Five New Cobra Special Editions, And The Cars They Belong In

New in, Cobra special editions, made to order

Cobra trim one off seats for customers all the time. Somebody wants burgundy cord instead of the usual black Dinamica, or a tweed that matches the car, and because every Cobra is hand trimmed in Telford anyway, the answer is usually yes. Most of those seats are never seen again by anyone but the owner.

We have picked five of them and put them on the site as made to order editions. Underneath, each one is a seat you already know: the same shell, the same mountings and the same fitting kits as the standard version, so nothing about getting it into your car changes. What changes is the cloth. Below is each one, what it actually is, and the car Cameron reckons it belongs in.

  • Five new made to order editions, from £465.00 to £1,055.00 inc VAT
  • Each is a standard Cobra shell in a trim we do not run as standard, so the mountings do not change
  • Two Nogaro buckets, two reclining Le Mans trims, one historic bucket and one classic GT
  • All five are Road and Track approved, none of them carries FIA homologation
  • Hand trimmed to order in the UK, allow 4 to 6 weeks
  • Every one is sold seat only, so tell us the car and we will put the mounts against it
Looking down into the open cockpit of a dark grey Mazda MX-5 Mk3 over the top of the shut driver door, showing a Cobra Nogaro Street bucket seat in black vinyl with orange and black pepita houndstooth centre panels and white stitching
The Nogaro Street in orange and black pepita, in the car Garreth reckoned it belonged in. Closed shoulders, so the standard three point belt stays exactly as it is.

What a special edition is here

It is worth being clear about this before you look at prices. A special edition is not a different seat. The shell, the frame, the bolt pattern, the harness compatibility and the dimensions are all exactly the standard product. If a subframe fits the standard Le Mans it fits the Le Mans Special Edition, and the same goes for the Nogaro and the Classic GT.

What you are paying for is the cloth and the labour in it. Specialist fabric costs more than vinyl and takes longer to cut and sew, particularly where a check has to line up across a panel. That is the whole of the difference, and it is why every one of these says four to six weeks instead of off the shelf.

  • Same shell, same frame, same bolt pattern and same fitting kits as the standard model
  • Hand trimmed to order in Telford, allow 4 to 6 weeks from order
  • All five are Road and Track approved; none of them carries FIA homologation
  • Sold seat only. Mounts, subframes and runners are chosen against your car
  • Trims are fixed specifications, not a blank sheet. If you want something else, ring us and ask
If your class needs the paperworkNone of these five carries FIA 8855-1999. They are road and show seats, and a scrutineer will want to see a homologation label and an in-date expiry. If you are competing in anything scrutineered, look at the Imola, Suzuka or Sebring instead and ring us before you order.

Cobra Nogaro Street Pepita Edition

Close view of a Cobra Nogaro Street fixed back bucket seat fitted in a Mazda MX-5 Mk3, in black vinyl with orange and black pepita houndstooth centre panels and white stitching
Four padded flutes across the backrest centre, orange and black pepita through them, and white stitching picking out every seam. The shoulders are closed, so there is nowhere for a harness to come through.

Pepita is the German name for the fine houndstooth check, the small broken star that repeats on a tight grid. It has been a period motorsport trim since the sixties and it is one of those patterns that reads as a warm solid colour from across a car park and only resolves into a check when you are sitting in it.

This one is orange and black through the centre panels, with everything else in smooth black vinyl. The backrest centre is split into four padded flutes running across the seat, and the whole thing is sewn in bright white, which is what lifts it. Without the white stitching it would be a dark seat with a bright stripe up the middle. With it, every panel edge is picked out.

Street means the shoulders are closed. There are no harness slots in this shell, which is the right call for a car keeping its standard three point belt, and it is what separates it from the Circuit below. If harnesses are the plan, buy the Circuit shell instead.

  • £1,019.00 inc VAT, part NOGS-GC-PEPITA
  • Fixed back bucket in fibreglass, 7.9kg, side mount only
  • 910mm tall, 560mm wide, 490mm across the base, 710mm deep
  • Black vinyl surround with orange and black pepita centres and white stitching
  • No harness slots. Made for a standard three point belt
  • Drivers over 6ft with a 32 to 36 inch waist

The car: a Mazda MX-5 Mk3. Garreth called this one and he is right. The NC is the MX-5 people build as a modern classic instead of a track car, and its cabin is a lot of black plastic in a small space. Orange through the centre panels is the quickest way to give it something, and because the Nogaro is a contemporary bucket shape carrying a period cloth, it does not look like a fancy dress seat in a 2005 car the way a genuinely retro shell would. It is a side mount seat, so it wants a subframe and side mounts, not a bracket and runners.

Cobra Le Mans Special Edition, in two trims

Looking down into the cabin of a dark green Land Rover Defender 90 over the top of the shut driver door, showing a Cobra Le Mans reclining seat in dark brown vinyl with oatmeal and brown Harris Tweed houndstooth centre panels
Harris Tweed in a 90. Wool is warm in a draughty cab and does not go cold overnight the way vinyl does, so this one suits a working car as much as a show car.

