Safety Devices Ford Capri Roll Cages Updated For 2023

Roll cage news, May 2023

Our Safety Devices roll cages for the Ford Capri have just been updated for 2023. There are four cages in the range, one for each Capri shell: the Mk1 built before 1972, the Mk1 built from 1972, and the Mk2 and Mk3 with and without a sunroof.

All four are 6 point bolt-in cages, and every listing now sets out the options clearly: the rear cage designs, the door bars and the colour. Here is what the update covers.

  • Safety Devices bolt-in cages for the Capri Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3
  • Separate cages for the Mk1 before and after 1972, and for the Mk2 and Mk3 with or without a sunroof
  • 6 point cages that mount to the floor and rear wheel arches
  • A rear cage version of every full cage, new for 2023
  • Black powder coat as standard; grey, charcoal grey, silver, white or red to order
  • Listed as Motorsport UK and FIA homologated

Four cages for four shells

The Capri changed enough over its life that one cage will not fit them all. The Mk1 has two cages: one for the coupe built from 1969 to 1972, and one for the car built from 1972 to 1974. The Mk2, built from 1974 to 1978, and the Mk3, built from 1978 to 1986, share a shell, but the sunroof matters, so there is one cage for cars without a sunroof and one for cars with.

Each is a 6 point bolt-in cage that mounts to the floor and rear wheel arches. On the Mk1 the cages clear the normal trim and dashboard; on the Mk2 and Mk3 the front cage needs a slight change to the dashboard on the driver’s side. Every listing gives the Safety Devices cage number and part numbers, so it is clear what you are ordering.

Full cages and door bars

A full Capri cage is made up of a front cage, a rear cage and universal door bars. The front section cannot be used on its own; it goes with a rear cage. The door bars are one per side and need the front and rear cage together, so you can have the cage with them or without.

The cages come in black powder coat as standard, with grey, charcoal grey, silver, white and red to order, or unpainted by special request. If you are after another colour, ask us and we will see what can be done.

Rear cages on their own

From this update, every Capri cage has a rear cage version listed that can be used without the front section or door bars. There are three designs: a single fixed diagonal, a single fixed diagonal with a harness bar, or a cross diagonal with a harness bar.

For a Capri that goes to shows and the odd track day, a rear cage with a harness bar gives the harness a proper mounting point without filling the front of the cabin. Garreth’s advice is to decide how the car will be used before choosing the sections, and to check your championship’s cage rules if you compete. Our guide to roll cages for track cars goes through the choices.
