The 2025 Sparco Sprint Now On Display At GSM Performance
New in the showroom, January 2025
The 2025 Sparco Sprint has arrived, and for the first time we have it in stock and on display in the showroom. The Sprint is Sparco's entry FIA bucket seat, and the 2025 version brings a refreshed look with new stitching and panels on the same simple idea.
Sparco has also added two versions alongside it: the Sprint L for bigger drivers and the Sprint Sky in vinyl. Here is what the Sprint is, how it compares with a fibreglass seat, and who each version suits.
- Sparco's entry FIA bucket seat, homologated to FIA 8855-1999
- Steel shell, velour trim, six point harness slots, HANS friendly
- Takes both base mounting and side mounting
- Standard Sprint listed for a 32 to 36 inch waist
- Sprint L for a 40 to 42 inch waist, Sprint Sky in black vinyl

What the 2025 Sprint is
The Sprint (part number BRR0003B0) has been Sparco’s most affordable FIA homologated bucket seat for years, and it is one of the seats we are asked about most by people building their first track or club race car. It is homologated to FIA 8855-1999.
Where most competition seats are fibreglass, the Sprint uses a steel shell. That makes it heavier, but it keeps the cost down, and it is the reason the seat sits where it does in the range. The 2025 version has a fresh velour cover with new stitch lines and textured side panels, six point harness slots and a shape that works with a HANS device. There are no head support wings.
It is also flexible to mount. The Sprint takes both base mounting and side mounting, so it can go on a car specific subframe or on side mounts to a frame. For side mounting it needs the Sparco FIA steel mounts, which are sold separately.
Close up, the changes are in the trim. The backrest has chevron stitching and a Sprint badge, and the bolsters and cushion get a textured grey material where the wear is heaviest.
The shoulder harness slots have moulded surrounds, and the seat is slotted for a six point harness.

Steel shell or fibreglass?
This is the question we get most with the Sprint. Both kinds of seat can carry FIA homologation, so the choice usually comes down to weight, budget and what your series asks for.
| Steel shell (Sprint) | Fibreglass shell | |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | Heavier | Lighter |
| Cost | Lower, the budget route to an FIA seat | Higher |
| Knocks | Less likely to be written off by a minor knock | Needs checking after any impact |
| Regulations | Check if your series sets a seat material or weight | Suits series that scrutinise weight |
For a track day car, a hillclimb car or a club racer where the budget matters most, the steel Sprint makes a lot of sense. If you are chasing weight, a fibreglass seat is the step up. Either way, check your championship regulations before you order.
On display in the showroom
This is the first time we have had the Sprint in stock and out on the floor, and it matters because a bucket seat is a very personal fit. You can sit in it, feel how the bolsters hold you and compare it with the fibreglass seats on the display next to it.
Garreth’s advice with any fixed back seat is to try it before you buy if you can. If you cannot get to us, send us your height and waist and we will tell you honestly whether the Sprint is the right shape for you, and what you will need to mount it in your car.
Who the standard Sprint suits
The standard Sprint is listed for drivers with a 32 to 36 inch waist. It is a compact seat, which is why it is a popular choice for smaller track cars, and we already sell Sprint packages with car specific frames for cars such as the Mk3 Mazda MX-5.
Whether it fits your car is a question for the frame, not just the seat. Tell us the make, model and year and we will check which subframes or side mount frames are listed for it before you order anything.
Full seat dimensions are on the listing, so you can measure your space before you commit.

The Sprint L and the Sprint Sky
Sprint L. The large shell version, for drivers with a 40 to 42 inch waist. It is the same steel shell seat with the same FIA homologation, harness slots and base or side mounting, cut wider and deeper for bigger drivers.
Sprint Sky. The Sprint in black vinyl in place of velour. Vinyl wipes clean and copes better with wet weekends, so it suits open cars and anything that sees rain in the cockpit.
Between the three, most drivers looking for an affordable FIA seat will find a Sprint that fits them.
What FIA approval does the Sparco Sprint have?
It is homologated to FIA 8855-1999.
Is the Sparco Sprint base mount or side mount?
Both. It takes base mounting on a subframe, or side mounting with the Sparco FIA steel side mounts.
What waist size is the Sparco Sprint for?
The standard Sprint is listed for a 32 to 36 inch waist and the Sprint L for a 40 to 42 inch waist.
What is the Sparco Sprint Sky?
The Sprint trimmed in black vinyl in place of velour, which is easier to wipe clean and suits open cars.
Why is the Sprint cheaper than a fibreglass seat?
It uses a steel shell, which is heavier but cheaper to make than fibreglass.
