In from a customer this week: a 2015 Honda Civic Type R, the FK2, and a pair of Sparco R100 recliners for it in black with the red edge trim, not the full red. He asked whether Sparco make a fitting kit for the car, and whether a Planted Technology bracket is the answer if they do not.
The seats are a good call and the colour is the right one for that cabin. The fitting kit is where the answer surprises people: it is neither of the two he named. Sparco list no frame for the FK2, and the Planted bracket sold as a ninth generation Civic part is cut for the American car. The part that fits is the genuine BRIDE MO sliding rail coded for the FK2, one per side, and the rest of this page is why, and what the pair costs.

I have a 2015 Civic Type R FK2 and want a pair of Sparco R100 seats in black with the red edge trim, not the full red. Do Sparco do a fitting kit for the car, or is it a Planted Technology bracket if they don’t?
The question, as it arrivedThe straight answer
The R100 goes in, and it goes in on the genuine BRIDE MO Super Seat Rail for the Civic Type R FK2. BRIDE code it to the chassis, H043MO for the driver side and H044MO for the passenger, and it bolts to the car’s original floor mounting points. It is a sliding rail in its own right, so the fore and aft adjustment is built in and there is no separate runner kit to add. One rail per side, seat on top, done.
The reason it takes a Sparco seat is on its top plate. The MO carries two bolt patterns, 271 by 345 and 330 by 290, and the first of those is Sparco’s base mount pattern, shared with OMP and Corbeau. The R100 is a base mount seat on exactly that pattern, so seat meets rail with no adaptor. Cameron’s note when he specs this car: it is the same rail answer as the Evo VI we wrote up last week, and for the same reason.

The R100 is the seat, the MO rail is the fitting kit, and the R333 beside them is the compact Sparco recliner that sits on the same rail if the budget stretches. The rail is per side, the seats are per seat, and the BRIDE range carries the FK2 rail in several types; the MO is the base mount one, and it is the only one of them with the 271 by 345 pattern.
Why not the Sparco frame or the Planted bracket
Sparco make excellent direct fit sub-frames, and we sell a shelf of them for Hondas, but the list stops at the EP3 generation. There is no Sparco frame for the FK2, so the usual Sparco seat, Sparco frame, Sparco runner stack we fit on a Fiesta or a Golf is not available on this car.
The Planted bracket is the trap. Planted list a ninth generation Civic bracket for 2012 to 2015, and on paper a 2015 Civic Type R is a ninth generation Civic. Honda sold quite different cars under that generation number in North America and Europe, and Planted cut for the American saloon and coupe. Our own listing for that bracket says so in plain words: the UK car of this period is the FK2 body, and it is a different bracket question. The bracket beside this text is the right part for a genuine American import and the wrong part for a UK FK2, which is why Garreth asks for the registration before any ninth generation Civic order leaves the building.

Black with the red edge, not full red
The R100 listing carries four cloth colourways: black, black and grey, black and blue, and black and red. The black and red is the one this customer described. It is a black cloth seat throughout, black centre panel, black bolster faces, black headrest, with a single red band running along the outer edge of each backrest bolster and each cushion bolster, finished with white contrast stitching. There is no red centre and no red headrest, which is what he meant by not the full red. In an FK2, whose cabin already runs red accents, it sits as if Honda had specified it.
One ordering note that saves a phone call. There is no pair listing for the black and red, so a pair is two singles from the R100 listing with the colour picked, £564.00 for the two. If the red is not important, the black only pair listing is £540.00, and the Martini Racing edition is the same shell in its own stripe if the car wants something louder.
Why the R100 suits an FK2
The R100 is the slim recliner Garreth reaches for when a cabin has a tall tunnel and a door card close to the seat, and the FK2 is that cabin. It is a tubular steel shell, honest at 13kg, in cloth, with an integrated headrest, two harness slots high in the backrest, and a single lever recline that still feels right after years of use. Our listing sizes it for all waists and for drivers over and under six foot, and the narrower frame is exactly why it fits a cockpit where a wider recliner would meet the console.
The FK2 came with heavily bolstered factory seats, and they are worth a thought before they come out. Where the R100 earns its place is a fresh seat with a mechanism that works, harness slots for a track day belt, and the recline the factory seat lost if it has done a hard ten years. Keep the originals complete with their runners until the new seats are in and you are happy; FK2 seats sell.
The honest word on seat height
Two fitting notes for the day itself. The rail uses the original floor points, so there is no drilling on a standard floor. Common questions
Is the 2015 Type R definitely an FK2?
The UK Civic Type R sold new from 2015 to 2017 is the FK2, the turbocharged K20C car. The BRIDE rail is coded to that chassis and its listing names it. Send the registration when you order and Cameron checks it against the application table while you are on the phone.
Do I need sliding runners as well as the rail?
No. The BRIDE MO is a sliding seat rail, so the fore and aft adjustment is built into it. Seat bolts to rail, rail bolts to floor, and that is the stack. The Sparco runner kit is for cars where the Sparco sub-frame is the fitting kit.
What if I really want the Planted bracket?
Only if the car is a genuine North American import of this generation. For a UK FK2 it is the wrong floor, and the listing says so. Ring us with the registration and we will tell you in a minute which car you have.
Which of the BRIDE FK2 rails do I order?
The MO. BRIDE list several rail types for the FK2 and only the MO carries the 271 by 345 base mount pattern the R100 uses. The FO, FX and XL are side mount rails for bucket seats, and the RO and XR carry a different base pattern.
Can I fit a harness to the R100 later?
The seat has harness slots and our listing marks it four point compatible for road and track day use. The anchoring rules are the same as for any seat and are drawn out in our harness fitting guide; keep the standard belt fitted either way.
