The Corbeau Hexa System 1, 650. A fixed back racing bucket in fibreglass with lateral head support, side mount, six point harness compatible, FIA 8855-1999, listed for 36 to 40 inch waists and any height. Black, or black with blue, grey or red trim, with coloured shells to order.

Head support at Sprint money

The Hexa is the angular one of Corbeau’s head-support shells, and at 650 it costs the same as the Revenge X and Revolution System 1. Choosing between the three is a matter of shape: the Hexa sits you a little more upright and wraps more at the shoulder. Sit in them if you can get to us.

FIA, and a HANS

FIA 8855-1999, with the expiry on the seat’s own label. Six point harness compatible, which is what a head and neck restraint needs.

System 1 or 3

Fibreglass here at 650. The Kevlar System 3 is 750 and lighter. Same shape, same fittings.

Colours

All black, or black with blue, grey or red. The shell in eight colours or a RAL code, made to order, so allow lead time.

Sizing

This listing shows 36 to 40 inch waists and the System 3 shows 32 to 36 for what should be the same shell width, so give us your waist size when ordering and we will make sure the right one goes out.

Corbeau seat size guide

Corbeau size their composite buckets Standard or XL, and the rule for choosing is one line long. The System number is the shell material, not the size.

How Corbeau size their seats

Corbeau’s own guidance for the Sprint X, Pro-Series X, Revenge X, Revolution X and RXC X is Standard up to a 34 inch waist and XL from 34 inch. Our product pages band them as Standard 32 to 36 and XL 36 to 40, which is the same rule with room either side. A 34 to 36 inch waist is the crossover: if you carry your weight on your hips take the XL, if you are tall and lean the Standard.

System 1, 3 and 5 are the shell layup. System 1 is GRP and Kevlar, System 3 Kevlar and carbon, System 5 full carbon. The shape and the sizes are the same across all three, so pick the size first and the System on weight and budget.

The Sportline reclining seats (RRS, RRB, SVR, VLS, Dakota and the rest) are one size for a 32 to 38 inch waist. The Classic bucket comes in Standard and Excel width, the Excel being the wider shell.

Low Base versionsThe RRS Low Base and VLS Low Base are the same shell on a lower frame. Choose them for headroom, not for width.

All the X-range buckets mount through Corbeau Pro-Team side mounts with M10 12.9 fixings. The side mounts come in four angles (35 degree, 90 degree, 90 degree extended and restricted space), which is the car’s decision rather than the driver’s.

Measure yourself first

Four numbers decide whether a seat fits. Take them in the clothes you drive in, and write them down before you compare models.

AWaistAround your natural waist, not your trouser size. Trouser sizes usually run an inch or two under the real figure, and the waist bands on our product pages use the real one.

BSeated hip widthSit on a hard chair with your feet flat and measure straight across the widest point of your hips with a rule or a straight edge, not a tape that follows the curve. This is the number that decides whether a fixed shell is tight.

CShouldersStraight across the back at the widest point. Fixed back seats hold you here, so a shell that is narrow at the shoulders is uncomfortable long before it is unsafe.

DHeight and torsoYour height, and if you are over 6 ft whether that is mostly leg or mostly body. A long body needs a taller shell with the head support set higher.

Before you order

Check the car, not only the driver. Transmission tunnels, door cards and B pillars are what stop a wide shell going in. Our seat mounting and fixing points guide covers what to measure.
Side mount and base mount shells are not interchangeable. Which one you need depends on the car and the subframe, so pick the brackets at the same time as the seat.
If you run a HANS or plan to, filter on HANS friendly. The shoulder openings are cut to clear the collar.
FIA seats carry an expiry date on the homologation label. Check what your championship accepts and how long the seat has left, particularly on discounted older stock.

Will I fit in this seat?
The maker sizes this seat for drivers with a 36in to 40in waist. Those are the paper numbers; how a seat actually feels to sit in and climb out of is a different question, and our showroom team sit in these seats every day, so call us with your height and waist and we will give you the honest answer.

Is it FIA approved, and for how long?
Yes, it carries FIA 8855-1999 homologation. Every FIA seat has a not-valid-after year printed on its homologation label, and that label date is what a scrutineer checks, so look at the label on the seat you receive and check it against your championship regulations. Buying new means you get the freshest label the maker currently produces.

What do I need to fit it to my car?
This is a side-mount seat: it hangs between side brackets, the motorsport-style stack with fine height and angle control. You will need the car-specific frame, and a sliding runner if you want fore-and-aft adjustment. Does it work with harnesses and a HANS device?
The shell takes 6 point compatible. If you are planning the full seat, harness, and HANS setup, tell us the car and we will spec it end to end.

How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Fair question, because makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike in the car. We keep the ranges on display in the Nottingham showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and if you cannot get to us, call and describe your build, as the team sit in these seats every day. FIA bucket seats are built to order, typically 3 to 7 days from the day you order. Kevlar and carbon shells take longer, so ask us if you are working to a date.

Reclining sport seats are also made to order in your chosen trim, and run to a similar timescale.
