The Puma is one of Ford’s better sporting coupes from the late 1990s: front-wheel drive on Ka underpinnings but with a 16-valve Zetec head, a low roofline, and a snug driver-focused cabin that made it a long-standing club motorsport favourite. The combination of a narrow transmission tunnel and close-fitting doors means seat geometry matters here more than in a standard hatchback. Get the seat too high and you are out of headroom; get it wrong laterally and the bolsters rub the door trim.
Part 866016-1836 is Recaro’s direct-fit sub-frame for the Puma. It bolts to the OEM floor mounting points and carries integrated sliding runners, so the seat remains adjustable front to back. The price is higher than some of the simpler frame kits in the range, which reflects the more involved bracket geometry that the Puma’s floor requires compared with a contemporary Ford saloon.
These frames suit Recaro base-mount reclining seats and base-mount bucket seats. Side-mounted competition shells will not fit without separate adaptor bars. One frame per seat. If you are building a Puma for track days and are unsure whether a reclining seat or a fixed-back shell works better for your height in this specific cabin, call us before ordering. The showroom team has fitted Recaro seats into Pumas and can give you an honest answer.
