Will A Bride VIOS III Fit An Audi A3 8L? Frames, Rails And Mounting Explained

A customer asked whether a Bride VIOS III would fit the frames made for an Audi A3 8L. It won't bolt straight onto them. Those frames take base mount seats, and the VIOS III is listed as a side mount shell. It can still be made to work with side mounts matched to the seat, and we confirm that combination before anything is ordered.

  • Frame and side mount prices read from the live site, inc VAT
  • VIOS III details from Bride's own pages and our BRIDE rail guide
  • Where a fit isn't confirmed yet, we say so

The 8L is a first track car for a lot of owners, and the seat is usually the first change.
Short answer

Not directly: a VIOS III needs side mounts on top of an 8L frame

  • The 8L frames from Sparco, OMP, Corbeau and Recaro are built for base mount seats
  • Our BRIDE rail guide lists VIOS III as a side mount seat on a 290 × 395mm pattern, in the LF rail family
  • We list no BRIDE vehicle rail for the A3 8L, so the rail route is not open on this car
  • A frame plus side mounts is the route to ask us about, and we check the pairing for your seat first

What the A3 8L frames are built to take

The A3 8L ran from September 1996 to 2003, and four makers still list a frame built for its floor: Sparco, OMP, Corbeau and Recaro. All four bolt to the factory seat mounting points in place of the standard runners, so a straight floor needs no drilling. All four also sit the seat lower than the seat and runners you took out. Our Audi A3 8L bucket seat guide goes through all of them.

The listings are plain about the seat they expect. Sparco say their frame is for base mount seats and that side mount FIA competition seats use a different mounting system. Corbeau rule out side mounted seats on theirs. Recaro’s fits Recaro base mountable seats only. A VIOS III has no base pattern to meet the frame, because it is listed as a side mount seat.

“The Recaro frame is Recaro only,” says Cameron. “So I wouldn’t look at it for a Bride. It’s here if you want to see it, but the two worth comparing are the Sparco and the OMP.”

What the VIOS III asks of the floor

Bride’s own VIOS page describes the series as full bucket seats built on its LOWMAX system, which lets the seat sit low in a tight cabin. The VIOS III is the standard model, with JAPAN and REIMS as the other two versions. Bride also say the backrest of the VIOS III is relatively upright and that the thigh cushion is thin to suit.

Our BRIDE rail guide puts VIOS III in the LF rail family. That is a side mount interface with a nominal 290 × 395mm pattern, for LOWMAX fixed back seats, and BRIDE quote up to 80mm lower depending on the vehicle. The LF rail is the vehicle specific BRIDE part. The ones we list cover Toyota, Subaru, Nissan, Mazda, Honda and Daihatsu cars, and none is for an Audi.

  • Fixed back full bucket, listed as a side mount seat
  • Nominal side mount pattern 290 × 395mm, LF rail family
  • LOWMAX system, Bride's own
  • Versions in the series: VIOS III, JAPAN and REIMS

We do not show a VIOS III page on the site, so send us the exact variant and we check its fixing details against Bride’s data before anyone talks about parts.

The BRIDE rail line comes from our rail guide and the live listings. The frame lines come from the Sparco, OMP, Corbeau and Recaro listings.

“If the maker’s own rail isn’t there for the car, I want the frame and the side mounts proven together on paper before you spend a penny on either,” says Garreth. “A VIOS III in an 8L is worth doing. Just not until the pattern’s confirmed.”

Corbeau 8LBase mountNot stated on the listingCorbeau base mounted seats, a Sportline reclining seat or a Classic bucket

Each frame is sold singly and handed by side, so a driver and passenger pair means ordering twice.

“For an awkward seat the OMP frame is the safer pick,” says Cameron. “Its plates carry two clusters of holes, so a bracket has more places to land. A cheaper frame with one pattern leaves me less to work with.”

Side mounts: the part that decides it

The side mounts are what turn a base mount frame into something a side mount shell can sit on. They have to match the seat’s hole spacing and its thread, and the thread is the open question for the VIOS III. Bride’s nominal side spacing is 290mm, which is also the common spacing on several other makers’ seats, but we have not confirmed the thread.

The Endurance Motorsport Steel M8 Side Mounts are a pair of powder coated steel brackets for FIA bucket seats. The listing says they fit any FIA seat with the standard 290mm side hole spacing and names Sparco, OMP, Cobra, Recaro, Mirco and Sabelt. It does not name Bride. It also warns that M8 and M10 are not interchangeable, and that Corbeau seats use M10 and need different brackets.

One pair covers one seat. Whether the VIOS III takes M8 is the check we run first. Nobody should order these on the strength of that spacing alone.

  • From £34.80 inc VAT
  • Steel, FIA Approved and Road & Track
  • M8 fixings, with or without bolts
  • One pair covers one seat

Planted also list a steel 90 degree universal side mount at £122.40, and its listing says universal still has to match your seat’s bolt spacing, because seat makers do not all use the same one.

What to send us before you order anything

  • The exact seat: VIOS III, JAPAN or REIMS, with the trim you have
  • Driver side, passenger side or both seats, right hand drive
  • Confirmation that the car is a 1996 to 2003 8L, since the 8P that followed has its own frames
  • Whether the seat is for track use or also the daily drive

“Tell me about the daily drive,” says Garreth. “A fixed back shell on a side mount frame is set once and left, which is fine on a track car. If a passenger needs to move the seat, we’ll talk about a base mount seat on the frame instead.”

Common questions

No. The 8L frames from Sparco, OMP, Corbeau and Recaro are built for base mount seats, and the VIOS III is listed as a side mount seat. It needs side mounts on top, matched to the seat, and we confirm that pairing before you order.

We list none. Our BRIDE rail guide puts VIOS III in the LF family, and the LF rails we list are for Toyota, Subaru, Nissan, Mazda, Honda and Daihatsu cars. Send us the car if you have seen one elsewhere and we will check it.

The Recaro 8L listing says it fits Recaro base mountable seats only, so it is not the frame to start from for a Bride.

No. The Sparco, OMP and Recaro frames are sold singly and handed by side, and the Corbeau kit covers one seat. For both front seats you order twice.

The 8L frames all sit a seat lower than the factory seat and runners. How much lower a VIOS III sits on side mounts and a frame is something we have not measured, so ask us before you plan around helmet or roof clearance.

Bride’s own page lists three in the series, VIOS III, JAPAN and REIMS, so send us the name on the seat or a photo of the label and we will match it.

We have not confirmed that. The Endurance listing names several makers with 290mm side hole spacing but not Bride, and says M8 and M10 are not interchangeable. We check the thread on your seat first.

What we would buy

Garreth's top tip

If it were my 8L and the VIOS III was already in the garage, I'd start with the Sparco frame at £87.00 and ask Cameron to prove the side mounts before I bought a second thing. It's the cheapest way onto the floor.

If the car also carries passengers, I would look at a base mount seat on that frame and keep the VIOS III for a car that suits it.

Cameron

Cameron's fitting view

I'd want the exact seat and a photo of the side holes before picking a frame, because the seat's pattern and thread decide the rest.

On the frame: the OMP at £123.50 gives you the second bolt pattern, and the Sparco at £87.00 is the cheaper way in.

Got a VIOS III in mind for your 8L?

Tell us the exact seat and which side of the car it is for, plus a photo of the side holes if you can. Cally, our digital receptionist, takes your details when you ring. Cameron then comes back with the combination before you order.
