The M4 is a Recaro car more than anything else we sell seats for. Six of the nine seats on this page are Recaro, including the Pole Position 2018 Edition, which is a seat we do not put on any other guide in this range.
There is a reason for that beyond fashion. The M4 arrived with good sports seats and a carbon roof, so the people changing them are usually chasing the last of the support and the weight rather than fixing something that was poor to begin with, and that is the end of the market Recaro sit at.
The frame side is simpler than the M3 saloon. PCI make a sliding sub frame for the M4 specifically, and the base mount option is Planted’s family bracket covering the 3 and 4 Series and both M cars.

What is on this page
Two options underneath
PCI make a sliding sub frame listed specifically for the M4. It puts the seat on a runner so it still moves fore and aft once fitted, which suits a car that is driven to circuits and used on the road in between.
The base mount option is Planted’s family bracket, which is catalogued across the F30 and F31 3 Series, the F32 4 Series and both the F80 M3 and F82 M4. One part covering the family rather than a car specific frame, which is the opposite of how the F80 saloon is covered.
If you are going Recaro, and on this car most people do, the shells hang on Recaro side mounts. Their sub-frames take Recaro seats only, so that is a decision that locks the rest of the setup.

Powered seats and sensorsThe M4 came with powered seats and, depending on specification, occupancy sensing. A bucket on a direct fit frame is manual and changes what the car sees. Tell us the specification when you enquire and we will go through what comes out and what stays.
The Recaro range, and the alternatives
Four Pole Position variants sit on this page and they cover a wide spread of money. The standard FIA shell, the road going ABE version, the 2018 Edition and the Carbon ABE at the top. All four are drawn for drivers under six foot and a 32in to 36in waist, so they suit the same driver and differ on construction and price rather than fit.
If that fit window is not yours, the Mirco RS2 and the Sabelt GT3 are both listed for all driver heights and are a good deal less money.

Reclining seats
For an M4 that is still a road car, a reclining shell is the sensible half of this page. You keep a seat you can live with and gain the support the standard one runs out of.
The Recaro Sportster CS lists no waist restriction at all and comes in a heated version, which on a car used through the winter is worth the difference. The Corbeau Sportline RRS Elite is the value option and covers up to a 38in waist.

Our picksDecide on Recaro or not, and the rest follows
Going Recaro means Recaro side mounts and a setup built around that, which is fine and it is what most M4 owners choose. If the Pole Position fit window does not suit you, say so early, because the Mirco RS2 and Sabelt GT3 open the car up to taller drivers for a lot less. Cameron works out the fit and the combination for a given car, so send your height and waist first.
Harnesses
The standard belt is right on the road and works with every seat here. On circuit a harness is what stops you holding yourself in place with the wheel.
The shoulder straps need a solid anchor behind you at or above shoulder height, so a harness bar or a cage. Tell us what is behind the front seats and we will confirm it will carry belts before you order.

Our recommendationsMatch the belt to the class

Questions about fitting seats in a BMW M4
Does the M4 take the same frames as the F80 M3?
The Planted bracket does cover both, because it is a family part listed across the F30, F31, F32, F80 and F82. The sliding sub frames are catalogued separately per car, so order the M4 one for an M4. The F80 saloon has its own guide.
Why is this page mostly Recaro?
Because that is what suits the car and what people buy for it. The M4 arrived with decent sports seats, so owners changing them are usually after the last of the support and the weight rather than fixing something poor, and that is where Recaro sit.
I am over six foot. Do the Pole Position seats fit?
All four Pole Position variants on this page are drawn for drivers under six foot and a 32in to 36in waist. If that is not you, look at the Mirco RS2 or the Sabelt GT3, which are both listed for all driver heights and cost considerably less.
Can I put a Sparco seat on a Recaro sub-frame?
No. Recaro sub-frames are drawn for Recaro seats only. If you want the flexibility to change seat brand later, stay on a base mount setup where the Sparco, OMP and Corbeau pattern is shared.
Can I keep the seat adjustment?
Yes, with the PCI sliding sub frame listed for the M4, which keeps the fore and aft travel after fitting. The Planted family bracket is the base mount route and sets the position once, sitting the seat lower.
