Customer Car: A Nissan 350Z With An OMP RT On M2 Frames

Customer car, Nissan 350Z

A set of photographs landed with us from the owner of a Nissan 350Z, and they were good enough to stop the office for a minute. He picked the parts up from the showroom, and then did the thing almost nobody does and sent pictures back once it was in.

Thank you for those. Most of what leaves here we never see again, so a blue 350Z with an OMP RT sitting in it is a proper start to the morning.

  • Nissan 350Z, photographs sent in by the owner
  • OMP RT fibreglass FIA bucket seat, £707.96 inc VAT
  • M2 Motorsport direct fit sub-frame, £166.20 inc VAT a side
  • FIA 8855-1999, fixed back, HANS friendly, four and six point ready
  • A side mount seat on a frame listed for side mount and base mount both
  • One side done so far, the other still on the factory leather seat
An OMP RT fibreglass FIA bucket seat in black with alcantara and leather pads, fitted to a blue Nissan 350Z on an M2 Motorsport direct fit sub-frame, with the factory leather seat still in place alongside it
Sent in by the owner after he collected the parts from our showroom. The OMP RT on one side, the standard leather seat still sitting next to it.

What went in

The seat. The OMP RT is a proper FIA bucket, homologated to 8855-1999, built on a composite shell in black with alcantara and leather on the pads. It is a fixed back seat, so there is no recline lever and no pretending otherwise, and it carries harness slots at the shoulders for a four or six point belt. It is HANS friendly, and it is the sort of seat somebody buys when they mean it.

The frame. The RT is a side mount seat, which means it hangs off brackets on its flanks instead of sitting on a flat base. The M2 Motorsport sub-frame for the 350Z is listed for side mount and base mount both, and it is a direct fit, so it picks up the mounting points Nissan already put in the floor. Nothing is drilled, nothing is welded, and the standard seat goes back in whenever you want it to.

What the owner told us afterwards

Two notes came back with the photographs, and both are worth passing on, because they are the sort of thing you only learn once a seat is actually in a car.

The first is that the frame sets the seat a little closer to the door than he would have picked given a free choice. He put that down to how the frame is designed and he is right. A direct fit frame goes where the factory mounting points are, which is precisely why it bolts in without drilling, and it is the same reason the seat lands where the frame says instead of where you might nudge it by hand.

Close view of an OMP RT FIA bucket seat fitted in a Nissan 350Z, showing the embroidered OMP panel at the top of the backrest, the alcantara shoulder pads, the moulded harness slot trim and the car standard three point seat belt running across the seat
The car's own three point belt still runs where it always did. The harness slots sit above it, waiting for the day they are wanted.

The second is that the RT is a generous seat across the shoulders, that it still fits him fine, and that he reckons a very tall driver would want to sit in one before committing. He is not telling us anything the product page does not already say. Open the RT listing and the driver height on it reads under six foot, so what he found in his own car and what we publish about the seat are the same answer arrived at from two directions.

That is worth knowing before you buy and it is not a mark against the seat. A 350Z roofline is not a tall one to begin with, and shoulder width is the measurement people forget while they are busy checking their waist size.

Cameron had the pictures up on the counter screen before the kettle had boiled. Garreth looked over his shoulder and said the obvious thing, which was that a blue 350Z is exactly the sort of car that seat was drawn for.

Worth sitting in one firstThe RT is published for drivers under six foot with a 32 to 36 inch waist, and shoulder width catches more people out than waist size does. Ring us on 0115 9893488 before you come down and we will have one out on the floor for you to drop into.

Doing the same on your 350Z

It is a short list for this car. One seat, one frame per side, and that is the job. Both the seat and the frames are listed singly and in pairs, so you can do the driver first and come back for the passenger later, which is exactly what has happened here.

The M2 frames come to us in batches and the first delivery of 2026 landed in September, which you can read about in the delivery post. If you are not certain which side you need, or you want to check a seat against your own build before you spend anything, ring Garreth or Cameron on 0115 9893488 and they will talk it through with you.

It will, on the right frame. The RT is a side mount seat and the M2 Motorsport 350Z sub-frame is a direct fit listed for side mount as well as base mount, which is the combination in these photographs. Tell us whether you want the driver side, the passenger side or both, because the frames are sold per side as well as in pairs.

No. It is a fixed back FIA bucket, so the backrest angle is set by the seat and the frame and it does not adjust. If you want something you can lean back in on a long motorway run, you want a reclining sport seat and we will point you at those instead. Plenty of people run a fixed back on the road quite happily, but it is worth knowing before you buy and not after.

No, and this car is the proof. One side is on the OMP RT and the other is still on the factory leather seat. Plenty of people do the driver first and pick the passenger side up later, and nothing about the frame or the seat makes that awkward.

Yes. The car’s own three point belt still works exactly as it did, which is what the second photograph on this page shows. The harness slots in the shoulders are there for the day you fit a harness, and they change nothing until then.

The listing puts it at under six foot with a 32 to 36 inch waist, and the owner of this 350Z came to the same conclusion on his own. Treat that as guidance and not a hard rule, because build matters as much as height and so does the car you are putting it in. The only way to settle it is to sit in one.
