Custom Cages Subaru Roll Cages
Custom Cages, Subaru
Impreza enquiries account for more of our Custom Cages calls than any other Japanese car, and the GC8 alone has seven kits to choose from. Across the full Subaru range there are 24 kits in all: GC8 and five later Impreza generations, the BRZ in two versions, and the Legacy. Cameron handles most of the Impreza cage enquiries, and Garreth keeps a particular interest in the GC8 given his own track history with one.
Every kit in the range is Custom Cages made-to-order in the UK. The split between CDS and T45 runs 4 to 20 across the 24 kits, so T45 is the dominant material here. Bolt-in options exist on the GC8 and the GRB; everything else is a weld-in Multipoint. Prices run from £889 to £2,274 inc VAT. All 24 kits are listed by model group below.
- 24 kits covering GC8, GDB, GRB, GVB, VAB, GP/GJ Impreza, BRZ (two generations) and Legacy
- Seven GC8 kits: four-door National at £889 up to the Group A Factory Style T45 at £2,166 inc VAT
- Bolt-in options on the GC8 (CDS, £1,636) and the GRB (CDS, £1,674); all others are weld-in Multipoint T45
- BRZ covered in two generations: 2012-2020 International T45 at £1,818 and ZD8 Gen 2 at £1,932
- Price range £889 to £2,274 inc VAT; 20 of 24 kits are in T45

GC8 Impreza
The GC8 ran from 1992 to 2000 and it is still the Subaru that generates the most cage enquiries we handle. Custom Cages build seven kits for it. The most straightforward entry is the four-door six-point National CDS bolt-in at £889. The two-door equivalent is listed and priced separately at £1,818, which is the same level as the International Multipoint weld-in kits. If you are looking at the two-door six-point National and that price is unexpected, drop us an email or click to open a chat and we will go through the spec with you.
The International Multipoint weld-in kits in T45 cover the two-door (£1,818), four-door (£1,818) and the combined 2/4dr ‘Optima’ version at the same price. The ‘Optima’ is the variant Garreth had fitted to his own GC8 for track use. The bolt-in Multipoint CDS for 2/4dr sits at £1,636 and is the entry point for anyone who wants a bolt-in option without the weld. The Group A ‘Factory Style’ T45 weld-in sits at £2,166 at the top of the GC8 range.
| Kit | Fixing | Steel | Price inc VAT |

Prices include VAT. Seven kits cover the GC8 from a bolt-in six-point National up to the Group A Factory Style spec.
GDB and GRB Impreza (2001-2011)
The GDB covers the 2001 to 2007 Impreza generations. Custom Cages have two kits: the GDB T45 weld-in at £1,884 and the ‘Step 3’ International Multipoint T45 at £1,818. Both are weld-in. If you are fitting to a GDB and are not sure which of the two applies to your build, drop us an email or click to open a chat and we will sort it.
The GRB runs from 2007 to 2011. Three kits: R4 International T45 at £1,818, Group N International T45 at the same price, and a bolt-in CDS option at £1,674. The GRB bolt-in is the only bolt-in available for the post-GC8 Impreza generations, so it gets asked about regularly. Bolt-in fits without welding; the weld-in Multipoints need a fabricator for the install.
GVB, VAB and GP/GJ (2011 onwards)
The GVB is the 2011 to 2014 WRX STI. Three kits: two R4 International T45 options, listed at £1,818 and £2,100, and a Group N International T45 at £1,818. The price difference between the two R4 kits is worth a call to confirm which spec suits your class before ordering. The Group N is the standard choice for Group N builds; the R4 is for R4-spec championships.
The VAB is the 2014 to 2021 WRX STI. One kit: International T45 weld-in at £1,818. The GP/GJ covers the fourth-generation saloon and hatch Impreza from 2011 to 2016. Two kits, R4 International T45 and Group N International T45, both at £1,818. These are the two most recent Impreza generations in the range and both run the standard T45 Multipoint weld-in spec.
BRZ
The BRZ is a different customer from the Impreza. Two kits: the 2012 to 2020 generation at £1,818 International T45 weld-in, and the ZD8 Gen 2 at £1,932 in the same spec. No bolt-in option exists for either BRZ generation, and no CDS variant; both kits are T45 weld-in Multipoints. If you are building a BRZ for track use and the class requires a cage, these are the two Custom Cages options currently listed. If you are not sure which generation your car is, the ZD8 is the 2022-onwards model.
Legacy
Four Legacy kits. The HISTORIC T45 is at £1,818, the main Multipoint T45 at £1,932. The two Factory Style kits sit at £2,274 each: Legacy First Generation B Factory Style T45 and the Legacy Factory Style Historic T45. Factory Style kits are the highest-spec option in this section and they show up in historic class builds where the specification requires the fuller bar configuration.
Legacy cage enquiries are less common than Impreza calls but they do come in. If you are building a Legacy for a specific championship and need to confirm which of the four kits matches your class regs, drop us an email or click to open a chat to confirm which kit matches your class regs. Do not guess which spec applies; the Factory Style and Multipoint configurations are meaningfully different.

