Safety Devices roll cages
The Talbot Sunbeam is the only car in the whole Safety Devices range on this site where we hold two different full cages for one shell. C000 is the six point at £702. C009 is the multipoint at £807. They sit next to each other on the category page looking like alternatives, and they are not really alternatives at all.
The rest of the Talbot range is one car and one cage. The Avenger takes C001, and if that part number rings a bell it is because the same cage is listed under the Sunbeam badge as well.

The Sunbeam has two cages and the cheaper one is the smaller one
C000 is a six point bolt-in cage at £702. C009 is a multipoint bolt-in at £807. Both are for the 1977 to 1981 three door, both are steel, both are listed FIA approved and MSA approved.
The £105 between them is tube. A multipoint cage carries more of it, ties into more places in the shell and ends up stiffer. The six point is the lighter, simpler, easier to live with answer.
The same split runs through the rear cages, C000 at £402 against C009 at £440, so whichever route you take there is a matching rear option.
Which one you want comes down to the regulations you run under first and how much you value the extra stiffness second. If the car is a road car with occasional track use, the six point is usually plenty. If it is being built for stage rally, look at C009 and check your class before you commit either way.
Buying on price alone is the mistake hereThe two Sunbeam cages are £105 apart, which is small enough that the cheaper one looks like an easy win and big enough that people notice it. It is the wrong thing to decide on. Work out what your class asks for, then pick. If you are not sure, send us the registration and tell us what you compete in.
The Talbot Avenger is the same cage as the Sunbeam Avenger
C001, £667 for the full cage and £402 for the rear. That part number also appears on our site under the Sunbeam badge at exactly the same prices, because the car was sold under both badges and Safety Devices build one cage for it.
So there is nothing to choose between the two listings. Buy whichever you find first. What you should not do is order both on the assumption that a Talbot Avenger and a Sunbeam Avenger need different parts.

The rear cages
Each full cage has a matching rear version that stops behind the front seats. On a car that still does road miles that is often the sensible choice, because the front of the cabin stays standard and nothing sits between you and the door.

What the design options actually change
On top of choosing between C000 and C009, each cage is ordered against a design option. This is the layer people skip, and it changes more than the part number choice does on some cars.
- Single fixed diagonal. One brace across the main hoop, stopping it folding sideways. The minimum most regulations accept.
- Single fixed diagonal and harness bar. Adds a shoulder strap anchorage at the right height, which is why most road and track builds end up here.
- Cross diagonal and harness bar. More tube again and a stiffer shell, and the version most competition classes are written around.
- With or without door bars. Best protection in a side impact, and the thing you will notice every single time you get into a three door hatchback.

Bolt-in
Mounts on spreader plates through the floor and sills. No welding, nothing permanent, and it can come back out if the car is sold on standard. This is what most road and track day cars run.

Weld-in
Welded straight to the shell, which gives a stiffer car and a better load path into the structure. It wants a motorsport fabricator and the interior usually has to come out. Permanent once it is in.
Pad anything a helmet can reachWe do not stock FIA rated roll bar padding at the moment, so buy it alongside the cage and decide where it goes while the car is still in pieces. It is the last job on the list and the one most likely to get skipped.

The harness the cage is there to anchor
Both Talbot Sunbeam cages and the Avenger cage offer a harness bar in their design options. That bar is what gives the shoulder straps a mounting point at the right height and angle. Fitting a cage and keeping the original inertia reels leaves most of the benefit on the table.

What is the difference between the C000 and C009 Sunbeam cages?
C000 is a six point bolt-in at £702 and C009 is a multipoint bolt-in at £807. The multipoint carries more tube and ties into more of the shell, so it is stiffer and heavier. Both are FIA and MSA approved on their listings, and which one you need is decided by the regulations for your class.
Is the Talbot Avenger cage different to the Sunbeam Avenger cage?
No. Both are part number C001 at the same prices. The car was sold under both badges and there is one cage for it.
Do these fit the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus?
The listings cover the 1977 to 1981 three door shell. A Lotus is that shell with a different engine and gearbox in it, so the cage mounting areas are the ones the cage is built for. If your car has been modified around the bulkhead or the rear arches, send us the registration and tell us what has been done before you order.
Can I fit one myself?
All six are bolt-in and go in on spreader plates through the floor and sills, so a competent home mechanic can. Dry fit everything before anything is permanent and check door clearance, seat position and how you get out in a helmet with a harness done up.
Is there a weld-in Talbot cage?
Not in the range we hold. All six here bolt in. If your class requires a welded cage, tell us which class and we will look at what else is available for the shell.
Does a rear cage satisfy scrutineering?
It depends on the class, and the rules change year to year. Some disciplines accept a rear cage, others want a full cage with door bars. Check your own regulations first, then pick on practicality. Where a cage needs signing off, keep the certification with the logbook.
