The Tillett W4 is a GRP seat from the W series, designed for single-seaters and formula cars where there is not enough cockpit clearance for a standard headrest. There is no headrest. Shell is fibreglass, black. SKU W4-Black-GRP.
Road and Track approval. The W4 takes a 6-point harness, which separates it from the W1i and W2i in this range, both of which are 4-point. Side mount and base mount are both options. A back frame is also available for cars or regulations that require it.
Tillett publish the W4 weight as around 2 kg without a back frame. That is light for a fixed-back race seat. The figure varies slightly between builds as Tillett note variation of up to 10 per cent across their production. Adding a back frame will increase the total weight; Tillett do not publish the exact figure for the framed version.
The W5 is the other 6-point harness seat in the W range. The key difference: the W4 has the back frame option and the W5 does not. If your regulations or chassis require a back frame, the W4 is the seat. If not, both are valid and the W5 is marginally cheaper.
Seat cover options are Dinamica faux suede panels or bare shell.
If your car is a conventional circuit or road car rather than a single-seater, the B6 range is likely to be the better fit. The W series is purpose-built for the low-headroom formula cockpit.
Will I fit in this seat?
Send us your height and waist size and we will confirm the fit. The paper dimensions only tell half the story, and our showroom team sit in these seats every day, so you get the honest answer rather than a guess from a chart.
Is this seat FIA approved?
No, this is a road and track day seat rather than a homologated competition seat. For events that require an FIA seat, look at the FIA-approved shells in the range, and ask us if you are unsure what your series needs.
What do I need to fit it to my car?
This seat takes both base and side mounting, so the fitting stack depends on which route you pick for your car. You will need the car-specific frame, and a sliding runner if you want fore-and-aft adjustment. Our guide on base mount versus side mount walks through the whole stack, and tell us your car and we will quote the full kit.
Does it work with harnesses and a HANS device?
The shell takes 6 point compatible. If you are planning the full seat, harness, and HANS setup, tell us the car and we will spec it end to end.
How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Fair question, because makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike in the car. We keep the ranges on display in the Nottingham showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and if you cannot get to us, call and describe your build, as the team sit in these seats every day. Our head support measurements guide shows the kind of real-world data we collect.
Tillett seats are custom-made to order
These carbon seats are handcrafted in the UK for each order. We do not stock or display them in the showroom, so everything is a special order placed with Tillett when you buy.
Lead times depend on the model and the options you choose, so ring us before ordering if you are working to a date.

Because each seat is made for you, our special order terms apply once production has begun.
