The Recaro Profi SPG XL is back. After a long gap in supply, when Recaro's production and distribution were being reorganised, the SPG XL disappeared from stock altogether, and it became one of the seats we were asked about most with nothing to offer. New seats have now landed in our showroom from the first production run since 2024.
It is also back on display, so for the first time in a long while you can come and sit in one, try it for size and compare it with the other seats on the floor. This post covers what the SPG XL is, how it measures up and how it is mounted.

Back after a long wait
When Recaro’s supply was disrupted in 2024, the SPG XL was one of the seats hit hardest. It simply stopped arriving, and for a long time we could not give anyone a date. We covered the start of the recovery earlier in the year when Recaro restarted seat production, and the SPG XL has now followed.
For anyone who has been waiting to match a seat they already have, or to put a wider FIA Recaro in a new build, this is the first real chance to get one in a long time. The black velour version is in, and it is on display next to the rest of the Recaro range.
The Profi SPG XL
The Profi SPG XL is Recaro’s large competition seat, made for drivers who do not fit the standard Profi SPG or the Pole Position because of their height or build. The shell is 65mm taller and 35mm wider than the standard SPG, which gives more room through the hips and shoulders while keeping the support of a proper race seat.
- Glass fibre shell, fixed back, around 10kg
- Perlon velour trim, in black or red
- FIA 8855-1999, valid from the production date on the label inside the shell
- Takes a 4, 5 or 6 point harness
- No head wings, so the shoulders stay open and getting in and out is easier
- Side mount, supplied as the seat only
In Recaro’s range it sits above the Pole Position FIA and below the Pro Racer SPG HANS. The Profi SPG family is aimed at club and national rally, and the XL exists to serve drivers the standard seats leave out.
It is the seat we suggest when a standard SPG, a Pole Position or something similar feels too tight. Sitting in one is the only way to be sure, which is why having it back on display matters.

Mounting the SPG XL
The SPG XL is a side mount seat, so it does not sit on base runners. Recaro homologate their race seats together with their own side mounts as one system, so the FIA label goes with Recaro side mounts, and that is what we fit these seats on. Recaro make more than one side mount for their race seats, so tell us the exact seat and we will confirm the right part.
The side mounts then need a bracket that bolts to the car’s floor. For Recaro seats we use Planted Technology vehicle specific brackets, which take the wide 405mm Recaro spacing and bolt to the factory mounting points. Recaro and Corbeau fittings are not interchangeable, so do not plan the installation around a frame or runner made for another brand.
For motorsport or serious track use, mount the seat fixed. Runners are fine on a road car or for the odd track day, but a fixed seat is the strongest installation and removes any movement under hard braking or cornering.
Is the Recaro SPG XL available again?
Yes. In December 2025 the first SPG XL seats since 2024 arrived, and one is on display in our showroom.
Is the SPG XL FIA approved?
Yes. It is homologated to FIA 8855-1999, valid from the date on the seat’s label.
How much bigger is the XL than the standard SPG?
The XL shell is 65mm taller and 35mm wider than the standard Profi SPG.
What harness does it take?
A 4, 5 or 6 point harness.
What do I need to mount it?
