The useful differences sit around the legs, shoulders and trim. The Champ tends to feel narrower with a more pronounced thigh edge, while the ARS opens the fit out.
Our earlier showroom guide used waist bands, but bodies do not arrive in neat bands. Use the relative fit to choose which seat to try first, then judge the hips, thighs and shoulder height yourself.
Trouser size does not show hip shape, thigh size, torso length or where your shoulders meet the shell. Seat dimensions are a useful filter, not a substitute for sitting in it.
Check whether the thigh support helps or obstructs
Set the driver into both shells and work the pedals. Taller thigh sides can give welcome support or make entry and leg movement awkward. Check shoulder contact and the belt slots after the pelvis is settled.
The roomier driver fit also changes outer clearance
Measure the ARS and Champ at their widest points against the tunnel, door and cage. Add mounts and any runners. A lower mounting hole can move a shoulder clash rather than solve it, so test the chosen position.
Current product documents beat an old comparison
Trim names, weights and approvals can change across versions. Read the current OMP specification and physical label for the seats being supplied. Match the supports and restraint arrangement to that exact model and event.
Champ for a close fit; ARS where space is needed
Pick the Champ when its narrower shell supports the driver without leg pressure. Try the ARS when the driver needs more hip, thigh or shoulder room. If both compromise the driving position, widen the shortlist.
Champ and ARS questions
Is the larger ARS automatically more comfortable?▾
No. Extra room helps only when the driver needs it. Too much space reduces lateral support and can put the shoulders below or inside the wrong part of the shell.
Can I rely on the published dimensions?▾
Use them to rule out obvious problems, then measure the actual cockpit and sit in the seat. Padding and body shape change how the internal space feels.
Will the same side mounts fit both seats?▾
Check the current seat drawing, mounting pattern, approved supports and vehicle kit. Similar-looking shells do not guarantee an identical installation.
Should I buy the seat before planning the harness?▾
No. Seat openings, driver position, belt route, anchorages and any FHR use need planning together.
