The Mirco RTS Makes For A Perfect Simulator Racing Seat
Customer sim rig, June 2024
One of our customers has sent us a photo of their finished sim racing rig, and the seat is a Mirco RTS in blue velour. It sits on an aluminium profile rig with a wheel, a curved monitor and a pedal set, and it looks the part.
More sim racers are choosing a real motorsport bucket for their rig, and the RTS is a good example of why. Here is what to think about when choosing a sim seat, and why this one works.
- A customer's sim rig fitted with a blue velour Mirco RTS bucket seat
- The RTS is a fibreglass, fixed back, FIA approved motorsport seat
- It side mounts, so it bolts to a rig with side mounts, as in a car
- Mirco offer the RTS in a wide range of colours to order
- Harness slots let you add a harness to the rig later

What is on this page
The customer's rig
The rig is built from aluminium profile, with the seat low at the back, the wheel base on a stand in front, and a large curved monitor mounted over the wheel. The pedals sit at the front of the frame. It is a proper driving position, not a gaming chair pushed up to a desk.
The Mirco RTS is bolted to the rig through its side mounts, exactly as it would be in a car. That is one of the reasons a motorsport seat works so well on a sim rig: the seat is rigid, it does not move under you, and you sit in the same position every time.
What to look for in a sim racing seat
Fit first. A bucket seat holds you by the hips and shoulders, so it needs to match your build. Measure your waist and hips before choosing, and if you can, sit in a few. A seat that is right for twenty minutes can be wrong for two hours.
Mounting. Check how your rig takes a seat. Most profile rigs take side mount buckets with a pair of side mounts, and some take base mount seats on sliders, which makes it easier to move the seat back and forward if more than one person uses the rig.
Trim. Velour is soft and warm, mesh fabrics run cooler, and vinyl wipes clean. For long sessions in a warm room, it is worth thinking about.
Budget. A fibreglass FIA bucket costs more than a gaming chair, but it is made to hold a driver in a real car and it will last. If you ever build a track car, the same seat can go into it.
The RTS family is Mirco's fibreglass fixed back bucket, approved to FIA 8855-1999, with slots for a 4 or 6 point harness. Our customer went for blue velour, and Mirco can trim it in black or black with green, blue, grey or red, with many more colours to order.
For a sim rig, the harness slots are a useful extra. Plenty of sim racers add a harness to feel held in the seat, and the RTS is ready for it.

Why the RTS works on a rig
It is comfortable for long sessions, it holds you in place when you are working the wheel hard, and it looks the part next to real motorsport hardware. Because it is a real racing seat, the driving position is the one you would have in a car, which matters if you use the sim to practise.
Garreth’s advice is to check your rig’s seat mounting before you order, and to send us your waist size. We can supply the side mounts or sliders to suit, so the seat arrives ready to bolt on.
