OMP TRS-X Bucket Seats Arrive In-Store
In the showroom, February 2022
A pair of OMP TRS-X bucket seats has just arrived at GSM, and they are on display in our showroom ready to sit in. The pair is also available to dispatch or collect from the showroom.
We like the look of this one. The fluorescent yellow harness slot surrounds and piping run all over the black trim, which is not something you usually see on a steel framed seat.

What the TRS-X is
The OMP TRS-X is a steel framed bucket seat, newly developed as a clubman competition seat and approved to FIA 8855-1999. A tubular steel frame, in place of a moulded composite shell, is what keeps an FIA homologated seat at this price.
OMP designed it to suit drivers of different builds. The harness slots are larger than usual, which helps taller and shorter drivers get the shoulder straps at the right height. The outside of the seat is narrow, so it fits in slim cars, while the inside keeps a sensible width for a broader driver. That makes it suitable for narrow cars as well as average sized ones.
Up close, the yellow harness slot surround carries an OMP logo moulded into it, and the fluorescent piping follows the edges of the shoulder wings and the side bolsters.
The trim is velour, which grips better than a smooth surface when you are strapped in tight, and the textured side panels stand up to wear from getting in and out.

Fitting and harnesses
One practical advantage of the OMP steel framed seats is that they can be base mounted or side mounted. Where side mounts are awkward in a car, the seat can go on a base mount frame, which saves the cost of side mounts and a lot of measuring. It is HANS friendly and takes a four or six point harness.
OMP harnesses come in four and six point versions, in black, blue or red webbing depending on the model, with the OMP logo on the shoulder straps. Garreth’s advice is to choose the harness with the seat, so the slots, strap widths and anchor points all work together. Our guide to base mount and side mount fitting explains the options.