This is one product with two trims on the dropdown, and they could hardly be further apart in character. Underneath both is the standard Le Mans Reclining: steel frame, base mount on the 291mm by 330mm Cobra pattern, headrest included, and the orthopaedic style backrest that makes a Le Mans comfortable over distance instead of only supportive in corners. Anything that fits a standard Le Mans fits these.

Harris Tweed Oatmeal is dark chocolate brown vinyl with a genuine Harris Tweed houndstooth down the centre panels in oatmeal and warm brown. That name is not decoration. Harris Tweed is handwoven pure wool from the Outer Hebrides and it is protected by its own Act of Parliament, so nobody can call a cloth Harris Tweed unless it is the real thing. Cobra are an official trimmer for it. It is a heavier, coarser, more three dimensional cloth than an ordinary upholstery weave, and it looks it.

The car: a Land Rover Defender 90. Garreth’s second call and an obvious one once you hear it. A 90 cabin is painted metal, square edges and hard wearing everything, and a brown tweed seat in it looks like it was always meant to be there. It is also the one trim on this page that suits a working car as much as a show car, because wool is warm in a draughty cab and does not go cold overnight the way vinyl does.

Looking down into the cabin of a dark green classic Mini over the top of the shut driver door, showing a Cobra Le Mans reclining seat in black vinyl with fine red and black houndstooth centre panels
The same seat in red and black houndstooth. A reclining seat with a headrest is a genuine comfort upgrade in a Mini, which is not something you can say about most buckets.

Red and black houndstooth is the other half of the same product: black vinyl with a fine red and black check through the centres. Up close it is a neat small pattern. From the other side of a car park it reads as a solid rich red, which is usually the point of it.

The car: a classic Mini. Small cabin, painted metal dash, one big round dial, and a long history of check seat trim in exactly this vein. A reclining seat with a headrest is also a genuine comfort upgrade in a Mini, which is not something you can say about many bucket seats.

  • £799.00 inc VAT in either trim, part COB-LEMANS-SE
  • Reclining sport seat on a steel frame, headrest included
  • Base mount, 291mm x 330mm, the standard Cobra pattern
  • Harris Tweed Oatmeal: chocolate brown vinyl, genuine handwoven Outer Hebrides wool centres
  • Red and black houndstooth: black vinyl with a fine red check through the centres
  • Same shell and same fitting kits as the standard Le Mans Reclining

Cobra Nogaro Circuit Burgundy Corduroy Edition

Looking down into the black cabin of a silver air cooled Porsche 911 over the top of the shut driver door, showing a Cobra Nogaro Circuit bucket seat trimmed all over in burgundy corduroy with harness slots cut through the shoulders
Burgundy cord against a black G body interior. The slots through the shoulders are what separates the Circuit from the Street.

Cobra trimmed the first of these for a customer who wanted something other than the usual Amalfi and Dinamica, and it came out well enough to offer properly. Every trimmed surface is the same fine wale burgundy cord: the outers, the shoulders, the bolsters and the cushion, with self coloured stitching so nothing interrupts it. There is no contrast panel anywhere on it.

Corduroy in a car is a very particular look and it is unmistakably of a period. It also behaves well, because a ribbed cloth grips you a little where smooth vinyl lets you slide, and it does not get uncomfortably hot in a way leather does on a bright day.

Circuit means the shoulders are cut for a harness, which is the one functional difference from the Pepita above. Slots for a 4 or 6 point belt, so if harnesses are the plan now or later, this is the shell to have. There is a separate guide to fitting a harness properly if that is new ground.

  • £1,055.00 inc VAT, part NOGC-GC-CORD-BURG
  • Fixed back bucket in fibreglass, 7.9kg, side mount only
  • 910mm tall, 560mm wide, 490mm across the base, 710mm deep
  • Burgundy fine wale corduroy over every trimmed surface, self coloured stitching
  • Harness slots cut for a 4 or 6 point belt
  • Heated pad and inflatable lumbar are both options, up to £1,343.00 inc VAT with both

The car: an air cooled 1980s Porsche 911. Burgundy cord against a black G body interior is a period correct combination and it is the sort of thing you see in a well kept 3.2 Carrera. It is also a car where the harness slots earn their place, because plenty of them see track days, and a 7.9kg shell against a heavy original seat is a real saving on a car of that age.

Cobra GT3 Historic Red Edition

Looking down into the black cabin of a white Ford Escort Mk2 over the top of the shut driver door, showing a Cobra GT3 Historic fixed back seat in red vinyl with red corduroy centre panels and a grid of punched eyelets in the backrest
Red cord and eyelets in a Mk2. Not a guess: Cobra trimmed the first set of these for an Escort, which is where the edition came from.

Smooth red vinyl over the surround, the bolsters and the headrest, red corduroy down the centre panels, and a neat grid of eyelets punched through the backrest centre. The eyelets are the point of this seat. They are what gives a GT3 Historic its old competition car look, and they work here because the centre panels are flat cord instead of padded fluting, so there is somewhere to put them. Anthracite as standard, silver if you prefer.

