different floor mounting arrangement to the standard Clio Mk1. The RT-specific frame (14473) is the correct part. The standard Mk1 frame does not bolt to the RT floor. If you are not certain which variant you have, send us your registration number before ordering and we will confirm.

Does the frame price include the runner?

Yes. The Cobra subframe for the Clio Mk1 RT is listed as a frame-and-runner combination at £255.00 inc VAT per seat position. Nothing else is needed between the floor and the seat base for any of the five seats in this guide.

Can I fit a Sparco or Recaro seat on the Cobra subframe?

No. The Cobra subframe takes seats at the 291mm x 330mm pattern, or Corbeau recliners drilled for both 291mm and 345mm. Sparco recliners use a 345mm x 271mm pattern, which does not line up with the Cobra subframe. Recaro base-mount seats use a wider 405mm pattern, which is different again. If you have a specific seat in mind that is not in this guide, contact us with the product details and we will check whether a fitting route exists.

Will these seats take a 4 point harness?

Every seat in this guide is listed by its manufacturer as 4 point harness compatible, with harness slots in the backrest. If you are fitting a harness alongside the seat, contact us before ordering and we will confirm the combination and mounting route for your specific car before anything is dispatched.

The Corbeau PSR is listed as a pair. Can I order just one?

Yes. Ring us on 0115 9893488 and we can sort a single seat if you only need one side. The pair is the standard listing because most people replacing the seats do both at the same time, but a single is available if that is what you need.

What I would actually buy

For most Clio Mk1 RT owners: the Daytona. It gives proper lateral support where the standard seat had none, it goes on the single frame route without complication, and it can be ordered in any Cobra Signature trim from plain cloth through to heated leather. The Le Mans is the version of that choice for a driver who finds the Daytona’s deeper bolsters too committed for everyday use.

The PSR pair is the clear answer if both sides of the car need doing and the budget is the deciding factor. Less than a single Daytona for two seats, drilled for the Cobra subframe, and available in a single if only one side needs doing.

The RRS Low Base earns its place when headroom is the question. Lower than any Cobra recliner in this guide, and it sits on the same Cobra subframe without adaption.

The Misano Anniversary is for the car that has been properly sorted. When someone has spent real money on the suspension, the brakes and the engine, the interior should match. At 885mm it is the tallest seat here, so take the clearance measurement before committing if headroom is tight.

If you have the standard Clio Mk1 rather than the RT, the frame route is different and the seat options are wider: the standard Mk1 reclining guide covers both Cobra and Sparco routes. If you are after bucket seats rather than recliners, the Clio Mk1 bucket seat guide covers the full range of options for the whole Mk1 family. Ring 0115 9893488 and we will work out which of the five suits how your RT is used.
