Real Race Inserts 2022 Update
Seat insert news, January 2022
We have updated our whole Real Race range for 2022. That covers the poly-bead resin seat insert kits, from 15 litres up to 110 litres, and the seat accessories that go with them.
Each insert kit now has bundle items on its listing, picked to suit it. The ones that matter most are the lumbar pads and the vacuum pump, so the pieces you need to make and finish an insert can go in the same order.

What is on this page
What a Real Race insert does
A seat insert fills the space between the driver and the seat shell, moulded to the driver’s own shape. The aim is simple: a driver who is held firmly and comfortably can concentrate on driving, and sits in exactly the same place every time they get in the car.
Real Race are known for their insert technology and their bespoke insert fitting service. A finished Real Race insert is covered in fire retardant fabric, and it can be supplied branded with a driver or team name, a national flag or a sponsor’s logo.
The poly-bead resin kits
The kits let you make an insert yourself. A liner goes into the seat, the driver settles into position, and a mix of small poly-beads and slow curing resin fills the liner around them. A vacuum pump then draws the air out so the liner holds that shape while the resin cures.
The kits run from 15 litres up to 110 litres. The size is about the volume you need to fill: a snug seat and a slim driver need far less than a large shell with a lot of space around the body. Each kit also includes the fabric and adhesive to cover the finished insert.

Lumbar pads and the vacuum pump
The Real Race 3 cell lumbar pad sits behind the back cushion and has three separate air cells. While it is being inflated the driver can lean on it to push the air to the cells that need it, so the support ends up where your back wants it. There is a single cell pad too, for support at one height.
The Real Race vacuum pump and hose is made to work with the insert kits. It can be worked by hand or by foot, and it lets you control how quickly the vacuum is drawn on the liner, which is why we have bundled it with the kits. Garreth’s advice is to have the pump ready before you start mixing, because the resin does not wait.

Do I need a vacuum pump to make an insert?
Yes. The vacuum holds the liner to your shape while the resin cures, and the Real Race pump is made for the kits.
What does the 3 cell lumbar pad do?
It has three separate air cells, so the driver can direct the air to where the lower back needs support.
