We have added Willans harnesses to our range. Willans is one of the best known names in motorsport safety belts, and it is a British company, so it is a range we are very pleased to be able to offer.
At launch the range covers FIA approved harnesses for competition, road and track harnesses for track day cars, and versions made for Caterham and Westfield. We listed them in red, blue, black and silver.

Who Willans are
Willans was founded in 1967 by Major Willans, who was already making safety harnesses for the aircraft industry, and racing driver John Fenning, who wanted to make motor racing safer. They brought aircraft-style harnesses into motorsport, and Willans say their harnesses have since been used by 19 Formula 1 World Champions.
The harnesses are made in England. Their work has gone beyond racing cars too: Willans supplied the restraint systems for both of Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic Challenger powerboats in the 1980s, the second of which set a new record for crossing the Atlantic in 1986.
The range we have taken on runs from club harnesses to full FIA approved belts. That matters, because the right harness depends on what the car does. A competition car needs a harness with the approval its championship asks for, while a track day car on the road has a different set of needs.
Garreth's advice is to start with how the car is used and how the harness will be mounted, then pick the harness, not the other way round.
What is in the range
For competition there are FIA approved harnesses such as the Silverstone and the six point LDT6, with 3 inch shoulder straps and aircraft style buckles. For road and track use there are the Club harnesses, and the Supersport, which is ECE approved for the road and has 45mm straps and a clip buckle.
Willans also make versions specifically for the Caterham and the Westfield, where the harness mounting points are particular to the car. If you have one of those cars, those are the ones to look at first.

Choosing and fitting
Three questions settle most harness choices: how many points you need, how wide the shoulder straps should be, and whether you need an approval. Our guide to 3 inch or 2 inch shoulder straps explains the strap width question.
