Motordrive Club Race & Race Classic Seats Now on Display

Our Motordrive display continues to grow, and we’re pleased to announce that the Motordrive Club Race and Race Classic seats are now available to view and test at our showroom.

We currently have the Motordrive Club Race in the Standard size and the Race Classic in the Large size on display, giving customers the opportunity to compare both seat variations in person. The Race Classic XL is due with us around September, which will let customers compare all three shell sizes side by side for the first time. The XL is only built in Classic specification, so the Club Race itself stops at Large.

The Club Race is built in Standard and Large. The Race Classic adds an XL on top, so between the two you can find the right fit for comfort and safety. These seats are available for immediate dispatch or collection, with additional stock held at our showroom and live stock levels displayed through our updated Motordrive product listings.

For drivers looking for an FIA-approved head-supported motorsport seat, there is no substitute for sitting in the seats yourself and comparing the different sizes before making a decision.

One of the biggest advantages of this new display is the opportunity to compare not only the different shell sizes, but also the differences between the standard Club Race and the upgraded Race Classic. While both seats share the same FIA-approved shell design and integrated head protection, the Race Classic introduces additional comfort features that can make a noticeable difference during longer driving sessions. Having both versions available side by side makes it much easier to decide which model best suits your needs.

The Club Race range has quickly become one of the most interesting additions to our showroom because it offers something that many motorsport seat manufacturers do not. Rather than producing a single shell size and expecting it to suit everyone, Motordrive has developed a complete size range that caters for smaller, average, and larger drivers. This helps remove much of the guesswork involved when purchasing a motorsport seat online and gives customers the confidence that they are choosing a seat that properly fits their body shape.

For motorsport drivers, achieving the correct fit is about far more than comfort alone. The right size seat helps position the harnesses correctly, improves support during cornering and braking, and allows the integrated head protection to sit in the correct position around the driver’s helmet. This is why we’re particularly excited to have these seats available for in-person testing, as customers can experience these differences for themselves before making a purchase.

Whether you’re building a track day car, rally car, race car, or simply upgrading your current seating setup, the new Motordrive Club Race display gives you the opportunity to compare the full range up close and make a much more informed decision before investing in your next motorsport seat.

Why Seat Sizing Matters

Choosing the correct motorsport seat is about far more than simply fitting between the side bolsters.

A properly sized seat should support the driver around the hips, shoulders, and upper body without feeling restrictive. It should also position the harness slots correctly relative to the driver’s shoulders and provide adequate support during hard cornering and braking.

The Club Race range runs to three shell sizes because drivers come in all shapes and sizes. A driver who fits perfectly into the Standard shell may feel cramped in some areas or too loose in others if they choose the wrong size.

With Standard and Large in the Club Race and an XL in the Race Classic, drivers can pick a seat that suits their build without giving up the FIA approval that runs across the whole range.

Motordrive Club Race Seat

The Motordrive Club Race is designed for drivers who need the additional protection of integrated head supports while maintaining excellent support throughout the rest of the seat.

The lightweight fibreglass shell construction keeps weight low while providing the strength and rigidity expected from a modern FIA-approved motorsport seat. The wrap-around head protection wings help improve safety, particularly in race cars and vehicles fitted with roll cages where head containment becomes increasingly important.

The seat is trimmed in brushed fabric with suede-effect shoulder panels, helping keep the driver firmly positioned during high-speed cornering and braking. Deep side bolsters and supportive leg cushions further improve driver stability.

The Club Race is suitable for a wide variety of motorsport disciplines, including circuit racing, rallying, sprint events, hill climbs, and track days.

To support the launch of the Motordrive range, we’ve also introduced new paired listings across the collection that display live showroom stock levels.

Motordrive Race Classic Seat

The Race Classic uses the same shell design as the Club Race but adds several comfort-focused improvements that many drivers appreciate during longer driving sessions.

The most noticeable additions are the upgraded lumbar support and larger knee cushions. These changes provide additional lower back support and improved leg comfort while retaining the same FIA approval, shell shape, and head protection design.

When viewed side by side in our showroom, customers can clearly see the extra padding and comfort enhancements that separate the Race Classic from the standard Club Race model.

