Ford Mustang 1999 Fitment Guide With Cobra Monaco Pro Seats

Customer cars, February 2025

A customer came to the showroom to collect a Cobra Monaco Pro for a 1999 Ford Mustang GT, with an unusual plan: fit the bucket seat but keep the Mustang's factory electric seat adjustment. That way the seat could still slide forward and back at the touch of a switch.

Once it was in and had done a week of driving, they sent us photographs and a write-up of how they did it. Here is that installation as the customer described it, the parts used, and our notes for anyone thinking of doing the same.

  • Car: 1999 Ford Mustang GT
  • Seat: Cobra Monaco Pro, FIA 8855-1999, steel
  • Mounts: Endurance Motorsport Multi Point M8 side mount brackets
  • The factory electric seat frame was kept, so the seat still adjusts
  • This was the customer's own installation, not a kit we make

What the customer wanted

A fixed back bucket seat normally goes on a frame or runners, and any powered adjustment goes with the factory seat. This customer wanted the support of a bucket seat in the Mustang without losing the electric fore and aft movement of the original seat, so the car stayed easy to use on the road.

The plan was to strip the factory seat down to its powered frame and fit side mounts to it, so the bucket seat would sit where the original cushion and back had been.

How the customer fitted it

As the customer described it to us:

  • The factory seat cushion and back came off the powered frame by undoing four bolts.
  • Two notches on the frame were ground back so the Endurance Motorsport side mounts could line up with the existing mounting points.
  • The side mounts were bolted to the frame, giving the fixing points for the Cobra Monaco Pro.
  • The mounts raised the seat, so it was set on its lowest holes. The seat’s shape then touched the plastic trim for the lap belt, and the top half of the side mounts was trimmed to clear it.
  • The electric seat switch was tucked behind the driver’s seat, where it can still be reached.

After a week of use the customer told us the seat felt secure and the adjustment worked as intended. The frame was later taken out again and painted to protect it from rust.

This is the kind of detail that decides whether an adaptation works. The factory frame had to be altered in two places before the side mounts would sit flat against it.

It also shows the age of the frame. On a car from 1999, it is worth cleaning and checking the original metal before trusting it with a new job, which is exactly why the customer later painted it.

Our notes before you try this

This was the customer’s own installation on a modified factory frame. It is not a kit we make, and we have not tested it. Grinding and trimming mounting parts changes how they carry load, and a factory powered frame was not designed to hold a bucket seat on side mounts.

Garreth’s advice is simple: if you are thinking of doing something similar, have the finished frame and mounts checked by someone experienced in seat fitting before you rely on it. For track use or competition, a proper frame made for the car is the safer route, and your event regulations may require one.

The parts used

Cobra Monaco Pro. A fixed back bucket seat homologated to FIA 8855-1999, built in steel with a solid plated back and base. It takes base mounting or side mounting, has slots for four or six point harnesses and an integral head pad, and is listed for drivers under 6ft with a 32 to 36 inch waist. The steel makes it heavier than a fibreglass seat, but it is tough and has a big following for road and club cars.

Endurance Motorsport Multi Point M8 side mounts. Steel side mounts with several rows of holes, so the seat height and angle can be set by moving up or down the bracket. They suit seats on the standard 290mm side hole spacing with M8 fixings. Corbeau seats use M10 fixings and need a different mount.

The Monaco range

The Monaco comes in several versions: FIA homologated and non FIA seats, different trims including vinyl and spacer fabric, and narrower shells for smaller drivers. If you are not sure which suits you, send us your height and waist and tell us what the car is used for, and we will point you at the right one.

No. They are M8 mounts, and Corbeau seats use M10 fixings, so they need a different mount.
