Which Is Right For You? OMP Champ VS OMP ARS
Your questions, October 2022
We have both the OMP Champ-R and the OMP ARS-R on display in the showroom, and they are two of the seats we are asked to compare most. They look alike and share a lot, but they are shaped for different drivers.
The Champ is the narrower of the two at the legs and shoulders. The ARS is the wider fit. Here is how to tell which one suits you.
- Both on display in the showroom to try
- Both FIA 8855-1999, fibreglass, HANS compatible
- Both have five harness slots and removable lumbar and leg supports
- OMP Champ-R: narrower, listed for a 32 to 36 inch waist, under 6ft
- OMP ARS-R: wider, listed for a 36 to 38 inch waist, all heights
- Both are side mounted

What the two seats share
Both seats are built on a light, stiff fibreglass shell, both are approved to FIA 8855-1999, and both are HANS compatible, so they suit competition use. Each has five harness slots, which means a 4, 5 or 6 point harness can go through it properly.
Both also have a removable lumbar support and leg support, so the fit can be adjusted to the driver, and the trim is easier to clean. The side bolsters on each are medium height, giving secure support without making the seat hard to get in and out of.
The OMP Champ-R
The Champ-R is the narrower seat at the legs and shoulders. Its leg supports are taller and its shoulder supports smaller than the ARS, so it wraps closer round a slimmer driver.
Our listing sizes it for a 32 to 36 inch waist and drivers under 6ft, and gives its weight as 8.9 kg.

The OMP ARS-R
The ARS-R is the wider fit in OMP’s fibreglass range. It is trimmed in OMP’s Airtex fabric, which is made to breathe and let air through, with OMP branding on the headrest and leg support. Its bolsters are mid height and its shoulder supports are larger than the Champ’s.
Our listing sizes it for a 36 to 38 inch waist and all heights, so it is the one to look at if the Champ feels tight.

Which one should you buy?
Start with your waist. A slimmer driver will usually be held better in the Champ, and a broader driver will be more comfortable in the ARS. Height matters too, as the Champ is listed for drivers under 6ft.
Garreth’s advice is to sit in both if you can, and if not, send us your height and waist and we will tell you which one fits. Pairs of the Champ are on our Speed+ fast dispatch page. Both seats mount through their sides, and our guide to base mount or side mount explains what else you need.
