Choosing Sabelt seats and harnesses
Sabelt makes competition seats, four and six-point harnesses, formula belts, side mounts and installation hardware. Similar names can hide different adjusters, ends and layouts, so we work from the full part number and the anchor points in the car.
Treat the seat and harness as one restraint installation. Check the seat openings, belt width, buckle, adjusters, end fittings, anti-sub route, anchor positions and approval before choosing the colour.
Gold, Silver and Steel distinguish Sabelt harness ranges and hardware specifications. They are not a simple safety ranking. The exact part number and label show the belt layout, end fittings and approval, including whether it is FIA, ECE or non-approved.
Draw the belt and anchor layout first
Four point or six point is only the beginning of the specification.
01Competition seats
GT and Taurus families cover different driver sizes, shell shapes and FIA standards. Check the exact model and supports.
02Four-point harnesses
Road, kit-car and competition listings can use different approvals and end fittings. Do not choose by point count alone.
03Six-point harnesses
GT, rally, endurance and formula layouts need the correct shoulder, lap and anti-sub arrangement.
Send the full harness code and photographs of the anchor points. Colour and point count do not tell us which ends, adjusters or anti-sub arrangement you need.
When Cameron checks a Sabelt harness order, he wants the complete code and a clear picture of the anchorages. Two six-point belts can use different shoulder ends, lap adjusters or anti-sub layouts even when the web photographs look alike.
The seat matters at the same time. Its openings must suit the driver and belt route, and any competition shell must be installed with the supports named in its documentation. Work out those details before adding eye bolts or plates to the basket.
Seats, harnesses and hardware as one installation
Each part has its own specification, but all three must work together around the driver.
01Seats
Compare the driver fit, outer shell clearance, homologation and specified mounting brackets.
02Harnesses
Read the point count, strap widths, buckle, adjusters, ends, layout and approval from the exact code.
03Installation hardware
Eye bolts, plates and brackets must suit the attachment, surrounding structure and load path.
Sabelt Gold, Silver and Steel harnesses use different combinations of adjusters and hardware. Read the current part-number table for the exact belt instead of treating the range name as a league table.
The current Sabelt catalogue includes FIA 8853-2016 harnesses alongside ECE and non-FIA products, plus seats approved to different FIA standards. Check the labels and the rules that apply to the car.
How a Sabelt seat should fit
Dimensions narrow the search. Pressure points decide whether the shell works.
Measure while seated
Measure across the hips and shoulders in the clothing you will drive in. Overall height and trouser size are only rough clues.
Check the base
The hip area should support without a hard pinch. Make sure the thigh bolsters do not force the knees inward or obstruct pedal movement.
Check the upper shell
Notice whether the shoulder supports hold the torso or roll the shoulders forward. Compare head and helmet space as well.
Set the final angle
Harness-slot height changes with recline and padding. Judge it at the installed angle, not with the seat upright on a showroom floor.
Stay in it for a while
The obvious pressure point often appears after five minutes. A seat that hurts in the showroom will not improve during a warm session.
With Sabelt, the small letters in the code often matter more than the product photo. We read the whole line before choosing any extra hardware.

Work from the narrowest part of the cockpit and build the mounting stack on paper first.
Check before ordering
- Tunnel-to-sill width at seat-base height
- Shoulder clearance at door, pillar and cage
- Steering wheel, pedal and helmet position
- Vehicle frame, mounts and slider height
- Belt buckle and harness anchor locations
Do not assume
- Universal means bolt straight in
- The passenger side has the same room
- A lower side mount guarantees a lower seat
- Original airbag and belt systems can be ignored
- Another model from the brand uses the same holes
Plan the seat supports and harness anchorages together. A belt can be long enough and still have poor geometry if the shoulder, lap or anti-sub straps leave the driver at the wrong angle.
Do not add eye bolts or backing plates until the attachment type and load path are known. Existing holes are not automatically suitable harness anchors.
Approval, supports and belts
Read the documents for the seat you are actually buying.
| Check | What it answers | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Seat label | Which homologation and date apply to this shell | Label on the actual seat |
| Technical list | Whether the model and support are recorded | Current FIA list |
| Event rules | Whether that standard and date are accepted | Championship and organiser regulations |
| Mounting drawing | Which supports, holes and fasteners to use | Sabelt fitting instructions |
| Belt geometry | Whether lap, shoulder and anti-sub straps run correctly | Harness maker and governing-body rules |
FIA homologation is for competition. It does not by itself answer road legality, original belt routing, airbags, access, insurance or vehicle inspection. Check the complete installation.

Common Sabelt questions
Is every Sabelt seat FIA approved?▾
No. Approval belongs to the exact model, not the badge. For competition, read the label on the seat and check the current FIA technical list, the maker’s fitting instructions and your event regulations.
Will a Sabelt seat fit my car?▾
Not by itself. Check the shell against the tunnel, sill, door, cage and driving position, then choose the correct vehicle frame and side or base mounts. A universal seat still needs a car-specific installation route.
How do I choose the right Sabelt size?▾
Use the published dimensions to make a shortlist, then sit in the seat if possible. Hip width, thigh shape, torso length, shoulder support and harness-slot height matter more than a trouser waist label on its own.
Can I keep the original three-point seat belt?▾
Sometimes, but it depends on the seat, mount, buckle location, belt path and the car. Do not assume a harness opening makes a safe route for an original belt. Check access, airbags, warning systems, insurance and inspection requirements too.
Do Sabelt side mounts fit every Sabelt bucket seat?▾
No. Match the mount to the exact seat and its approval documents. Hole spacing, shell height and homologated supports vary. Advanced competition seats can require the named support rather than a convenient generic bracket.
Can you check the approval date before dispatch?▾
Yes. Ask before ordering if remaining homologation life affects the purchase. We can check available stock rather than inferring a date from a product photograph or model name.
Send the Sabelt code and anchor layout
Tell us the seat, harness, car and competition rules, and include photos of the proposed anchors. We can check the belt ends, routing and mounting parts before you order.
