Renault Clio 182 Fitted With Mirco Seats And TRS Harnesses

A customer has just sent us photos of their Renault Clio 182, and it has come out really well. The standard seats are gone, replaced by a pair of Mirco RTS-2 3D bucket seats, with TRS Magnum 6 point harnesses in bright red wrapped around a red roll cage.
It is a setup we are asked about a lot for the 182, so here is what went in, and what you need if you want to do the same to yours.

The customer's Clio 182
The car is a blue Clio 182. The interior has a red multi point roll cage, and the seats and harnesses were picked to go with it: black Mirco shells with blue logos and stitching, and red TRS harnesses to match the cage.
The rear seats are out and the boot floor is carpeted, which leaves room for the cage’s rear legs and the harness straps to come back cleanly over the cage bar.
From the back you can see how the harnesses are mounted. The shoulder straps loop over the cross bar of the cage, and the lap and crutch straps go to the floor.
Wrapping the shoulder straps around a cage bar is one of the two accepted ways to fit a TRS Magnum; the other is snap hooks onto eyebolts. With a cage in the car, the wrap is often the neatest way to get the straps at the right angle to your shoulders.
The Mirco RTS-2 3D seats
The RTS-2 3D is Mirco’s fibreglass fixed back bucket seat, approved to FIA 8855-1999, trimmed in their 3D SpaceTech mesh. The mesh runs cooler than velour, which is noticeable on a warm track day. It takes a 4 or 6 point harness, it is HANS friendly, and it comes in two widths, for 32 to 36 inch and 36 to 40 inch waists.
Mirco build to order, so the mesh can be done in different colours and the shell can be coloured too. This customer went for black with blue, which suits the blue Clio very well.

The TRS Magnum 6 point harnesses
TRS make their harnesses in Doncaster, and the Magnum 6 point is their core FIA harness, approved to FIA 8853-2016. All of the straps are 3 inch webbing, and it releases with a quarter turn of the rotary buckle. The two crutch straps are what stop you sliding under the lap belt in a heavy stop, and they are why a 6 point is the one to have with a HANS device.
The Magnum comes in a range of colours, and red was the obvious choice here.
Fitting the same to your 182
The RTS-2 is a side mount seat, so it needs a pair of side mounts and a subframe for the Clio. There are direct fit frames for the 182 from Sparco, Corbeau and OMP, all using the factory seat mounting points. The Sparco and Corbeau frames share the same mounting points and suit narrow buckets and reclining sports seats. We tend to use the OMP frames for motorsport seats, because they can take a wider bolt pattern.
Add a pair of sliding runners between the frame and the side mounts if you want to move the seat forward and back. Garreth’s advice is to tell us your waist size and which harness mounting you plan to use before you order, and we will put the whole set together.
