Cobra Classic Twin Stripe Seat As Seen In-Store
Classic seats, July 2022
A pair of Cobra Classic twin stripe bucket seats has just come into the showroom, in black vinyl with orange stripes, and they have stopped a few people in their tracks this week.
The Classic is the seat Cobra built their name on, and the twin stripe version adds two racing stripes down the centre of the seat. Here is what it is, what you can choose, and how it compares with the rest of the Cobra Classic family.
- The Cobra Classic twin stripe has two stripes down the centre panel
- You choose the body and stripe colours when you order
- Hand trimmed in the UK in soft grain vinyl
- Road and track approved, not FIA homologated
- Steel frame, fixed back, base mounted on a 291mm x 330mm pattern
- Harness slots for a 4 point belt

The seat in the showroom
The Cobra Classic is the traditional Cobra shape: deep bucketed sides and rounded, comfortable support, on a steel frame with a fixed back. Cobra have been building it in the same style for a long time, and it still looks right in a period interior.
The twin stripe version takes that shell and runs two stripes down the centre of the seat, over the cushion and up the backrest into the headrest. On this pair the body is black and the stripes are orange, which is about as bold as the combination gets. We think it works very well, and it is a proper period detail in a car of the right era.
The stripes are part of the trim, not a sticker or an add-on, and the seat is hand trimmed in the UK in soft grain vinyl. You pick both colours when you order: the body colour and the stripe colour, and the stripes can be two different colours if you want them to be.
We confirm the combination with you before the seat is built, so there is no guessing about what turns up.

The Classic and the Classic CS
The twin stripe comes in two versions. The Cobra Classic twin stripe is the standard Classic shell, and it can be ordered with or without the headrest. The Cobra Classic CS twin stripe adds the headrest and side harness slots as standard, so it is the one to choose if you want the practical additions as well as the look.
Structurally the rest is the same. Both are road and track approved, with no FIA homologation, so they suit road use, shows and track days rather than scrutineered competition. Both are fixed back, base mounted seats with harness slots for a 4 point belt.
You can see every version in our Cobra historic and classic seat range.

Fitting a Classic in your car
The Classic is base mounted on a 291mm x 330mm bolt pattern. It can be bolted straight to the floor with four bolts, or mounted on Cobra sliding runners if you want to move it backwards and forwards. The seat is sold on its own, so you will also need a frame for your car.
The shell is on the shorter side, at 710mm tall, so it suits most drivers but not everyone. Garreth’s advice is to send us your height and waist before you order, and to ask us about the frame for your car at the same time. Our guide to seat bolt patterns explains how the mounting works.
Seeing Cobra seats in person
We are an official Cobra distributor and keep Cobra seats on display in the showroom, so you can sit in a Classic before you commit to colours. Cobra are one of the original UK seat makers, and they build racing bucket seats, reclining sport seats, motorsport seats and historic seats, along with harnesses.
If you are after a seat for a classic car, it is worth coming in and trying the Classic next to Cobra’s other historic shapes, because the difference in shell height and side support is much easier to feel than to read about.
