Customer Question: Will Auto Style GT Tartan Seats Fit A Volkswagen Polo Mk6?
Customer question, Volkswagen Polo Mk6
A question in this week: will the Auto Style GT red tartan seats fit a Volkswagen Polo Mk6? It is a fair thing to ask, because they look right for the car and the price is sensible for a pair.
The honest answer is not as a bolt-in job. There is a fitting frame for the Polo Mk6, and it is a good one, but the seat and the frame use completely different bolt patterns. Here are both numbers so you can see the size of the problem, and then what we would actually do.
- There IS a direct fit frame for the Polo Mk6: the Cobra subframe at £212.50
- It carries the 291mm x 330mm Cobra pattern, which every Cobra reclining seat also uses
- The Auto Style GT tartan seat is 405mm x 280mm, so it does not line up with that frame
- The gap is 114mm across the car and 50mm fore and aft, which is a different pattern and not a near miss
- Our recommendation is a Cobra seat on the Cobra frame, so the two ends match with nothing modified

What is on this page
The short answer
Not as a bolt-in. You would be modifying something to make it work, and on the part that holds you in the car we would rather point you somewhere better than sell you a job.
The confusion is understandable, because there is nothing wrong with either part on its own. The frame fits the car properly. The seat is a good seat. They simply do not share a bolt pattern, and a seat frame is not the place to improvise.
The two numbers that decide it
Every base mount seat bolts down through four holes, and those holes sit where the maker put them. Here are the two sets side by side, drawn to the same scale.
This is the whole answer in one picture. Lay one over the other and nothing lines up, which is why this is a fabrication job and not a bolt-in.
A few millimetres out is a slot and a washer. This is 114mm out across the car. There is no version of this where the holes can be persuaded to meet, which is why the only routes are to redrill a frame or to have one made, and both put the responsibility for a safety critical part onto whoever did the work. If you want the background on why patterns differ at all, our seat bolt patterns guide maps every brand we sell.
What your options actually are
Adapt a Cobra frame
Take the Cobra Polo Mk6 subframe as a base and redrill it to the Auto Style pattern. It is the least work of the modification routes because the car end is already correct, but it is still your fabrication and your responsibility.
Have one fabricated
A one off frame made to suit both the Polo floor and the Auto Style seat. Proper engineering, priced accordingly, and worth it only if those seats are the whole point of the build.
Change the seat, not the frame
Buy a seat that already matches the frame. No modification, no fabrication, and everything carries its own approval as sold. This is the one we recommend.
What we would fit instead
Stick with Cobra at both ends and the problem disappears. The Cobra Polo Mk6 subframe carries 291mm x 330mm, and so does every reclining seat in the Cobra range, so the seat bolts to the frame as it comes and the frame bolts to the car’s own floor points. Nothing is cut, nothing is drilled, and both parts are still the products their makers approved.
You do not lose the look either. If tartan is what you are after, Cobra trim their seats to order and tartan is one of the options, so you can have the same idea done properly. Tell us the shade you had in mind and we will price it.

Those are examples: the frame, then three of the Cobra recliners that bolt straight to it. The full picture for this car, including the fixed back options, is in our Volkswagen Polo Mk6 seat guide.
| Part | Bolt pattern | Fits the Cobra Polo Mk6 frame |
|---|---|---|
| Cobra Daytona reclining | 291 x 330 | Yes, as it comes |
| Cobra Le Mans reclining | 291 x 330 | Yes, as it comes |
| Cobra Stuttgart reclining | 291 x 330 | Yes, as it comes |
| Cobra Misano Anniversary | 291 x 330 | Yes, as it comes |
| Auto Style GT tartan | 405 x 280 | No, modification required |
Every Cobra recliner shares one pattern, which is what makes the Cobra frame and Cobra seat combination so straightforward on this car. The Auto Style seat is the odd one out here, not a bad seat.
Common questions
So the Auto Style seats will never go in a Polo Mk6?
They will, but only with a modified or fabricated frame. There is no bolt-in route we sell. If you already own the seats, ring us and we will talk through what adapting a Cobra frame would involve before you commit to it.
Is there really a direct fit frame for the Mk6?
Yes, the Cobra subframe for the 2018 to 2021 car at £212.50. It bolts to the factory floor points. The question was never whether a frame exists, it is which seats that frame will take.
Could you not just slot the holes out?
Not over 114mm. Slotting is for a few millimetres of tolerance, not for bridging two different patterns, and a slot that long stops being a fixing hole.
Can I get a Cobra seat in tartan?
Yes. Cobra trim to order and tartan is among the options, so you can have the look you wanted on a seat that bolts straight to the frame. Tell us the colour and we will price the combination.
What about a different Auto Style seat?
The pattern is the thing to check, not the brand. Send us the model you are looking at and we will read its bolt pattern off our own data before you order anything.
Does the frame fit the later Polo?
The listing covers 2018 to 2021. If your car is newer, send us the registration and we will confirm what suits it instead of guessing from the model year.
If you have already bought the tartan seats, ring 0115 9893488 and Cameron will go through the adapting route honestly, including what it does and does not leave you with. If you have not bought yet, tell us the look you are after and Garreth will spec a Cobra pairing that gets you there without a single hole being drilled.