It is a fixed back on a steel frame with the headrest included, base mount on the usual Cobra 291mm by 330mm pattern, so it goes on the same subframes as the rest of the Cobra base mount range. At 8.7kg it is the heaviest bucket on this page, which is the cost of a steel frame and a headrest.

  • £615.00 inc VAT, part COB-GT3-RS-CORD-RED
  • Fixed back historic bucket, steel frame, headrest included, 8.7kg
  • Base mount, 291mm x 330mm
  • 725mm tall including the headrest, 490mm wide, 760mm deep
  • Red vinyl with red corduroy centres and punched eyelets, anthracite or silver
  • Drivers under 6ft with a 32 to 36 inch waist

The car: a Ford Escort Mk2. This is not a guess. Cobra trimmed a set of these for a Mk2 Escort and that is where the edition came from. A red cord seat with eyelets in a white Mk2 is about as period as a British rally interior gets, and the seat is base mount, so it goes onto a subframe made for the car without anything unusual.

Cobra Classic GT Heritage Edition

Cobra Classic GT Heritage Edition bucket seat in cognac tan with horizontal fluted centre panels across the backrest and cushion, a smooth surround and a separate headrest
The Heritage in Cognac Tan, one of five colours. The flutes run ACROSS the seat, not up it, and that is the detail that makes it read as a restored classic instead of a modern sports seat.

The cheapest of the five and the one that will suit the most people. Horizontal fluting across the centre panels of the backrest and the cushion, the surround and bolsters left smooth, matching piping round the outer edge and self coloured stitching throughout. It is the trim you see in a properly restored classic instead of a competition pattern.

Five colours: Black, Cognac Tan, Tangerine, Navy Blue and Beige, in soft grain vinyl as standard. Leather is available to order, so ask us for a price if that is what the car deserves. It is also the only one of the five with no restriction on the driver: all heights, all waist sizes, where three of the other four are cut for a particular build.

  • £465.00 inc VAT, part CGT-HERITAGE
  • Fixed back on a steel frame, headrest included
  • Base mount, 291mm x 330mm
  • Horizontal fluted centre panels, smooth surround, matching piping
  • Black, Cognac Tan, Tangerine, Navy Blue and Beige. Soft grain vinyl as standard, leather to order
  • Suits all heights and all waist sizes

The car: an MGB Roadster, in Cognac Tan. A fluted tan seat in an open British two seater is the combination this trim exists for, and the fact it comes in five colours means you can match it to whatever the car already has instead of working round black. Tangerine in the right car is worth looking at too, and there are not many seats you can say that about.

Prices include VAT and were correct on 20 September 2026. The two Nogaros are side mount and the other three are base mount, which is the single biggest practical difference on this page: it decides whether you are buying a subframe and side mounts or a subframe and runners. Tell us the car when you order and we will work that out with you.

What we would actually fit

If you want one of these and have not settled on a car yet, the Classic GT Heritage is the easy recommendation. It is the cheapest, it fits every driver, it comes in five colours and the fluted trim sits happily in almost any classic. Cognac Tan is the one we would pick.

If the car is a proper period competition build, the GT3 Historic Red, because the eyelets do something no other trim here does and it is a sensible price for a hand trimmed seat. If the car covers distance, the Le Mans Special Edition in Harris Tweed, which is the most comfortable seat on this page by a distance and the best cloth on it.

The two Nogaros are the enthusiast picks and they cost accordingly. Buy the Circuit if harnesses are anywhere in the plan and the Street if they are not, because that decision cannot be undone later: you cannot cut slots into a finished shell.

Cameron sorts out which of these suits a specific car, one conversation at a time, and all five are made to order so there is time to get it right before anything is cut. Ring Garreth, Cameron and the team on 0115 9893488, or look through the whole Cobra range on the site.

Common questions

The same seats. The shell, the frame, the bolt pattern, the dimensions and the harness compatibility are all exactly the standard product. Only the trim changes, so any subframe, side mount or runner that fits the standard version fits the edition.

Specialist cloth costs more than vinyl and takes longer to cut and sew, particularly where a check has to line up across a panel. That is the whole of the difference. It is the same uplift we apply to any bespoke trim.

These five are fixed specifications so we can list them at a price. Cobra do trim to order beyond this, which is where all five came from in the first place, so ring us and ask. It will be quoted rather than priced off the page.

Yes. The name is protected by the Harris Tweed Act, so it can only be used on cloth handwoven from pure virgin wool in the Outer Hebrides. Cobra are an official trimmer for it, which is what allows the seat to carry the name.

No. All five are sold seat only, which is normal for Cobra. The mounting is chosen against your car, and it matters which of these you pick because the two Nogaros are side mount and the other three are base mount.

Allow four to six weeks. They are hand trimmed to order in the UK, and none of them is a shelf product. If you have a date to hit, say so when you order and we will tell you honestly whether it is realistic.

Not on the strength of these. All five are Road and Track approved and none carries FIA 8855-1999. If you need a homologation label with an in-date expiry, ask us about the Imola, Suzuka or Sebring instead.
