Custom Cages Volkswagen Golf, Corrado and Scirocco Roll Cages
Custom Cages build weld-in roll cage kits for the Volkswagen Golf from the Mk1 to the Mk8, and for the Corrado and the Scirocco. This guide puts all 25 in one place, with the price of each, the steel it is made from and what its listing says about approval. Cameron's first question is always what the car is for, because the cheapest six point kit and the dearest multipoint T45 are £929.10 apart.
- Kits and prices checked against the live site on 20 October 2026
- All 25 kits are listed as weld-in
- Approval shown as each listing states it

Three specs, and what each one is
Every kit in this guide comes in one of three specs. The six point National CDS kit is the entry cage at £889.20, and the listings call it MSUK Compliant. The Multipoint CDS is £1,311.00 on the cars that have it. The Multipoint T45 is £1,818.30 and every car here has one, with the approval line reading FIA Approved or MSUK Compliant where the listing gives one.
All 25 are weld-in. The listings describe CNC formed tubes with profiled ends, ready for welding, and footplates in the box, so a competent fabricator can work from the kit. The Corrado listing says its kit arrives in bare metal, so paint or powder coat it before it goes in.
Cameron’s rule is the same for all three. Read the Approval line on the kit you want, then check it against the regulations for your class before you order. The listing shows what Custom Cages state, and your series decides what it asks for.
Golf Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3
The first three Golfs share the same choice. The Mk1 has a six point CDS and a Multipoint T45. The Mk2 has the same two, and its T45 is listed FIA Approved. The Mk3 adds a Multipoint CDS, so it has all three, and both of its multipoint kits are listed FIA Approved.
The Mk1 T45 is the one to ask about first. Its listing carries no approval line, so tell us the class you are building for and Cameron checks the kit against it. It costs the same as every other T45 in this guide, which makes the missing line the only reason to hesitate.

Golf Mk4 and the Mk4 R32
The Mk4 has all three specs, and the Mk4 R32 has its own set, also all three. The six point kits are £889.20 for either car, the Multipoint CDS £1,311.00 and the Multipoint T45 £1,818.30. Both Mk4 multipoint kits are listed FIA Approved.
On the R32 only the T45 carries an approval line, FIA Approved and MSUK Compliant. If the approval matters to your class, that is the R32 kit to start from, and Cameron would still check it against your rules before you order.
| Model | Kit | Steel | Fixing | Approval | Price inc VAT |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Golf Mk4 | 6 Point | CDS | Weld In | MSUK Compliant | £889.20 |
| Golf Mk4 | Multipoint | CDS | Weld In | FIA Approved | £1,311 |

| Golf Mk4 R32 | Multipoint | T45 | Weld In | FIA Approved / MSUK Compliant | £1,818.30 |
Golf Mk5, Mk6, Mk7 and Mk8
The newer Golfs are Multipoint T45 only, all weld-in, at £1,818.30. The Mk5 and Mk6 share one kit, listed FIA Approved. The Mk5 R32 has its own, and so do the Mk7, listed FIA Approved and MSUK Compliant, and the Mk8.
There is no six point or CDS kit for these four, so the T45 is the starting point. If you want the cheaper CDS route, it stops at the Mk4. Garreth’s point on these is simple: with only one spec on offer, the decision is the car and the class, not the cage.
| Model | Kit | Steel | Fixing | Approval | Price inc VAT |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Golf Mk5 and Mk6 | Multipoint | T45 | Weld In | FIA Approved | £1,818.30 |
| Golf Mk5 R32 | Multipoint | T45 | Weld In | Not stated | £1,818.30 |
| Golf Mk7 | Multipoint | T45 | Weld In | FIA Approved / MSUK Compliant | £1,818.30 |
| Golf Mk8 | Multipoint | T45 | Weld In | Not stated | £1,818.30 |
Corrado and Scirocco
The Corrado has all three specs. The six point is £889.20 and is listed MSUK Compliant, and the Multipoint CDS and T45 are £1,311.00 and £1,818.30. The Scirocco is covered across three generations: the Mk1 and Mk2 each have a six point CDS and a Multipoint T45, and the 2008 Mk3 has the T45 only.
None of the Corrado or Scirocco multipoint kits carries an approval line on its listing. Garreth’s advice for a Corrado or an older Scirocco going into a championship is to send us the regulations and let us match the kit to them.

Common questions
Do these kits need welding?
Yes. All 25 are listed as weld-in. The tubes arrive formed and profiled, ready for a fabricator to weld into the shell.
What comes in the box?
The listings describe CNC formed tubes with profiled ends and a set of footplates. The Corrado six point kit lists A pillar supports, a roof bar, a dash bar, a rear X brace, X door bars and harness tubes. It arrives in bare metal, so plan to paint or powder coat it.
What is the difference between CDS and T45?
The steel. The multipoint CDS kits are £1,311.00 and the T45 kits £1,818.30, and the Corrado six point listing gives its CDS tube as 45 x 2.5mm. Which one your class asks for is for your regulations to say, and Cameron will help you read the listing against them.
Which kit does my class need?
We cannot tell you that from the product page, and nor can the listing. Each kit’s Approval line says FIA Approved or MSUK Compliant where Custom Cages state one. Send us the regulations for your class and the car, and we will match a kit to them before you order.
How long will a kit take?
The Corrado listing says each kit is built after you order. If you are working to an event date, tell us when you order and we confirm the lead time for the kit you want before you commit.
Where this leads
Every kit here is weld-in, so the choice that matters most is the steel and the approval line. If you are weighing bolt-in against weld-in for another car, our bolt-in or weld-in guide covers what bolt-in kits involve, including the footplate welding they still need. Once the cage is in, the harness mounting guide explains the points that matter.
What we would actually fit

What I would buy
For a Golf that is mostly a road car with a few track days, I would look at the six point CDS first. At £889.20 it is the entry kit on the Mk1 to the Mk4, the Corrado and the older Sciroccos.
For a car that races, every Golf here has a T45, so you can step up on any of them without changing car.
Cameron
What I check before it ships
I read the Approval line on the kit first, then match it to your class regulations. The listing shows what Custom Cages state, and the regulations are yours to confirm.
Then I confirm the lead time for the kit you have chosen, because it is built after you order.
Not sure which Golf cage suits your build?
Ring us with the car, what it is for and the class you are entering. Cally, our digital receptionist, takes your details and Cameron comes back to you. Every kit is welded in, so settle the spec before the car goes to the fabricator.
