Customer question: fitting Mk3 Recaro Sportster CS seats into a Mk2 Megane 225

Garreth & Cameron’s fitting advice · 2005 Megane 225 RS

You’ve found a pair of Mk3 Recaros for your Mk2 Megane. Before we put a frame in the basket, we need to check the metal underneath the seats.

For this enquiry, the brief is a 405 mm mounting width. We haven’t confirmed a currently available Mk2 base with that pattern. Our published specifications put both SW and KTR at 345 mm across, so neither is a direct match.

  • Choose the floor base for the Mk2 car, not the Mk3 donor.
  • Confirm the mounting centres on the actual OEM seats and runners.
  • Agree any adapter or custom base with the installer before ordering.
  • Have the side airbags, buckles and pretensioners checked separately.

405 mm and 345 mm: which measurement matters?

405 mm brief

The seat side

405 mm is the width specified for this job. Measure centre to centre across the intended fixing holes, then record the front-to-back spacing as well.

These are Renault OEM Sportster CS seats. Don’t assume their runners and lower mechanism match a new aftermarket Recaro.

SW and KTR: 345 mm

The frame side

Our earlier SW Mk2 specification and KTR brand guide state a 345 mm bolt pattern. That is 60 mm narrower than the 405 mm brief.

A frame fitting the car’s floor doesn’t mean it fits the seat above it. We need the current frame drawing and the donor measurements to establish the connection.

What can we actually recommend?

At the moment, we can point you towards these suppliers for a specification check. We can’t give you a confirmed bolt-in shopping list for this OEM conversion.

Not a verified 405 mm solution

SW Motorsports Mk2 225

View the SW Mk2 base. The published 345 mm pattern rules it out as a straight 405 mm match. Only consider it if the supplier and installer approve a suitable adapter and finished seat height.

Also a 345 mm pattern

KTR Megane 2RS

View the KTR 2RS base. Our KTR brand guide records 345 mm across for the Megane 2RS and 3RS frames. It is not a direct 405 mm match. KTR also says some seats need modification; an approved adapter would still be needed.

Recaro Megane frame

Our Recaro Megane frame is marked out of stock. We haven’t established an available replacement or confirmed it for this donor assembly.

No listed Megane application

Planted Technology

We checked Planted’s published application guide and found no Renault Megane Mk2 entry. We won’t suggest a frame from another car as a substitute.

Send us four things before buying parts

Identify the donor assembly

Photos and seat labels

Send clear underside photos of both seats, their identification labels and everything still attached: runners, height adjustment, buckles and wiring.

Check the complete assembly

Measurements and driving position

Ask the installer to record both mounting spacings, fixing heights and runner travel. Check headroom, pedal reach and seat controls with you sitting in the car. Don’t stack a second set of sliders underneath the originals.

Keep the airbag check separate

These seats have side airbags. A Renault restraint-system specialist needs to confirm compatibility with the 2005 car, including the buckles and pretensioners. Matching plugs or extinguishing a warning light doesn’t establish that.

The wiring must stay clear of the moving runners, and each airbag must remain on its correct door-facing side. We’re not recommending resistor bypasses or improvised wiring.

Let’s check the seats you’ve found

Send Garreth or Cameron the photos, measurements and the installer’s proposed arrangement. We’ll use those to check the frame specification with the supplier, rather than sell you parts that leave you stuck halfway through.
