Mirco GT 3D Seats Fitted Into a Subaru Impreza GRB

We like seeing how customers finish their seat upgrades, and this one is a good example of the right seat on the right hardware. A customer has fitted a pair of Mirco GT 3D FIA bucket seats into a Subaru Impreza GRB, using M2 Motorsport's direct fit frames for that generation of Impreza.
The Mirco GT's compact shell suits a car like the GRB, and the M2 frames bolt to the factory mounting points, so the installation was straightforward. The customer sent us photos of the finished job, and here is what went in and why.

The car: Subaru Impreza GRB
The GRB is the third generation Impreza, and it is the one that brought the WRX STI in hatchback form. With four wheel drive, a turbocharged flat four and plenty of rally history behind it, it makes a strong base for track and club motorsport.
In a car like this, a proper pair of FIA bucket seats changes the drive. The seat holds you in place, so you are not bracing against the wheel in corners, and you feel much more connected to what the car is doing.

The Mirco GT 3D is one of the seats we suggest most when someone needs a slim FIA seat that is still comfortable. This pair is trimmed in 3D spacer fabric, which looks good and lets air through on long stints, on track or on the road. We have the GT in this trim on the showroom floor to try.

Fitment and dimensions
The Mirco GT has a compact footprint, which is what makes it work in cars like the GRB where the space between the tunnel and the door card is limited. Mirco's drawing gives:
- Shoulder width: 590mm
- Base width: 495mm, and 380mm inside the base
- Height: 930mm
- Side mount holes: 290mm apart
It is a snug seat that gives good support without swamping a smaller interior, and on a low frame it keeps the driving position down.
Installation: M2 Motorsport frames for the GRB
Getting the fit right matters as much as choosing the seat, and that is where M2 Motorsport's GRB frames come in. They are made for the Impreza GRB and bolt to the factory floor mounting points, so there is no drilling or welding. They are steel, powder coated black, with 290mm side mount holes to match the GT.
The customer ran the frames with M2 side mounts and sliding runners, which lets the seat move to suit the driver, useful in a car that is shared or set up differently for road and track.
M2 make direct fit frames for many other cars too, from hot hatches to coupes and saloons, using the original bolting points and setting the seat low. One thing to know: M2 frames suit side mount buckets from most brands, but Corbeau’s side mount seats now use M10 fixings while M2 and PCI side mounts are drilled for M8, so the holes need drilling out slightly for M10, a small modification rather than a straight bolt-on.
