Which Bucket Seats Fit Your YXZ 1000R Off-Road Racer?
Off-road seat fitting guide
The Yamaha YXZ1000R is one of the liveliest machines in the side by side class. It has a 998cc three cylinder engine with a 10,500rpm redline, a five speed sequential manual gearbox (six speed with paddles on the SS Sport Shift version), FOX suspension and selectable 2WD and 4WD, and owners use them for everything from trail days to competitive off-road racing.
The factory seats are built for comfort and general use, so for more support and a proper harness setup, owners move to aftermarket buckets. The catch is space. The YXZ cockpit is far tighter than a 4x4 or SUV, so only compact seats fit. This guide covers what we have learned from customer builds, the seats we recommend, and how to choose between them.
- Our measurements put the YXZ cabin at around 1625mm wide across both seats
- That leaves roughly 550mm per seat once the centre console is allowed for
- The Mirco RS2 has fitted well in customer YXZ builds, and the tighter RS1 goes in too
- Compact steel seats: Sparco Sprint, Cobra Monaco Pro, OMP TRS-E
- Compact fibreglass seats: Mirco GT, Sparco Grid Q, Sparco Evo QRT
- Vinyl trim is the practical choice for an open, muddy cockpit

How much room there is in a YXZ
Space is the whole question with a YXZ. Our measurements put the total cabin width at around 64 inches, roughly 1625mm, across both seats and the centre console. That works out at about 550mm of width available for each seat once the console is allowed for, which rules out most full size buckets straight away.
So when you shortlist seats, keep the overall width at or under about 550mm, and check the height and shape against the roll cage as well. The seat has to clear the cage tubes, leave room for your shoulders and helmet, and still line up with the harness mounting points.
Customer builds gave us a solid reference point. We now know the Mirco RS2 fits the YXZ 1000R well, and because the RS1 is a tighter shell of the same family, it goes in just as easily. From there we can pick out other steel and fibreglass seats that fall within the same key measurements.
Mirco RS2 and RS1 bucket seats
The Mirco RS2 and RS1 are fibreglass bucket seats homologated to FIA 8855-1999. Their wrap around bolsters, head support and shoulder shaping hold you firmly in place, which cuts fatigue and movement over rough ground.
The RS2 is the roomier of the two and the one our team has sat in the most. The RS1 is a tighter shell with lateral head support, for smaller drivers or where a little more clearance helps. Both are listed for a 32 to 36 inch waist, both are side mount seats, and both take four or six point harnesses and are HANS friendly.

What sets Mirco apart is the choice. Mirco quote more than 250 combinations of trim, stitching, shell colour and embroidery, so the seats can match the car. For a YXZ, we recommend the vinyl trim: it is tough, handles the weather and wipes clean after a day in mud or dust.
- Homologated to FIA 8855-1999
- Fibreglass shell
- Four and six point harness compatible, HANS friendly
- Integrated head and shoulder support
- Vinyl, velour and 3D Spacer fabric trims, with custom stitching, shell colours and embroidery
We list the RS2 and RS1 in 3D Spacer fabric, velour and vinyl, alongside limited edition versions with custom options already applied.

Steel frame bucket seat options
Steel frame buckets are durable and usually cost less than fibreglass, which suits the YXZ’s hard life. Each of these is also offered in a vinyl trim, which is the better choice for an open cockpit that sees the weather.
Sparco Sprint
A classic motorsport seat with a steel frame and a compact shape that suits the YXZ cabin. It is homologated to FIA 8855-1999, six point harness compatible and HANS friendly, and it can be base mounted or side mounted. The vinyl version is the Sprint Sky.
Cobra Monaco Pro
Good support at a sensible price, with deep side bolsters and an integrated headrest. It is FIA 8855-1999 homologated, takes four or six point harnesses, and can be side or base mounted. A vinyl version is available.
OMP TRS-E
A versatile steel framed FIA 8855-1999 seat that balances comfort and support, compact enough for the YXZ. The vinyl version, the TRS-E Sky, is trimmed in black synthetic leather, takes four or six point harnesses and can be base or side mounted.

Fibreglass bucket seat options
For a lighter seat, a fibreglass shell is the way to go. These are side mount seats, so side mounts and a frame are chosen alongside them.
Mirco GT
A snug, compact FIA 8855-1999 shell with deep side bolsters, listed for a 32 to 36 inch waist. The 3D fabric version breathes well, and there is a vinyl version for better protection against the elements.
Sparco Grid Q
A fibreglass FIA seat made for tight cockpits, with modular padding so the fit can be adjusted. It is six point harness compatible and HANS friendly. The vinyl version is the Grid Q Sky.
Sparco Evo QRT
Built with Sparco’s QRT process for a lighter shell, with a supportive shape and FIA 8855-1999 homologation. The Evo QRT Sky is the vinyl version for dirt and moisture.

Vinyl or fabric trim
The YXZ has an open cockpit, so the seats see dust, mud and rain. Vinyl has clear advantages here:
- It wipes clean quickly after a muddy run
- It resists moisture, so it does not hold water
- It keeps its appearance well over time
Fabric breathes better and can be more comfortable on a hot day, but it needs more looking after in off-road conditions. For most YXZ owners vinyl is the practical choice. Our guide to fabric or vinyl bucket seats goes into more detail.
Steel or fibreglass
The shell material changes the weight, the feel and the price.
Steel frame seats are generally more affordable and very durable, but heavier. They suit casual off-roading and tighter budgets.
Fibreglass shell seats are lighter and stiffer, which gives more feedback, but they usually cost more. They are the usual choice for competitive, performance focused builds.
Pick the one that matches how you use the car and what you want to spend. If you are racing, check your series rules for the seat approval they ask for.
Previous customer builds
We have supplied Mirco RS2 seats for several YXZ 1000R builds, and they look at home in the car. The compact shell slots into the tight cabin without getting in the way of comfort or visibility.
Some owners have gone for vinyl with contrast stitching to match the cage or the bodywork, which gives the build a finished look. A common setup pairs the RS2 with a four or six point harness. If you are fitting harnesses yourself, our guide on how to fit a motorsport harness covers the angles and anchor points.
Finding the right fit
The Mirco RS2 and RS1 are the two seats we know fit the YXZ 1000R well. Other narrow FIA buckets from Sparco, OMP or Cobra may work too if they stay within similar dimensions. Before ordering, double check the cockpit width, the roll cage layout and the mounting space you have.
Garreth’s advice is to measure your cabin, then send us the figures with your height and waist. We can then advise on the seats, side mounts, frames and harnesses to go with them, so the whole setup is safe and secure.
What is the widest seat that fits a Yamaha YXZ1000R?
Our measurements leave roughly 550mm of width per seat, so keep the seat at or under about that and check it against the cage.
Does the Mirco RS2 fit the YXZ1000R?
Yes. It has fitted well in customer YXZ builds, and the tighter Mirco RS1 fits too.
Should I choose vinyl or fabric for a YXZ?
Vinyl is usually the better choice, because it wipes clean and copes with mud, dust and rain in an open cockpit.
Are these seats FIA approved?
The seats named here are homologated to FIA 8855-1999, with the expiry on each seat’s label.
Can the Sparco Sprint be side mounted?
Yes. The Sprint can be base mounted or side mounted.
