The Recaro Podium GF, 1786.05. The glass fibre version of Recaro’s Podium shell: seat only, side mount, FIA 8855-1999, HANS friendly, four or six point harness compatible, no head support, with a medium or large pad kit and a choice of trims, driver’s or passenger’s side at order. Six sold, six photographs.
GF against CF
Same Podium shape as the carbon CF, in glass fibre instead, at 1786.05 against 3159.45. It is heavier and it is 1373 cheaper, and six people have decided the weight was worth less than the money. Both are homologated and both go into a road car as well as a race car.
Fit comes from the padding
Order the pad kit to your build, M or L, and the shell does the rest. That is how Recaro size the Podium, so we need your height and build rather than a waist measurement.
Three trims
Black Alcantara with red leather, the reverse in red Alcantara with black leather, or plain Perlon velour.
Getting it into the car
Recaro’s Podium side mounts carry it, and Recaro homologate the seat and those mounts together, so they are the ones to use; they and the frame for your car are separate listings. The seat carries FIA 8855-1999 with the expiry on its label, takes four or six point belts, and is shaped for a head and neck restraint on the six. Send us the car and we will price the mounts and frame with it.
Have you written anything about this exact product?
Yes, we have covered this exact product: Recaro Podium seats for your 2019 Toyota GR Supra, including our fitting guide, and The Recaro Podium Is Back For 2023 With New Options. That is first-hand coverage from our own builds and showroom, not brochure copy.
Will I fit in this seat?
Send us your height and waist size and we will confirm the fit. The paper dimensions only tell half the story, and our showroom team sit in these seats every day, so you get the honest answer rather than a guess from a chart.
Is it FIA approved, and for how long?
Yes, it carries FIA 8855-1999 homologation. Every FIA seat has a not-valid-after year printed on its homologation label, and that label date is what a scrutineer checks, so look at the label on the seat you receive and check it against your championship regulations. Buying new means you get the freshest label the maker currently produces.
What do I need to fit it to my car?
This is a side-mount seat: it hangs between side brackets, the motorsport-style stack with fine height and angle control. You will need the car-specific frame, and a sliding runner if you want fore-and-aft adjustment. Our guide on base mount versus side mount walks through the whole stack, and tell us your car and we will quote the full kit.
Does it work with harnesses and a HANS device?
The shell takes 4 point compatible and 6 point compatible. If you are planning the full seat, harness, and HANS setup, tell us the car and we will spec it end to end.
How do I know it will feel right, not just fit on paper?
Fair question, because makers publish widths and weights, never feel, and two seats with identical numbers can feel nothing alike in the car. We keep the ranges on display in the Nottingham showroom, you are welcome to come and sit in them, and if you cannot get to us, call and describe your build, as the team sit in these seats every day. Our head support measurements guide shows the kind of real-world data we collect.
