New Totim Racing Seat Inserts Now Available
New range, July 2024
We have a new range of seat insert kits for 2024, from Totim Racing. Where most insert kits use beads and resin drawn down under vacuum, Totim use an expanding polyurethane foam sealed in a bag, which is quicker and cleaner to use.
An insert fills the space between the driver and the seat shell, so the seat holds you properly. A more accurate driving position lets you concentrate on driving and not on bracing yourself in the seat.
- New for 2024: Totim Racing seat insert kits
- Expanding polyurethane foam in a sealed, flame retardant bag
- The foam expands to around 25 times its initial volume
- About 20 minutes to set, and an hour before trimming
- Six sizes, from 60 x 50cm to 140 x 100cm
- No vacuum pump or hose needed

How the Totim kit works
The two components are sealed inside a fireproof bag. Pressing on the bag mixes them, and the activator expands the polyurethane foam to around 25 times its starting volume. The driver sits in it while it takes their shape.
It sets in about 20 minutes, and after an hour the excess at the edges can be cut away to tidy the shape. There is no pump and no hose to buy alongside it.

The steps are simple:
- Place the insert in the seat shell or cockpit.
- Mix the components by pressing on the bag.
- The driver sits in the seat in their driving position while the foam forms around them.
- Once it has set, trim the excess at the edges to the shape needed.
The outer fabric is flame retardant, and Totim state that the covering meets the ISO 3795 flammability standard.
Choosing a size
There are six sizes, and the right one depends on how much space there is between the seat and the driver. The better the seat already fits, the smaller the insert you need. The size quoted is the size of the bag, so Garreth’s advice is to measure the area you are filling before ordering.
As a starting point, we suggest the 60 x 50, 90 x 50 and 100 x 85cm sizes for smaller drivers, and the 100 x 90, 120 x 90 and 140 x 100cm sizes for larger drivers. Totim also name the larger kits by the kind of car they suit: GT, touring and LMP cockpits, or formula cars.
| Size | Totim description | Our starting point |
|---|---|---|
| 60 x 50cm | Padding, the smallest size | Smaller drivers |
| 90 x 50cm | Padding | Smaller drivers |
| 100 x 85cm | Formula | Smaller drivers |
| 100 x 90cm | GT, touring and LMP | Larger drivers |
| 120 x 90cm | GT, touring and LMP | Larger drivers |
| 140 x 100cm | LMP and formula | Larger drivers |
If you are between two sizes, tell us the car and the seat and we will suggest one.

The Real Race alternative
We also carry poly bead and resin insert kits from Real Race, which do the same job in the traditional way. The beads are moved around the driver to find the position, and drivers have time to try different positions before the resin is added and mixed, so the final shape can be set exactly where they want it. Real Race inserts can also be supplied with fire retardant covers branded with a driver or team name, a national flag or a sponsor.
Real Race also make a vacuum pump and hose for their bead kits, worked by hand or foot, to add or release vacuum in the liner, and a three cell pad whose inflation the driver can direct between the cells. The Totim kit is the quicker and simpler of the two, and the bead kit gives more time to experiment with the position first.
What is a Totim seat insert made from?
Expanding polyurethane foam, sealed in a flame retardant bag.
How long does a Totim insert take to set?
About 20 minutes to solidify, and an hour before the excess can be trimmed.
Do I need a vacuum pump for a Totim kit?
No. The foam mixes and expands inside the bag, so no pump or hose is needed.
Which Totim size do I need?
It depends on the gap between the seat and the driver. Measure the area you are filling, and ask us if you are between sizes.
