TRS Carbon Footwells Now Available In-Store, Our In-Depth Review

Rally equipment, January 2025

TRS carbon footwells are now in the showroom, both the combined driver and co-driver package and the navigator's footwell on its own. They are one of those parts that make a real difference in a stripped competition car and that most people only think about once the carpet has come out.

We have had them out of the box and had a good look. Here is what each one is, what they do, and what to check before you order.

  • TRS carbon footwells for the driver and the co-driver, now in the showroom
  • Combined package part number 23P5120; navigator's footwell MA510-0001
  • Carbon fibre with textured non-slip grip pads
  • Driver's footwell: 43cm high by 40cm wide
  • Co-driver's footwell: 19cm high, 39cm wide, 47cm long
  • Universal fit; the co-driver's unit suits front and rear wheel drive cars

What a footwell does

When a competition car is stripped, the carpet and sound deadening come out and the feet end up on bare metal. That is slippery with wet or muddy boots, it changes where the heel sits relative to the pedals, and it leaves the co-driver with nothing firm to brace against.

A carbon footwell puts a shaped, grippy surface back in the footwell. TRS make them from carbon fibre with textured non-slip pads, so they add very little weight and give the feet something to hold on to under braking and over rough ground.

The combined driver and co-driver package

The package, part number 23P5120, puts both footwells together. The driver's footwell measures 43cm high by 40cm wide. It raises the heel slightly, to about where it would sit with the standard carpet in, which helps keep a natural pedal angle once the floor has been stripped. Its raised grip sections also give the heel something to pivot on for heel and toe.

If you need both positions, the package works out cheaper than buying the two separately. No fitting hardware is included; both are bonded or fastened directly to the floor.

The combined package: the co-driver's footwell (left) and the driver's footwell (right).

The navigator’s footwell, part number MA510-0001, is also sold on its own. It is a one piece carbon panel that combines a flat floor section with a raised footrest, measuring 19cm high, 39cm wide and 47cm long, with non-slip pads on the grip surfaces so the co-driver’s feet stay put with wet footwear.

TRS redesigned it to be 102mm narrower than the original version, so that it clears the transmission tunnel in front wheel drive cars as well as rear wheel drive ones. If you already have an older one and are moving it to a front wheel drive car, measure the width against the tunnel first.

What to check before ordering

Both footwells are universal, not cut for a particular car, so the job is to make sure they suit yours. Measure the floor area in each footwell and compare it with the dimensions above, paying attention to the width where the transmission tunnel comes in. In the co-driver’s position, check where their feet naturally sit with the seat in its final position before bonding the footwell in place.

Garreth’s advice is to fit the seats first and the footwells last. The seat position decides where the feet end up, and once a footwell is bonded in, moving it is not a quick job.

The driver’s is 43cm high by 40cm wide; the co-driver’s is 19cm high, 39cm wide and 47cm long.

TRS made it 102mm narrower than the original so it suits front and rear wheel drive cars, but measure your tunnel to be sure.

No. They are universal, so check the dimensions against your floor before ordering.

No. The footwells are bonded or fastened directly to the floor.
