New And Improved Safety Devices Vauxhall Roll Cages For 2025
Roll cage news, November 2024
With the 2025 season on the way, we have been through our whole range of Safety Devices roll cages for Vauxhall and Opel cars. Every listing has been updated with clearer information on the cage design, the approvals, the models it fits and the options you can choose, and the range now covers more Vauxhall models than before.
It runs from Corsa and Astra hatchbacks through to classics such as the Chevette, Manta, Ascona and Viva, with bolt-in cages, rear cages on their own and a small number of full weld-in cages. Here is what has changed and how to choose between them.
- Our Safety Devices Vauxhall and Opel cage listings have all been updated
- Covers Corsa A, B and C, Astra Mk1 to Mk5, VX220 and classics such as the Chevette, Manta and Ascona
- Bolt-in cages, rear cages on their own and full CDS weld-in cages
- Black powder coat as standard, with other colours as options
- Each listing shows its cage number, mounting points and approval
- Every cage is designed for one specific shell

An expanded Vauxhall range for 2025
Safety Devices are a UK roll cage maker, and they design each cage for one particular body shell. That is why the range is split by model and generation: a Corsa B cage is a different part from a Corsa C cage, and a three door Astra can need a different cage from a five door.
The update covers the modern hatchbacks most people bring to track days and club racing (the Corsa A, B and C, the Astra Mk1 to Mk5 and the VX220) and the classics that still turn up in historic racing and rallying, including the Chevette, the Chevette Coupe, the Kadett C, the Manta A and B, the Ascona A and B, the Viva HC, the Magnum and the Frontera Sport.
Each listing now gives the Safety Devices cage number, the years and body styles it fits, where the front and rear sections mount, and which parts are needed together. The price shown is the lowest cost element, and the drop down menus build the full cage and its total price.
Bolt-in or weld-in: which is right for you
Most of the Vauxhall range is bolt-in. The cage is bolted to the floor, sills and rear wheel arches using spreader plates, so it can be fitted without welding and taken out again later. There are two ways to buy one.
Rear cage only. The main hoop behind the front seats with its backstays, and usually a diagonal and a harness bar. It keeps the cabin open at the front and gives your harness a proper mounting point, which is why it is a popular choice for a track day car.
Full bolt-in cage. The rear cage together with the front section that runs up the A pillars, and door bars if you want them. It adds more protection around the whole cabin, and it is what most club racing and rallying needs.
Weld-in cage. Welded directly to the shell, so it becomes part of the structure. The full weld-in cages in this range are made from CDS steel and come with extra bracing such as roof diagonals, dash bars and strut braces. A weld-in cage is a permanent change to the car and must be fitted by an experienced fabricator: the quality of the welding is part of how the cage works.
Matching the cage to what you do
Track days. A rear cage with a harness bar is where many people start. It gives the harness a strong anchor and leaves the car easy to live with between events.
Club and amateur racing. Most championships ask for a full cage with door bars and an approved specification. The rules belong to your championship, so read them before you order and choose the options they ask for.
Rallying. Rally cars face rolls and heavy impacts, so drivers usually go for a full cage with extra bracing, and at the higher levels a weld-in cage.
Circuit racing at a higher level. Here the regulations tend to ask for a full weld-in cage to a set specification. Your scrutineer and your championship’s technical regulations have the final word.
We are a retailer, not a governing body, so Garreth’s advice is simple: check what your series needs first, then pick the cage and options that meet it.
What you can choose on each bolt-in cage
The updated listings let you build the cage you need. The main choices are the rear cage design (a single fixed diagonal, a single diagonal with a harness bar, or a cross diagonal with a harness bar), whether to add the front section, and whether to add door bars on one side, both sides or neither.
The finish is black powder coat as standard, with other colours such as grey, silver, white and red available for an extra charge, and bare steel on request.

From this update, every full Vauxhall cage in the range also has its rear cage listed on its own, for anyone who wants to start with the rear section and add the front later. Read the notes on each listing carefully. On some cars, the simpler rear cage designs are marked as not for competition use and not homologated, and only the cross diagonal with harness bar version carries the approval. If you are going to compete, that detail matters.

Our Safety Devices Vauxhall weld-in cages
For cars built for serious competition, the range includes full CDS weld-in cages for the Corsa A and Corsa B, and a weld-in cage for the Astra Mk3. The Corsa B cage, for example, comes with cross door bars, front triangulation, a dash bar, a roof diagonal, a cross diagonal and a harness bar, and it is supplied unpainted and oiled so they can be welded and finished once fitted.
A weld-in cage is only as good as its installation. The shell needs to be prepared properly, the welds need to be sound all the way round, and the finished cage needs to be checked. If you are not a fabricator yourself, plan the cost and time of a professional fit into the build.

All of the Vauxhall and Opel cages are in one place: our Safety Devices Vauxhall and Opel roll cages category, with full cages and rear cages for each model. Find your car, check the years and body style on the listing, and choose your options.
Safety Devices make cages for a long list of other cars too, all with the same kind of options, and you can browse them in our Safety Devices section.
Harnesses to go with your cage
A cage with a harness bar gives you a proper place to mount the shoulder straps of a harness. These are some of the harnesses we sell most often alongside a cage, from four point road and track belts to six point FIA harnesses. Check that the harness width and mounting suit your seat, and if you compete, that its approval matches your championship.
