The Type Eco has sold consistently for good reason. It is a properly sized fabric reclining seat at a price that makes sense for a daily driver upgrade, a first trackday seat, or a show car that will see occasional use. Part number SS40, £225 single. Three colour combinations: black and blue, black and grey, and black and red.
Auto Style published the dimensions: base 51cm, shoulder 54cm, depth 55cm, height 91cm, weight 13kg. The 51cm base and 54cm shoulder cover most drivers without fouling a door or a centre console. If the car is narrow, measure the gap before ordering; 54cm at the shoulders is the number to compare against.
The reclining backrest is double-sided adjustable. The seat works with 3 or 4-point harness slots. Sliders are included. Bolt pattern is 345mm x 280mm.
The Eco Lux (SS40L) uses the same shell at the same price. The Lux version comes only in black with red stitching and is trimmed in vinyl rather than fabric. If the colour choice matters or fabric breathability is the priority, this version is the right one. If you only need black-red and vinyl cleans up better for the way the car is used, the Eco Lux costs the same.
For £30 more, the RS6-II Fabric (SS69, £255) is a more recent design with a taller shell profile. Below the Eco, the Type Z Carbon (SS 16BC, £214.50) covers similar ground in carbon-effect vinyl. Road and Track approval, all heights, all waist sizes.
Have you written anything about this exact product?
Yes, we have covered this exact product: Discover the Auto Style Type AK Reclining Sports Seat, and Auto Style Type Classic Bucket Seats Now Available to View In-Store. That is first-hand coverage from our own builds and showroom, not brochure copy.
Will I fit in this seat?
The maker lists no driver size restriction on this seat, so it suits the full range of heights and waists. Those are the paper numbers; how a seat actually feels to sit in and climb out of is a different question, and our showroom team sit in these seats every day, so call us with your height and waist and we will give you the honest answer.
What do I need to fit it to my car?
You need the car-specific frame for your vehicle, plus a sliding runner for fore-and-aft adjustment. Tell us your car and we will quote the complete fitting kit in one go. Our sliding runner guide covers the adjustment side.
Does it recline like a normal seat, and what about armrests?
Yes, the backrest reclines, which is the whole point of a sport recliner over a fixed bucket: support in the corners, comfort on the motorway, and access to rear seats. Armrests: not fitted on this model. Our recliner lineup comparison shows how the ranges stack up.
I am a bigger driver. Will it work for me?
Possibly, and it depends on the exact shell rather than the brand. We wrote a straight-talking guide on sport recliners for larger drivers from real showroom fittings, and if you send us your waist and height we will tell you honestly which recliners work at your size.