For drivers competing in endurance events, spending long periods in their car, or simply wanting a little more comfort without sacrificing safety, the Race Classic is often the preferred choice.

Comparing the Different Sizes

One of the biggest benefits of the Motordrive range is the availability of three shell sizes.

As the shell size increases, the seats become wider around the shoulders and hips while also becoming taller overall. This helps accommodate a much wider range of drivers while maintaining the same overall design and safety features.

The increase in shell height is particularly important with head-supported seats, as it changes the position of the harness slots and head containment wings relative to the driver.

With the Standard and Large Club Race shells on display now and the Race Classic XL due around September, customers will shortly be able to compare the whole size range side by side and work out which shell suits them best.

Why Testing Seats in Person Makes a Difference

Choosing a motorsport seat is one of the few upgrades where measurements only tell part of the story. Two drivers with similar waist sizes can have completely different experiences in the same seat depending on their height, shoulder width, and driving position preferences.

By visiting our showroom, you can sit in the seats yourself and compare the different shell sizes directly. This allows you to assess comfort, shoulder support, harness slot positioning, and overall fit before committing to a purchase.

For many customers, a quick test fit immediately highlights which size feels right and which sizes can be ruled out. This helps remove the uncertainty that often comes with ordering a motorsport seat online.

Driver and Vehicle Fitment

One of the biggest advantages of the Motordrive Club Race and Race Classic range is that they offer integrated head support without becoming excessively large. Despite being designed for serious motorsport use, they remain compact enough to fit a wide range of vehicles.

Both the Standard and Large sizes share the same shoulder width of 590 mm and head restraint width of 495 mm, meaning vehicle fitment is very similar between the two models. The main difference is the overall height, with the Large version better suited to taller drivers.

Motordrive Club Race Standard

The Standard size is a great option for average-height drivers and tighter cockpit spaces.

  • Shoulder width: 590 mm.
  • Kidney width: 410 mm.
  • Height: 890 mm.
  • Weight: 7.2 kg.

Motordrive Club Race Large

The Large size keeps the same overall width but adds extra height and length for taller drivers.

  • Shoulder width: 590 mm.
  • Kidney width: 410 mm.
  • Height: 930 mm.
  • Weight: 7.7 kg.

What About the XL Size? (Race Classic Only)

The XL is built in Race Classic specification only, so if you need the biggest shell it comes with the comfort padding system and a free throwover cover as part of the deal. Motordrive are sending us one for the showroom around September. We’ll add the shell dimensions to this page once we have the seat in front of us.

Vehicle Fitment Summary

Because both current sizes share the same shoulder width and mounting footprint, fitment is generally straightforward. The main things to check before installation are:

  • Shoulder clearance to door cards and roll cage bars.
  • Roof clearance, especially when wearing a helmet.
  • Harness slot height relative to your shoulders.
  • Head restraint clearance around roll cage structures.

Compared to many head-supported FIA seats on the market, the Motordrive Club Race range offers a good balance of driver support, safety, and manageable external dimensions.

Installation and Mounting

The Motordrive Club Race and Race Classic are both side-mounted bucket seats.

Each seat features the common 290 mm side mounting bolt pattern, allowing them to work with most aftermarket universal side mounts.

These side mounts can then be attached to vehicle-specific seat subframes or mounted directly to floor-mounted structures commonly found in dedicated motorsport builds.

A typical installation consists of:

  • Universal side mounts.
  • Vehicle-specific seat subframe or motorsport floor mounting solution.
  • Motordrive seat.

This simple setup makes the seats suitable for everything from track day cars to full competition vehicles.

Motordrive Club Race: Standard, Large or Classic XL?

The Motordrive Club Race and Race Classic range gives drivers plenty of choice, with FIA-approved safety, integrated head support, and three shell sizes available across the range.

Whether you’re looking for a dedicated motorsport seat or a more comfort-focused option with the Race Classic upgrades, there is a model to suit a wide range of drivers and vehicle builds.

The biggest benefit of our showroom display is the opportunity to compare the different sizes in person. Sitting in the seats lets you check the fit around your shoulders and hips and where the harness slots land. That is how you pick the right size with any confidence.

With the Standard and Large shells on display now and the Race Classic XL due around September, the showroom is the place to compare the Motordrive Club Race range and find the best fit for your next project.
