Definitive Guide to Corbeau Bucket Seat M10 Bolt Fittings and Side Mounts

Seat fitting guide, Corbeau

Nearly every aftermarket bucket seat side mounts with M8 bolts. A Sparco Evo, an OMP TRS-E or a Mirco GT has four M8 threaded mounting points, two each side, and side mounts from many makers are drilled to suit.

Corbeau's side mounted fixed back bucket seats are the exception. They use M10 fixings, at Corbeau's own mounting positions, so they need side mounts made for them. This guide explains which Corbeau seats that covers, what to mount them on, what not to do, and how the rest of the installation goes together.

  • Corbeau side mounted fixed back bucket seats use M10 fixings
  • Their side mounting points are at Corbeau's own positions
  • Corbeau reclining seats and base mounted seats use M8
  • Use side mounts made for Corbeau's M10 fixing, such as the Endurance B301648
  • On M2 Motorsport or PCI Racing kits, the M8 holes need drilling out slightly for M10
  • Older Corbeau seats may have a different hole spacing, so measure first

Which Corbeau seats use M10

The M10 fixing applies to Corbeau’s fixed back bucket seats that side mount. That covers the motorsport buckets, including FIA seats such as the RXC and seats such as the Forza, LS2 and Pro, and the Sprint range. Each has two mounting points on each side of the shell, threaded for M10.

It does not apply to Corbeau’s reclining sport seats, such as the RRS, RRB and SVR. Those are base mounted and use M8, like most other makers’ recliners.

Corbeau seats made before the mid 2000s sometimes used a different side hole spacing. If you have an older seat, measure the distance between the side holes before ordering mounts.

Look at the side of a Corbeau bucket and you will see the two mounting points near the base. They are larger than on most other seats, and they are not in the same place, which is why a standard side mount will not simply bolt on.

That matters for more than bolt size. Many frame kits are designed around the standard side mount pattern that most brands share, and a Corbeau side mount seat is not built to that pattern.

Side mounts for Corbeau seats

The Endurance Motorsport steel M10 side mounts (part B301648) are drilled for Corbeau’s M10 fixing from the factory. They bolt to the Corbeau seat’s side mounting points and down to your frame or runners, and they are listed as FIA approved and for road and track use. A two pair listing covers both front seats.

  • Steel, black powder coated
  • M10 clearance for the Corbeau seat fixing
  • Several positions for height and angle
  • Bolt down to a frame or to runners

If one seat in the car is a Corbeau and the other is not, use a pair of M10 mounts on the Corbeau and standard M8 mounts on the other.

Can you drill out M8 side mounts?

It is possible to open up the holes in a standalone M8 side mount to take an M10 bolt, but we do not recommend it. Enlarging a hole takes material out of the bracket, and near an edge that weakens it. It can also leave the holes in the wrong place for Corbeau’s mounting positions. And an approved side mount that has been modified may no longer be accepted as approved.

Side mounts made for Corbeau’s M10 fixing cost about the same as standard ones, so there is little reason to modify a bracket. If your car competes, ask your scrutineer before fitting anything that has been altered.

Frames and runners

Below the side mounts, you still need a frame or subframe for your car, and runners if you want fore and aft adjustment. Two things to know:

  • M2 Motorsport and PCI Racing kits. Corbeau side mounted seats now use M10 fixings, while M2 Motorsport and PCI Racing side mounts are drilled for M8, so the holes need drilling out slightly for M10. It is a small modification rather than a straight bolt-on, so ask us if you are unsure. Every other side mount bucket brand we sell bolts straight on.
  • Corbeau’s own frames and runners. Corbeau frames use 345mm or 291mm patterns on most models. Match the runner width to the frame’s pattern.

Recaro and Corbeau fitting kits are not compatible with each other, so do not plan to mix them. Tell us the car and the seat and we will put the whole stack together. Our guide to what size bolts seats and brackets need covers the M8 side of things, and our runner guide covers adjustment.

Putting it together

  1. Confirm the seat is a Corbeau side mount bucket, and measure the side hole spacing if it is an older seat.
  2. Choose M10 side mounts made for Corbeau seats.
  3. Choose a frame for your car. If it is an M2 or PCI kit, its side mounts are drilled for M8, so the holes need drilling out slightly for M10; ask us if you are unsure.
  4. Add runners if you want adjustment, matched to the frame.
  5. Use the correct grade M10 bolts for the seat to side mount joint, and the bolts specified for the other joints.
  6. Tighten everything properly and check it again after the first drive.

Garreth’s advice is to sort the mounting at the same time as the seat, not after it arrives. The seat is only as good as what holds it in the car.

Try a Corbeau seat

We usually have Corbeau bucket seats on display in the showroom; ring before you visit and we will tell you which ones, so you can check the fit and look at the trims before you order. If you are not sure whether a Corbeau suits your car, or how it will mount, send us the car and the seat and we will talk it through.

Corbeau’s side mounted fixed back bucket seats use M10 fixings; their reclining seats use M8.

No. Use side mounts made for Corbeau’s M10 fixing, such as the Endurance Motorsport B301648.

For a standalone side mount we do not recommend it; it weakens the bracket and may affect its approval. M2 and PCI kits are the exception, where drilling the holes out slightly for M10 is the small modification needed.

Not straight on any more. Corbeau side mount seats now use M10 fixings, while M2 and PCI side mounts are drilled for M8, so the holes need drilling out slightly for M10. It is a small modification; ask us if you are unsure.

Seats made before the mid 2000s sometimes used a different side hole spacing, so measure before ordering.
