Real Race inserts and fire safety
A moulded insert can transform driver fit. Fire wording needs more care. A fire-retardant cover does not prove that every layer of the finished insert is FIA approved, and Technical List 50 names specific materials rather than a general type of seat kit.
Use the insert to solve a real driver-fit problem. Before mixing it, have the correct vacuum equipment, confirm the exact kit contents, check belt and extraction routes and read the rules for your event. If a fire or material standard is mandatory, obtain evidence for the exact insert material.
The old version inferred ISO 3795 performance, self-extinguishing behaviour and blanket FIA compliance without a test report for this product. It also used a different manufacturer’s foam as supporting evidence. Those claims have been removed.
A bead-and-resin insert is moulded around one driver
The liner holds the loose beads while slow-cure resin binds the shape.
Prepare the shell and driver
Set the pedals, wheel, helmet, FHR and harness environment before introducing the liner.
Distribute the beads
Move material into the pelvis, sides, back and shoulders without creating hard ridges or blocking belt routes.
Confirm the driving position
Check eyeline, steering reach, leg support, head clearance and a realistic route out of the car.
Mix and apply the resin
Follow the exact kit instructions. The slow cure provides working time, but it is still a one-use chemical process.
Hold the shape under vacuum
The vacuum pump and hose connect to the liner valve and maintain the chosen form during curing.
The result is not a homologated seat on its own. It is an insert working inside a supporting shell or cockpit structure. The shell, insert, mount, restraints and driver position still need to be considered together.
We ask where the driver is moving before choosing the kit. Sometimes the answer is a full insert. Sometimes the production seat fits properly and a small lumbar pad is all that is missing.

Our current 50-litre product documentation describes a fire-retardant, antibacterial brushed-nylon covering and spray adhesive among the kit contents. That is useful product information. It is not a published test certificate for the cured bead/resin core or the whole completed insert.
A proper answer names the material, test method, result, issue date and the assembly covered. Phrases such as "FIA compliant materials" are too loose where a regulation requires a named or tested material.
Technical List 50 does not name Real Race poly-bead resin
The current published list contains four named foam materials.

Read the current FIA Technical List 50 rather than relying on an article summary. The list says machined foam inserts use one of its listed foams. It also allows for a cast insert to be authorised where it keeps the same mechanical properties, with responsibility placed on the manufacturer.
That wording does not let a retailer declare a different bead-and-resin kit approved. If a category requires List 50 material, ask the kit maker and organiser for the evidence that applies to the exact product. The rule may be much less restrictive in another category, which is why the event comes first.
The old page discussed BSCI Ener-Core EC50 and then treated its behaviour as evidence for Real Race. They are different products and constructions. The BSCI entry proves only what the FIA list says about that named BSCI material.
Choose litres from the void you need to fill
Litres describe the amount of material, not a guaranteed car or driver application.
The current Real Race range runs through 15, 30, 40, 50, 70 and 90-litre kits. A partial insert around the pelvis needs less material than a full cockpit insert reaching the shoulders. A narrow tub can also need less volume than an apparently similar driver in a wide shell.

Extra material still has to go somewhere. Too much bead can raise or move the driver and make it harder to achieve an even mould. Send photographs and rough gap measurements if you are between sizes.
Have every tool and safety check ready before mixing
A rushed fitting is difficult to undo.
01Vacuum equipment
The pump and hose are separate from the insert kit in our current documentation. Confirm the connection and operation first.
02Kit contents
Open and identify the liner, resin pack, valve, instructions and finishing materials for the exact kit supplied.
03Driver equipment
Use the normal shoes, helmet and FHR. Set steering, pedals and restraints before settling the driver into the liner.
Protect the car
Follow the instructions and isolate surfaces that must not contact resin or adhesive. Provide ventilation and use the stated personal protection.
Run the vacuum first
Confirm the pump, hose and valve work before any curing chemistry is started.
Use enough helpers
One person supports the driver and checks position while another manages the material and vacuum.
Keep belt routes open
Do not bury harness slots, pull webbing over a hard edge or create an insert that traps the belts.
Check extraction
The finished shape must not make normal exit or emergency driver removal unworkable.
This guide is not a replacement for the resin safety sheet, mixing ratios, working time or curing conditions. If those documents are missing, stop and obtain them before opening the chemical pack.
Fire resistance and competition eligibility are rule-specific
Start with the current discipline and class rather than the most demanding rule found online.
Some FIA categories explicitly require a seat insert made from a Technical List 50 material. That does not turn List 50 into a blanket rule for every UK club car. Equally, a kit being used in motorsport does not override a category that names a material or test.
Check the current Motorsport UK NCR, championship regulations and event documents. Where the wording is unclear, send the organiser the product data before the insert is made. Keep the answer and the kit paperwork with the car records.

Are Real Race poly-bead inserts FIA approved?▾
We have not found the Real Race bead/resin material named on FIA Technical List 50. Do not describe the complete insert as FIA approved without a rule and product document that identify the exact material and acceptance route.
Does a fire-retardant cover make the whole insert fire retardant?▾
No. A cover description applies to that component. The liner, beads, cured resin, adhesive and any repair materials are separate parts unless a test document covers the complete finished assembly.
What materials are on FIA Technical List 50?▾
The published list names Ener-Core EC50, Zotefoam HD60, Neopolene RG60 and ARPRO RG60. It also explains that cast inserts may be authorised only where they retain the same mechanical properties, which is the manufacturer’s responsibility.
Can I use a Real Race insert in club motorsport?▾
Possibly, but check the current discipline, championship and event rules. Many events do not require Technical List 50 material. Where a specific material, test or approval is required, obtain written evidence before making the insert.
What comes in a Real Race insert kit?▾
Current product documentation lists the bead liner, resin and hardener mixing pack, pigment, instructions and finishing materials on the products we checked. A vacuum pump and hose are still required separately. Confirm the contents of the exact litre kit before starting.
Can I make the insert without a vacuum pump?▾
Not by the published Real Race process. The vacuum through the liner valve holds the beads in the chosen shape while the resin cures. Arrange the correct pump and hose before mixing.
Which litre size should I choose?▾
The litre figure is material volume, not driver size. Estimate the void between the driver and the supporting shell, how far the insert must extend and the cockpit room. Ask before ordering if the application is unfamiliar.
Can a moulded insert repair a seat that is too large?▾
It can locate a smaller driver in a suitable supporting shell, but it cannot repair a cracked seat, create missing side protection or make an ineligible seat homologated. The shell and installation still have to suit the rules.
Should I trim or drill the cured insert?▾
Follow the kit instructions and preserve the required support, belt routes and extraction plan. Do not expose loose material beside the driver or cover harness slots. Ask the manufacturer before making a change that could affect a claimed fire or impact property.
