Which Bucket Seats Will Fit My Fiesta ST150?
Seat fitting guide
The Fiesta ST150 is a favourite first track car and a quick road car, and the seat is usually the first thing owners want to change. The standard seats are fine for the commute, but on a circuit or a good back road they do not hold you, and you end up bracing against the tunnel with your left leg.
The good news is that the ST150 has more room inside than you might expect. Here is what fits, the difference between steel and fibreglass seats, and the sub-frames that bolt them to the car's own mounting points.
- The ST150 is listed on our site under the Fiesta Mk5
- We have fitted XL seats including the OMP WRC-R XL and Sparco Evo XL
- Cobra ST150 frames use a 291mm x 330mm pattern and include a runner
- OMP ST150 frames have 345mm x 271mm and 405mm x 290mm patterns
- Fibreglass FIA shells are side mount only; many steel seats can base mount

Why change the seats in an ST150
The ST150 ran from 2005 to 2008 with the 2.0-litre Duratec, and it built a real following in club racing and on track days. The standard seats are comfortable enough for road use, but they were not built for sustained cornering load. Push on and you slide about, and a driver who is holding themselves in place is not concentrating fully on the steering and brakes.
A proper bucket seat changes that. You get:
- a lower, more stable seating position
- side support that holds your hips and shoulders through a corner
- a clearer feel for what the car is doing
- a purposeful interior that suits the car
That can be a fixed-back FIA seat for a track car, or a sport recliner for a road car that still needs to carry passengers in the back. For the recliner route, our top five reclining seats for the Fiesta Mk5 ST150 covers the options.
Can larger bucket seats fit in an ST150?
Yes. The ST150 has taken some of the wider seats we sell. We have fitted these XL and large-shell seats in the car:
- OMP WRC-R XL, a fibreglass FIA seat and one of the widest shells we sell
- OMP TRS-E XL, a steel frame FIA seat
- Sparco Sprint L, the large steel Sprint
- Sparco Evo XL QRT, a fibreglass FIA seat
If the WRC-R XL goes in, most seats of a similar or smaller size will too. Even so, measure the gap between the tunnel and the sill before ordering, especially if you want two large seats side by side, and tell us the numbers if they look close.
Getting the shell size right for you matters as much as getting it into the car. Garreth’s advice is to send us your height, waist and hip measurements, or come and sit in the seats, before choosing between a standard and an XL shell.
Steel frame or fibreglass
Which kind of seat suits you comes down to how you use the car.
Steel frame seats, such as the Sparco Sprint and the OMP TRS-E, are a good fit for fast road and occasional track use. They are heavier than fibreglass and cost less. Some can be base mounted as well as side mounted: the Sparco Sprint does both, while the OMP TRS-E and TRS-E XL are side mount only.
Fibreglass seats, such as the OMP WRC-R and the Sparco Evo QRT, are built for motorsport. They are lighter and stiffer, many are FIA approved (check the model), and they are side mount only, so they need approved side mounts on top of the sub-frame.
Both kinds fit the ST150. The difference is in the hardware underneath.
This is what the finished job looks like in a Fiesta of this generation: an FIA seat on steel side mounts, sitting on a direct fit OMP sub-frame that bolts to the car's standard seat mounting points. Nothing is drilled in the floor, and the standard seat can go back in later.
You can read more about this car in our Sparco Sprint in a Fiesta Mk5 customer car post.

Choosing the right sub-frame
A direct fit sub-frame bolts to the ST150’s standard seat mounting points and gives the new seat a bolt pattern to sit on. Each brand’s frame suits different seats, so match the frame to the seat.
Cobra ST150 frames use Cobra’s 291mm x 330mm pattern, the standard pattern across most Cobra seats, and a sliding runner is included, so you keep fore and aft adjustment. They suit base-mounted Cobra seats and recliners. Other brands need adaption plates to sit on a Cobra frame. If you want to keep the factory seat belt with a road car, ask us about the Cobra frame, as it is the one we suggest for that.
OMP ST150 frames are steel and have two patterns from multi-hole clusters at each corner: 345mm x 271mm and 405mm x 290mm. The 345mm pattern suits base-mounted Sparco, OMP and Corbeau seats. The wider 405mm spacing is useful for side-mounted XL seats such as the OMP WRC-R XL or Sparco Evo XL, where the side mounts sit further apart. OMP frames are sold singly and handed, so order two for both sides. The ST150 frame is its own part and is not the same as the standard Mk5 frame, so check the car before you order.
OMP frames are aimed at competition use and do not give a mount for the factory seat belt buckle, as they expect a harness. That suits a track car. For a road car that keeps its standard belts, look at a frame with a buckle mount.

Roll cages for the ST150
If the car is heading for competition, a cage usually follows the seats. We list several bolt-in and weld-in cages for this generation of Fiesta, including the JP ST150 multipoint competition cage and the Custom Cages Mk5, Mk6 and ST150 international multipoint kit, as well as Safety Devices options.
Plan the seat and cage together. The cage’s door bars and main hoop decide how much room there is either side of the seat, and a harness needs the right mounting points behind you. For a competition car, check the seat, mounts, harness and cage with your scrutineer before the event.
Getting the right fit
The ST150 has room for a wide range of seats, from slim fibreglass shells to the OMP WRC-R XL. The steps are the same every time: pick a seat that fits you, decide on base or side mounting, then choose the frame with the right pattern. If you are unsure about any step, drop us an email or open a chat and we will put the combination together with you.
Will an XL bucket seat fit a Fiesta ST150?
Yes. We have fitted the OMP WRC-R XL, OMP TRS-E XL, Sparco Sprint L and Sparco Evo XL in the ST150.
Which sub-frame do I need for a Fiesta ST150?
A direct fit ST150 frame that matches your seat: Cobra frames for Cobra seats, or OMP frames with 345mm and 405mm patterns for other brands. Tell us the seat and we will confirm it.
Can I keep the factory seat belt with an OMP frame?
No. OMP frames do not carry a mount for the factory belt buckle, as they are designed for use with a harness.
Is the ST150 frame the same as the standard Fiesta Mk5 frame?
Not for OMP. The ST150 has its own part, and it is not interchangeable with the standard Mk5 frame.
Do fibreglass bucket seats need side mounts?
Yes. Fibreglass FIA seats are side mount only and need approved side mounts on top of the sub-frame.
