What Fitting Kit Do I Need For OMP RT Seats In My BMW M2?

Customer question, OMP RT seats in a BMW M2 track car

M2 owners ask us what they need to fit a pair of OMP RT seats to a track car, and it is a short list. The seats are the OMP RT in Alcantara and the fitting kit is the PCI Racing sliding sub frames for the M2. That is the whole shopping list.

Here is the setup, with the prices.

  • The seats are a pair of OMP RT in Alcantara, £1,415.93 inc VAT, approved to FIA 8855-1999
  • The fitting kit is a pair of PCI Racing M2 sliding sub frames, £660.00 inc VAT
  • The frames come with their own side mounts and a belt buckle clip, so you do not buy side mounts separately
  • They bolt to the factory seat mounting points, with nothing drilled, and the original seats go back in when you sell
  • A pair of seats and a pair of frames is £2,075.93 inc VAT, and one seat and one frame is £1,037.96 inc VAT
  • The frames are right hand drive, so pick driver side or passenger side

The setup, from the floor up

It is a simple stack. The PCI frame bolts to the original floor mounting points. The OMP RT then bolts onto the side mounts that come on the frame.

That is why it is an all-in-one kit. Every bucket seat needs side mounts, and the PCI frame comes with them. It also has a belt buckle clip, for a harness or the car’s factory seatbelt clip.

The frame is laser cut and CNC formed from a single piece of 1/8 inch carbon steel with a gloss black powder coat and grade 10.9 8mm hardware. It has five and six point sub belt mounting locations built in. That saves you fabricating a crotch strap anchor.

Why the OMP RT

OMP describe the RT as street friendly, and that is the useful thing to know. It is a fixed back competition shell with bolsters that hold you without you having to climb over them, so it suits an M2 that you also drive to the circuit. It is approved to FIA 8855-1999, HANS friendly, and takes 4 and 6 point harnesses.

OMP list it for all heights across a 32 to 36 inch waist, and it has no head support. Alcantara grips more than a smooth trim, which matters on a fixed back shell because the bolsters hold you sideways. It marks more easily than vinyl, so brush it and do not wipe it, which is fine in a circuit car.

Garreth: Go for the sliding frame. The seat moves fore and aft after it is fitted. That matters when someone else drives it or when you are getting kit in and out.

Cameron: If it is a pure track car and the seat will never move, I would ask about PCI’s adjustable mounts, because they give a lower fitment than the slider.

Garreth: That is a fair point. We are happy to check whether one is made for the M2. For most owners the slider is the simple answer, and its four bolt S1 mounting is rated by PCI as twice as strong as a two bolt slider.

Cameron: Fine by me, as long as the owner knows the choice exists. A one driver car is where the lower fitment pays off.

Garreth: And if the car is shared, the slider wins every time.

Cameron: Agreed. Tell us how the car gets used and we will say which way to go.

What it costs

This is the setup we would quote, with every price including VAT.

OMP RT bucket seat, fibreglass shell in Alcantara£707.96£1,415.93 (the 2 seats listing)
PCI Racing BMW M2 sliding sub frame, side mounts, slider and belt buckle clip included. Choose driver or passenger side.£330.00£660.00 (the 2 frames listing)
Seat and frame together£1,037.96£2,075.93

The listings are for the M2 in right hand drive. If you have the newer G87 M2, ask us before you order, so we can confirm the frame against your car. Ask us to read the manufacture date off current stock for the seats as well, since an FIA seat’s expiry date is set by when it was built.

How the fitting goes

The PCI frame bolts to the factory seat mounting points. Nothing is drilled and the standard M2 seats come out whole. Keep them, because on this car they are worth money at sale time.

Tell us about side airbags in the factory seats before anything comes out, because an M2 this recent has them fitted. Start every bolt by hand and sit in the car. Torque it all down, and recheck the bolts after your first track session.

Our bucket seat mounting guide explains base mount against side mount, and our BMW M2 seat guide and fixed competition seat guide cover the other seats that suit the car.

One seat or a pair

The 2 seats listing is the same price as two single seats, £1,415.93, so there is no saving either way. The frames are handed. You can fit the driver side now and add the passenger side later.

An M2 with a competition seat on the driver side and a standard seat on the passenger side looks unfinished and is awkward to live with. That is why most people take the pair. Drop us an email or click to open a chat if you want it checked against your car.

Questions about OMP RT seats in an M2