Not sure which kit fits your buildRing us with the car and the class
Most Subaru cage questions come down to GC8 spec (which of the seven kits, and whether bolt-in works for the class) or a generation check on the newer Imprezas. Drop us an email or click to open a chat and Garreth will work through it with you. The GDB two-kit question and the GVB R4 price split are the ones that most often need clarifying.
Common questions about the Subaru range
What is the difference between the two GC8 weld-in T45 International kits and the 'Optima'?
The 2-door and 4-door International Multipoint T45 kits are separate fitments for their respective bodyshells. The ‘Optima’ version is listed for both bodyshells (2/4dr) and is the variant that suits the widest range of builds in the GC8. If you are not sure which applies to your specific car, ring before ordering.
Why does the GC8 Bolt-in CDS cost more than the four-door six-point National?
The bolt-in Multipoint CDS (£1,636) is a more complex kit to manufacture than the six-point National CDS (£889). The six-point National bolt-in is a simpler configuration; the bolt-in Multipoint gives a fuller cage without welding. Both fit without permanent modification to the bodyshell.
Is the GRB bolt-in the only bolt-in option for the modern Imprezas?
Yes. The bolt-in CDS at £1,674 is the only bolt-in in the GDB, GRB, GVB, VAB and GP/GJ range. The GC8 has two bolt-in options. If you want a cage on a newer Impreza without welding, the GRB bolt-in is the one; contact us to confirm it is the right fit for your specific car.
Which Legacy kits suit a historic class build?
The Legacy HISTORIC T45 at £1,818 and the Legacy Factory Style Historic T45 at £2,274 are the options. Which applies depends on your class regulations. Drop us an email or click to open a chat with the championship name and we will check the spec for you.
Are the BRZ kits compatible with the Toyota GR86?
The GR86 shares a platform with the ZD8 BRZ. We do not have confirmed fitment data for the GR86 on our listings; drop us an email or click to open a chat before ordering and we will check with Custom Cages directly. Do not assume a BRZ kit transfers without confirming.
Does this page cover every Subaru cage Custom Cages make?
It covers every published, in-stock Custom Cages kit for Subaru as of the date this guide was written. Safety Devices also build cages for some Subaru models; those are listed separately on sportseats4u.co.uk.
Where this leads
If the steel question is still open, the T45 vs CDS guide covers what the material difference means for club builds. The GC8 and GRB bolt-in options come up often enough that the bolt-in vs weld-in guide is worth reading if you are deciding between the two. For other Japanese makes, the Honda and Nissan guides are in the same series on sportseats4u.co.uk.
If you need to confirm a spec against a championship, ring 0115 9893488 and Garreth will check it. The GC8 two-door National pricing, the GDB two-kit split and the GVB R4 price difference are the three Subaru questions that most often need a call before the order goes through.
