Does A Toyota Aygo Roll Cage Fit The 5-Door? Which Cage Suits Which Shell

A customer asked whether the Safety Devices 6 point bolt-in rear cross cage for the Toyota Aygo fits the 5-door shell, and if not, whether there's a 5-door version. For that cage it's no on both counts: the listing says it's for the 3-door shell only, and the maker doesn't make a 5-door version of it. Cameron has been through every other Aygo cage we list to see what that leaves you with.

  • Prices read from the live site, inc VAT
  • Every Aygo cage we list is covered, from three makers
  • Door counts quoted as each listing gives them

Count the doors before you choose the cage: the Aygo comes as a 3-door and a 5-door.
The short answer

No, and there is no 5-door version of this cage

£588inc VAT

The listing says: for the Toyota Aygo 3-door shell only (2005 to 2014). The maker does not make a 5-door version of this cage, so it is not suitable for the 5-door Aygo.

  • The Safety Devices Aygo cages we checked are all listed for the 3-door shell, 2005 to 2014
  • The maker does not make a 5-door version of the rear cross cage
  • The SW Motorsports Aygo cage is listed as 3dr as well
  • The two Custom Cages Aygo listings give no door count, so we'd check with the maker before you order

The cage you asked about is a 3-door cage

The Safety Devices Toyota Aygo 6 Point Bolt-In Rear Cross Roll Cage is £588.00 inc VAT. It’s a rear cage with a cross diagonal and harness bar, and the listing says it may be used alone. That same listing answers your question: it’s for the 3-door shell only, and it’s not suitable for the 5-door Aygo.

The Safety Devices full cages we checked say the same thing. The No Roof Cross and the Cross Door Bars versions both read Aygo (2005 to 2014) 3-door, with the make and model listed as Toyota Aygo 3dr. So if you want a straight yes or no on a Safety Devices cage for a 5-door, it’s no.

Why a cage is built for one shell

A roll cage isn’t a universal tube kit, and each of these listings describes a part drawn for one body. SW Motorsports say their kits are designed from 3D scans of the shell, with tubes pre-notched and foot plates laser cut and contoured to the body. Custom Cages supply pre-cut tubes with profiled ends and foot plates that are welded to the car. Safety Devices list each Aygo cage as built specifically for this shell.

So a 3-door and a 5-door Aygo can share a name and still need different cages. Cameron wouldn’t try to make a 3-door cage work on a 5-door car. You’d be reworking a part drawn for another body, and on this one the maker has already said in the listing that it isn’t suitable.

Count the doors firstThe listings use 3-door and 5-door to mean the body, so tell us which one you have, as well as the year. Every Safety Devices Aygo listing we checked gives 2005 to 2014.

What each Aygo cage listing says about doors

We list five cages for the Aygo: the Safety Devices rear cross cage and full bolt-in cage, the SW Motorsports full bolt-in cage, and two Custom Cages kits.

A blank means the listing does not give a make and model. From means the lowest price across the options on the listing. Prices include VAT and are read from the live site.

What is left for a 5-door Aygo

None of the Aygo cages we list is down as a 5-door cage. Safety Devices and SW Motorsports both say 3-door. That leaves the two Custom Cages Aygo kits, whose listings say the cage is built for this shell but don’t give a door count, so we can’t tell you they fit a 5-door.

If yours is a 5-door, tell us. Cameron will ask Custom Cages whether the kit is drawn for your body before you spend anything. Garreth wouldn’t order a weld-in cage on a maybe, and he’d tell you not to either.

The Custom Cages Toyota Aygo T45 Roll Cage is a multipoint cage in T45 steel. The listing says it is built specifically for this shell and describes the kit as CNC formed tubes, straight tubes with profiled ends ready for welding into place, and a set of foot plates. The listing names no door count and no years.

It is the cheaper of the two Custom Cages kits at £1,590.00, and we would ask the maker about the 5-door before you order it.

  • £1,590.00 inc VAT
  • Custom Cages part TA06, T45 multipoint
  • Tubes profiled for welding, foot plates included
  • Door count not stated on the listing

Product cards show prices excluding VAT. Prices in the text include VAT.

The Custom Cages Toyota Aygo International Multipoint T45 Roll Cage Kit is listed as weld-in and FIA approved. The summary says it is built specifically for this shell. The description text names the Suzuki Swift (2004 to 2010) as the model it is designed for, so that is one more reason Cameron wants the maker’s confirmation before this one is ordered for any Aygo.

It costs £228.30 more than the other Custom Cages kit, and the listing does not say what the extra money buys. Garreth would want that answered too.

  • £1,818.30 inc VAT
  • Custom Cages part TA/06, T45 multipoint, weld-in
  • FIA Approved, MSUK Compliant
  • Door count not stated on the listing

If your Aygo is a 3-door: three cages that fit the shell

With a 3-door car the question is how much cage you want. The Safety Devices rear cross cage is the lightest option, a bolt-in rear cage with a cross diagonal and harness bar. The Safety Devices full cage puts a front cage with that rear cage, and the SW Motorsports cage is a full bolt-in MSUK cage with 45mm x 2.5mm CDS for the main structure.

The SW listing says the cage passes through the dash, which has to be cut and trimmed, and that it is not suitable for cars with a factory sliding sunroof. Our SW Motorsports Toyota roll cage guide covers the same range, including the Aygo 3 door.

Still not sure which shell you have?Drop us an email or click to open a chat, tell us the year and whether it has three or five doors, and Cameron will confirm which of these listings applies.

Common questions

No, the listing says it is for the Toyota Aygo 3-door shell only, 2005 to 2014, and that it is not suitable for the 5-door Aygo.

The listing says the maker doesn’t make a 5-door version of this cage, and the full cages we checked are listed as 3-door too, so Safety Devices isn’t the route for a 5-door Aygo.

Cameron wouldn’t try it. The cage is built for one shell, and the maker’s own listing says this one isn’t suitable for the 5-door. Send us the car’s details and we’ll point you at a cage whose listing supports it.

The listings do not say. Neither gives a door count, and one description names the Suzuki Swift. Tell us it is a 5-door and Cameron checks with the maker before you order.

The listing says the rear cage may be used alone. The front cage and any door bars must be used with a rear cage, which is why the rear is the starting point for the bolt-in range. Garreth would rather you start there and add to it than buy the full cage on day one.

The listing says it is not suitable for vehicles with a factory-fitted sliding sunroof, and that the dash needs cutting and trimming. If you have any doubt about fitment, give us a call and Cameron will go through it with you.

It is from £1,344.00 inc VAT, and the listing has colour options and a rear cross gusset option, so open it and choose to see the exact price for your set up.

What we would buy

G

Garreth

What I would buy

For a 3-door Aygo I would take the Safety Devices rear cross cage at £588.00 as the starting point, and add to it later if the car needs more. For a 5-door I would not buy a 3-door cage, and I would not order either Custom Cages kit until the maker has confirmed the door count.

If the answer comes back yes, I would ask about the £1,590.00 T45 cage first.

Cameron

What I'd check on this one

I'd want the door count and the year first, because every listing here is built round a shell, and on the SW cage I'd also check the sunroof and the dash.

Where we disagree is the Custom Cages pair. Garreth would ask about the cheaper one only. I would ask about both, because one description names the Suzuki Swift and I would want to know why before choosing.

Have a 5-door Aygo and want a cage?

Tell us the year and that it's a five-door. Cally, our digital receptionist, will take your details. Cameron then comes back to you with what the makers say, before you order anything.
